Grand preps underway for 12-day Saraswati Pushkaralu: Ministers

Hyderabad: Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Tuesday asked the officials to provide a safe, hygienic, and spiritually enriching experience to the devotees attending Saraswati Pushkaralu, which will be starting from May 15.
The Endowments Minister along with IT Minister D Sridhar Babu reviewed the arrangements for the Pushkaralu. Surekha said that the government was making large-scale preparations to ensure smooth and grand celebrations for the upcoming Saraswati Pushkaralu at Triveni Sangamam near Kaleshwaram.
With lakhs of devotees expected to visit the sacred site, both the ministers issued strict instructions to the Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Administration to complete all necessary arrangements well in advance. Senior officials including Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, Endowment principal secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar and R&B, Transport Principal Secretary Vikas Raj were overseeing coordination efforts across departments.
The Minister said that drawing inspiration from the successful conduct of other major religious gatherings such as Sammakka–Sarakka Jatara, Komuravelli Jatara, and Bhadrachalam festivities, the government is committed to elevating the Saraswati Pushkaralu to the same level of reverence and organization. Daily rituals will begin with ceremonial baths conducted by respected religious leaders. The official inauguration on May 15 and 16 will be led by Sri Guru Madanananda Saraswati of Rangampet and Sri Madhavananda Saraswati of Medak, symbolising the deep spiritual roots of the event.
Konda Surekha emphasised, 'No devotee should face any difficulty. All arrangements will be of the highest standard, reflecting our respect for cultural traditions and public welfare. The Congress government's all-round efforts aim to make the Saraswati Pushkaralu not just a religious celebration but a memorable and seamless experience for every pilgrim.'
Event Timeline
The 12-day Pushkaralu festival will begin on May 14 at 10:35 pm, coinciding with Jupiter's entry into 'Mithuna Rashi', marking a rare and auspicious period for holy dips in the Saraswati tributary of the Godavari River.
Bathing ghats are being expanded and new ones added. Permanent toilets, drinking water stations, and waste management systems are being set up. Additional TSRTC buses will be deployed under the free travel scheme to ease pilgrim movement.
Special attention is being given to crowd control and emergency readiness. First-aid centers, on-site medical teams, and special care zones for children, pregnant women, and senior citizens are being arranged to avoid inconvenience. A dedicated Pushkaralu portal and mobile app, launched by the Ministers, will provide pilgrims with live updates, maps of ghats, emergency contact details, and other important information. A toll-free helpline is also operational for public assistance.

Temple tourism in state will get a shot in the arm: Surekha

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to place a significant focus on temple tourism across the state. Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Friday instructed departmental officials to prioritise this area and to develop concrete proposals. The Minister affirmed the state government's commitment to the initiative, announcing that this year, the Ashadha Masam Bonalu Jatara at the Bhadrakali Temple in Warangal would be organised in a truly grand manner. She expressed her desire to bring every festival and cultural tradition of the state closer to the people, stating that her government would make every effort to guide the populace towards a devotional path. Minister Surekha directed officials to ensure transparent utilisation of Common Good Fund (CGF) monies for the comprehensive development of temples. The Endowment Department CGF Committee meeting took place at the Secretariat on Friday, where Minister Surekha conducted a review of the funds earmarked for the development of smaller temples across the state. The Minister opined that the dedication of Executive Officers (EOs) and senior departmental officials was crucial for temple development. As part of the CGF discussions, officials presented information to the Minister regarding the funds allocated for the development of minor temples. The Minister directed officials to proceed with a plan to enhance facilities for devotees in temples across the state and to increase the income streams of these religious institutions. She called for more extensive work on developing temple tourism circuits. The government, she revealed, plans to combine three major temples within a district into a single circuit, with this process to be implemented in three phases. The aim is to transport devotees and tourists to famous temples, while also allowing them to visit other tourist spots along the designated routes.

