MAG reinforces Langkawi's role as key tourism gateway
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) continues to champion Langkawi's role as a vital tourism gateway and catalyst for regional growth.

Langkawi, one of Malaysia Airlines' earliest and most iconic leisure destinations, remains central to the airline's network. With 56 weekly flights linking the island to major cities across Malaysia and beyond, MAG continues to champion Langkawi's strategic role in tourism and economic development.
In line with this commitment, Malaysia Airlines recently partnered with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the Langkawi Development Authority to host the second edition of its flagship Trade Elevation Summit (TES). Building on the success of last year's inaugural event in Kuala Lumpur, TES 2025 welcomed more than 300 delegates, including airline representatives, trade partners, and stakeholders from 68 global cities, creating a high-impact platform for collaboration and strategic dialogue.
"Hosting the Trade Elevation Summit here reflects our long-standing commitment to uplifting Malaysia's key tourism hubs and aligning our efforts with national goals," Dersenish added.
"Through initiatives like the Bonus Side Trip and ongoing investments in connectivity, product innovation, digital platforms, and customer experience, we are strengthening our foundations and positioning Malaysia Airlines as the top-of-mind carrier in the region."
He added that the summit marks an important milestone in the airline's journey towards Visit Malaysia Year 2026, where Malaysia Airlines will continue playing a leading role in promoting the country as a world-class travel destination.

24 Evacuated From Iran Arrive Safely In Malaysia
SEPANG, June 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 24 individuals, including 17 Malaysians, who were evacuated from Iran following escalating conflict in the country, have safely returned home. Malaysia Airlines flight MH781 carrying the evacuees landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 11.03 pm. They were welcomed by the Foreign Ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Affairs), Datuk Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani. The group comprised 17 Malaysians, six Iranian dependents of Malaysian citizens, and one Singaporean national. Malaysia's Ambassador to Iran, Khairi Omar, who led the group, told the media they had to travel by land for about 1,000 kilometres to exit Tehran. 'We chose a route away from the source of the attacks, which were coming from the west, so we headed east. Alhamdulillah, we received strong cooperation from the Turkmenistan government, which allowed foreign nationals to cross the border,' he said. He added that around 12 Malaysians were still in Iran and Wisma Putra was closely monitoring their situation to ensure their safety and well-being. According to a statement from Wisma Putra, all 24 individuals crossed the Iran–Turkmenistan border on June 21, 2025, and boarded a Turkmenistan Airlines flight T5 647 on June 22, 2025, to Bangkok, Thailand, before continuing their journey on Malaysia Airlines flight MH781 to Kuala Lumpur. The evacuation, coordinated by the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran, involved a 1,120-kilometre land journey to the Iran-Turkmenistan border. The Malaysian embassies in Ashgabat and Bangkok also facilitated flight arrangements from Ashgabat to Malaysia.

Perak records highest domestic tourist numbers last year
IPOH: Perak attracted the highest number of domestic tourists in the country last year, recording 10.2 million visitors, surpassing all other states. State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the figure was based on the Domestic Tourism Survey 2024 published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on June 19. He said the number marked a 36.1 per cent increase from the 7.5 million visitors recorded in 2023. "Perak registered the highest domestic tourist arrivals at 10.2 million, followed by Selangor with 9.6 million and Pahang with 9.5 million. "Congratulations to all stakeholders—government agencies, local authorities, district offices, NGOs, traders, and the public, for their efforts in making Perak a leading tourism destination," he said in a statement. According to the report, popular destinations in Perak included Teluk Batik, Lumut Waterfront, Ipoh Night Market, Gunung Lang Recreational Park, and Pangkor Island. The districts with the highest tourist presence were Kinta, Larut and Matang, Manjung, Kuala Kangsar, and Batang Padang. Loh said the increase was also attributed to the success of last year's Visit Perak Year campaign, which saw strong collaboration between the state and federal governments. "We must keep up this momentum. Last year, only four states, including Melaka, launched state-level tourism campaigns.
