Three-time WNBA champion joins HBCU program
Prairie View A&M has made a major splash in the HBCU coaching landscape by hiring WNBA legend and Texas Tech Hall of Famer Plenette Pierson. She has joined the women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. The former WNBA champion brings over two decades of elite basketball experience to Prairie View A&M for the 2024-25 season.
Pierson joins the Lady Panthers after serving as associate head coach at Texas Tech, her alma mater, where she was instrumental in the team's resurgence. During her tenure, the Lady Raiders posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade and reached the quarterfinals of both the Big 12 Tournament and the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).
Known for her ability to develop post players and lead recruiting efforts, Pierson helped guide Texas Tech to key wins over top-tier programs including Virginia Tech, Arkansas, and Iowa State. Her influence helped produce All-Big 12 standouts and one of the nation's top transfer classes.
A former No. 4 overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft, Pierson is a three-time WNBA champion and former Sixth Woman of the Year. Her move to Prairie View A&M marks a powerful new chapter for HBCU women's basketball.
Pierson was hired by new PVAMU head coach Tia Dillard, a former standout at Texas and WNBA veteran. Dillard comes over from the University of Houston, where she helped guide the Cougars to multiple postseason runs. Known for mentoring sharpshooter Laila Blair and excelling in recruitment, Dillard's leadership is already reshaping Prairie View's HBCU basketball identity. Her decision to hire Pierson blends pro-level pedigree with high-level collegiate coaching insight.

Clark's average distance for made 3-pointers on Saturday was 28.7 feet. She made three 3-pointers from at least 30 feet. While those numbers are impressive, it's Clark's shooting percentage when launching 3-pointers from beyond 30 feet this season that's astonishing. This is higher than her 3-point % (36.7) and higher than her overall field goal percentage (43.9%). WNBA fans took to social media to react to this spectacular statistic. One commenter said, "Makes me think of that interview she did when she was in college where she said it's easier for her when she's further away from the hoop." In her second season in the WNBA, at just 23 years of age, Clark continues to climb leaderboards and record books with her stellar play. Thursday night's game between the Indiana Fever and Golden State Valkyries was Game No. 47 of Clark's WNBA career. Clark is already No. 2 all-time for 3-pointers made in a season (122 in 2024). She also led the league in 3-pointers made per game in 2024 (3.0). Clark continues to set a new standard for 3-point shooting in the WNBA, but even the greatest shooters of all-time have off nights. The reported attendance inside Chase Center was 18,064, and Clark's pregame routine and interactions caused quite a stir for Fever and Valkyries fans alike. Clark will look to start a new streak of games with a made 3-pointer in the Fever's next game. They'll take on the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
