Rajasthan: CBN seizes 150 grams of illegal Mephadrone near Jaipur railway station

Jaipur: The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Jaipur Cell, have seized 150 grams of illegal MD (Mephadrone) and arrested one person near Station Road, Jaipur Railway Station.
Based on specific intelligence regarding the smuggling of illegal MD for distribution in the area, a dedicated team from CBN Jaipur was dispatched on May 27, 2025.
The team intercepted the suspect on Station Road near Jaipur Railway Station. Upon conducting a thorough search of his belongings and personal effects, officers discovered 150 grams of Mephadrone (MD) concealed in two polythene packets hidden beneath the insoles of his sports shoes.
After completing all necessary legal procedures, the seized substance was taken into custody under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the individual was arrested.
Further investigation is currently underway.
This successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Naresh Bundel, Deputy Narcotics Commissioner, Kota (Rajasthan), as part of CBN's intensified crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in Rajasthan.
He informed that the Central Bureau of Narcotics received special information that a person was smuggling illegal MD for supply on Station Road near Jaipur Railway Station.
"A team of officials of CBN, Jaipur, was constituted for this proceeding and on May 27, 2025, the team was dispatched to nab the person. The team stopped the suspect on Station Road near Jaipur Railway Station and searched his belongings and personal. During the search, an illegal MD weighing 150 grams was found hidden in two polythene bags under the insoles of his sports shoes, he said.
Naresh added that after completing legal formalities, the recovered illegal MD. (Mephadrone) was seized under the relevant provisions, and the person was arrested.
He informed that the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) would continue similar stringent action against the trafficking of illegal narcotics to curb the illegal trade of intoxicating substances in the state.
Meanwhile, officials said that the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue strict actions against narcotics trafficking to curb the illegal drug trade across the state.
"If you have any information regarding the trafficking of drugs or alcohol, you are encouraged to report it. The identity of the informant will be kept strictly confidential,' they said.

A Scheduled Caste man was assaulted and his thatched hut was vandalised in an act of alleged caste-based violence at Mela Manganallur in Mayiladuthurai district. He was injured and admitted to a nearby hospital. The incident triggered blockade of the Mayiladuthurai-Kuthalam Road. CPI(M) district secretary P. Srinivasan and Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front district secretary C. Meganathan led the protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the assailants. Superintendent of Police G. Stalin visited the area and ordered an inquiry. The police later arrested A. Arivu, 50; M. Sivakumar, 49; R. Natarajan, 55 (all from Mela Manganallur); and K. Keerthivasan, 52, of Arivoli Mangalam. They were booked under six provisions of the BNS for assault and criminal intimidation and three Sections of the the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for house trespass, casteist abuse, and destruction of property. They were remanded in judicial custody, the police said.

Mumbai: Police have arrested two collegians, who are in their 20s, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after one of them showed explicit photographs of an underage girl to the other in class. Police said the prime accused is a small-time model and the 17-year-old girl was acquainted with him. According to the police, the girl used to chat often with the prime accused over the phone and had sent him some private photographs of herself. He showed these to his friend in class. When the girl later learnt about it, she lodged a police complaint.

NGT takes suo motu cognisance of environmental degradation of Nagpur's Futala Lake

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report highlighting the declining condition of Futala Lake in Maharashtra's Nagpur. A bench, headed by judicial member Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi, registered an original application suo motu (on its own) following a news item titled "Futala Lake's charm fades amid neglect and poor maintenance". Referring to the news article, the Bench, also comprising expert member A. Senthil Vel, noted that the lake, once a popular spot for locals, now faces hygiene issues and environmental degradation due to neglect and poor maintenance. The news item also highlighted that the absence of functional public toilets has led visitors to resort to unhygienic alternatives, and the lake's shore is covered with trash like flower garlands and plastic bags, causing a foul smell. "[D]espite efforts by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to prevent the immersion of idols and religious offerings, enforcement remains weak, resulting in continued pollution,' noted the NGT in its order passed on June 5. The green body said the matter highlighted in the news item attracted the provisions of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and the Municipal Solid Waste Rules, 2016. Saying that the power of the NGT to take up the matter suo motu has been recognised by the Supreme Court, the Justice Tyagi-led Bench impleaded the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation as respondent parties to the matter. "Let notices be issued to the respondents for filing their response/reply by way of affidavit," ordered the green tribunal, transferring the matter for further hearing on August 6 before the Western Zone Bench. It said that since the place of accrual of the cause of action lies within the jurisdiction of the Pune's Western Zone Bench, the case should be further heard there. "Accordingly, the Registry is directed to list the matter before the Western Zone Bench of this Tribunal at Pune on 06.08.2025 after obtaining orders from Hon'ble the Chairperson for transfer of the case, if so required," the NGT ordered. It added that responses may be filed by the authorities before the Western Zone Bench of the green tribunal at least one week before the next date of hearing.
