GRS ready for Sabah polls, says Hajiji — but seat talks still pending
TUARAN, June 7 — Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is fully prepared to face the 17th state election, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji, who is also the Chief Minister, said GRS has conducted a series of training sessions across constituencies and state assembly areas to strengthen the coalition's election machinery ahead of the polls.
'Clearly, GRS is ready. We have established our election machinery and conducted several rounds of training in preparation.
'However, discussions on seat allocations have yet to take place,' he told reporters after officiating the Aidiladha sacrificial ritual at the Tuaran District Police Headquarters today.
Also present were Sabah Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Jahid Jahim; Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai; and Tuaran Police Chief, Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin.
The Sabah Legislative Assembly will automatically dissolve on Nov 11, ending the five-year term that began with its official opening by Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Nov 12, 2020, paving the way for the 17th state election.
Commenting on the cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming election, Hajiji said GRS remains open to discussions with the party's leaders.
'The last time I met the BN chairman (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) was before the fasting month. While political matters were discussed, there have been no further talks on collaboration or related issues since then.
'There is no issue with meeting; I have great respect for all friends, especially the BN chairman, and we are very open on this matter,' he said.
However, he said any party-related matters, including the 17th state election and potential cooperation with other parties, must first be discussed with the GRS Supreme Council before any decisions are made. — Bernama

RANAU: The people of Sabah must give full support to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government because only local leadership understands the real needs of the state as well as the people here. Sabah Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Deputy President and Karanaan PGRS Division Head Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, as the state election looming, a new mandate must be given to the coalition in order to keep the prosperity going. Masidi highlighted the GRS government's achievements over the past 3 years despite various challenges. He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2020, movement restrictions significantly impacted operations, but the government still managed to function effectively for nearly 4 years. He emphasized that the GRS government's achievements in 2 to 3 years were among the best in Sabah's history. Key accomplishments included increased government revenue, record-breaking public savings, and nearly triple the reserves compared to previous administrations. In regards to the road problem, he said that such problems have also existed during the previous administrations, but today more road network and upgrading has been done, despite not being noticed by the oppositions. Concerning water issues, he explained that previous administration's decisions to terminate water management contracts led to current problems and legal claims totalling around RM300 million in compensation. He announced new developments, including a water treatment plant in Ranau from the Nakamura River that will provide consistent water supply regardless of weather conditions. Towards that end, Masidi emphasized the importance of political stability and professional governance for continued progress. The conference concluded with a call for unity within the party and focus on selecting capable candidates for upcoming elections. He stressed that elections are not beauty contests but rather about choosing hardworking individuals who can drive progress. Sarawak state assembly to hold special one-day sitting on July 7; Premier to table undisclosed item
KUCHING, June 21 — A special one-day sitting of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has been scheduled for July 7, according to a letter sighted by The Borneo Post. The letter, signed by DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, has been circulated to all assembly members. However, it does not disclose the agenda of the sitting, which is set to begin at 9am.