Lokesh reviews arrangements for ‘International Yoga Day' in Vizag

IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday held a review meeting to discuss the ongoing arrangements for the 'International Yoga Day' event scheduled to be held on June 21. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other state Ministers are set to attend the event. Mr Lokesh highlighted that Vizag has got a great opportunity to host such a prestigious event. On June 21, the entire world will be watching the coastal city. He urged the authorities to make foolproof arrangements, as five lakh people are expected to participate. He instructed officials to ensure that no inconveniences are caused to the attendees. The review meeting took place at AU Sagarika Convention with officials from various departments, the District Collector, and police officials in attendance. Mr. Lokesh said that the programme will be held along the 26-km stretch from RK Beach to Bheemunipatnam. Participants will be arranged in 247 compartments. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at the main venue near Kali Mata temple at RK Beach at 6.30 a.m. on the day of the event. Transport arrangements Mr. Lokesh emphasised that all participants should be transported to their respective compartments an hour before the arrival of the Prime Minister. He stressed on the importance of monitoring the transport arrangements; the Minister directed officials to minimise walking distances and said that no individual should be made to walk more than 600 metres. He added that vehicles should be allowed to drop attendees closer to the designated compartments. Mr. Lokesh said that the administration must take full responsibility for the attendees from the moment they leave their homes until they return. He said that June 19, 20, and 21 are crucial days for planning and coordination and urged officials to coordinate and work together to make the event successful. As many as 3,500 RTC buses and about 8,000 private buses have been arranged for participants coming from Visakhapatnam and surrounding districts. Secretariat staff have been assigned the responsibility of safely transporting people to and from the venue. Special Chief Secretary and State Nodal Officer for the International Yoga Day, M.T. Krishna Babu, said that a gazetted officer will be appointed to each compartment to oversee the arrangements and ensure there is no inconvenience to attendees. He said that all participants have pre-registered and will be allowed into their designated compartments by scanning their QR codes. Mr. Krishna Babu further said that arrangements are being made to allow entry as early as 2 a.m. to participants coming from distant areas. A command and control room has been set up to streamline vehicle movement, and 1,200 CCTV cameras have been installed for surveillance. 'To coordinate the event, responsibilities have been assigned to 2,000 yoga instructors, who will assemble at the AU Grounds the night before. As a precautionary measure, 116 ambulances will be on standby. Mats and t-shirts will be distributed at each compartment. Around 1,400 bio-toilets will also be set up for the participants,' he said. Union Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, District In-charge Minister Dola Balaveeranjaneya Swamy, and Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Anagani Satya Prasad, Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Collector Harendhira Prasad and public representatives attended the meeting.

Over 23 lakh took holy dip during Saraswati Pushkaralu

Hyderabad: Over 23 lakh people had a sacred bath during the Saraswati Pushkaralu, which ended on Monday at Kaleshwaram in Bhupalpally disrtict. More than one lakh people had a bath at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram on each of the 12 days with pilgrim rush peaking during the weekends. Endowment department officials and others heaved a sigh of relief as the event passed off without any untoward incident. The state government had put in place massive arrangements to ensure the success of the Pushkaralu. To bring it on par with the Kumbh Mela, the government allocated Rs 35 crore exclusively for the event. Incidentally, a team of officials, led by Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, had visited Prayagraj for a first-hand feel of the arrangements. This helped the state administration to come up with a meticulous planning, said a senior official from the endowments department. The official said that Pushkaralu started on a grand note with around one lakh taking a bath on the first day on May 15. The rush of pilgrims increased thereafter with the weekends drawing two to 3.5 lakh people. There was a traffic jam of over 20 km on the weekends. The official said that the Harati program on the banks of the river was a major attraction during the Pushkaralu. Artists from Kashi were specifically roped in for the Harati program, which was watched by around 47,000, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Meanwhile, the pilgrims also visited the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple. Approximately, 2.68 lakh laddus were distributed by the temple authorities, who also arranged for medical camps, which was taken advantage of by around 80, 000 people. The official informed that among the other works, sanitation and hygiene were given priority. Over 950 sanitation workers were deployed for cleaning the premises near the river, while about 33 NDRF and 66 SDRF personnel, 100 swimmers and 35 Singareni rescue team personnel were also deployed at the bathing ghats to prevent instances of drowning. Also manning the area were around 1600 police personnel.
