Report: Former BYU star Egor Demin drawing interest from Nets ahead of 2025 NBA draft

USA Today14 hours ago

Former BYU point guard Egor Demin is reportedly drawing interest from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line on Substack.
Demin was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, averaging 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals on 41.2% shooting from the field in 33 games. He finished in double figures 19 times, including a season-high 20 points, seven assists and rebounds on Nov. 8.
The 6-foot-9 Russian is high on several teams' draft boards and has worked out in front of executives drafting in the 5-15 range, including the Nets, who are on the clock with the ninth pick.
We've heard consistent buzz that he is drawing particular interest from Brooklyn. Many front offices appear intrigued by the talent that complements Demin's lengthy frame. It is no stretch to say that he is the highest-rated NBA Draft prospect with Real Madrid in his background since a certain Luka Dončić.
Demin became the first five-star recruit to commit to BYU after playing for the Real Madrid youth team over the previous two seasons. He dazzled as a playmaker, ranking third in the conference in assists after setting the freshman program record (180).
The 19-year-old is considered a potential lottery pick, drawing intrigue from teams for his size, ballhandling and scoring ability. He has also conducted workouts with Utah (No. 5), Washington (No. 6), New Orleans (No. 7) and Toronto (No. 9), among others.
Demin has a relatively wide draft range and could land with several different teams. He projects to have a bright future ahead and should help his next squad for several years.

Pachuca ace reveals praise from Florentino Perez ahead of Real Madrid clash: ‘He told me to keep it up'

Pachuca ace reveals praise from Florentino Perez ahead of Real Madrid clash: 'He told me to keep it up' Real Madrid faced Pachuca just back in December in the final of the Intercontinental Cup, a competition that was formerly known as the Club World Cup. They are now playing in the new version of the Club World Cup and once again find themselves pitted against Pachuca, albeit in the group stages this time. Advertisement When the two teams met in December, Los Blancos swept the opponents away with a 3-0 win but it was anything but easy as Pachuca punched above their weight and delivered a strong fight. One Mexican star who caught the world's eye in particular was Elias Montiel, the 19-year-old monster who racked up three key passes and even had a shot blocked against Real Madrid on the night. The young star speaks out Speaking to the media in a recent interview, the Mexican starlet commented on the face-off against Real Madrid in the Intercontinental Cup last year and how he had a performance of a lifetime despite the final result. Advertisement 'It's something I still don't quite assimilate but yes, remembering that is very nice. Being surrounded by figures and reaching that final. We surprised a lot of people in that tournament,' he said modestly. He then revealed how Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had special words for him after the game and the praises he showered. 'Yes, after passing the protocol of delivering the trophy and so on, I got off the podium and crossed where the directives and important people of Qatar were,' he began. 'As I passed by I greeted Florentino but he stopped me because he grabbed my hand tightly and there I was very surprised, I didn't know how to act,' he added. 'That what they had told him about me were not lies (smiles). He told me to keep it up, looking forward to it and growing. I thanked him,' he added. The player then went on to speak about his role models and the players he idolised in the world of football. 'I've always liked Iniesta a lot. His way of seeing the game and how smart he is.' 'And currently, Pedri and Vitinha are the ones I pay attention to the most, they are one of those players from whom you try to grab certain things to feed me from their football,' he added. Advertisement The young talent then spoke on the impending challenge against Real Madrid this weekend and how it would be a special game, especially facing the likes of Luka Modric who will be playing one of his final games as a Real Madrid player. 'It's impressive to be with these soccer players, they are world legends, and it gives you a huge motivation. Those players you saw as a little kid in FIFA.' Finally, he was asked if he would be in Europe to showcase his talent soon, especially with Real Madrid's president speaking highly of him. 'Yes, I have that goal well set, I want to fulfil that dream. I don't know if it will happen this summer or already in winter, but it's my goal,' he concluded. Source: AS

The Boston Celtics should consider making some major changes this offseason

The Boston Celtics should consider making some major changes to their roster this offseason. Or at least that is the point of view offered up to fans of the team by two of the hosts of the CLNS Media "Still Poddable" podcast, Brian Robb and Jay King, on a recent episode of their show tackling some of the wilder rumors floating around the Celtics media sphere so far this offseason. Such a move, presumably involving trading away the likes of star forward Jaylen Brown or point guard Derrick White on top of some of the other popular candidates to be moved (including vets Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis as well as 3-and-D reserve forward Sam Hauser), would reshape the team for a future focused on the return of star swingman Jayson Tatum when he is fully back from a torn Achilles tendon. Advertisement Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the wisdom of such a drastic move. Draymond Green Says This Could Be The Last Chance For The Thunder To Win A Title

Draymond Green Says This Could Be The Last Chance For The Thunder To Win A Title originally appeared on Fadeaway World. With NBA history on the line, the Oklahoma City Thunder don't need any more motivation to play their best in Sunday's pivotal Game 7 at the Paycom Center. Still, Draymond Green gave them some extra incentive to win with his claim that this year may be their last chance to get it done. Advertisement "It's a coin flip. All it takes is one Kyrie Irving shot to flip the game, one LeBron James chase-down block," said Draymond on his podcast. "That's what OKC is up against; they were supposed to win. The pressure is all on them. Indiana is coming out is coming out with a free swing and they are coming out playing loose like 'we got nothing to lose, we were never supposed to be here in the first place.' I want to see what OKC is going to do because if they don't win this championship, they may never win the championship." The Thunder are still relatively young with their top three players all being 26 or younger (SGA is 26, Jalen Williams is 23, and Chet Holmgren is 22). Many of their regular rotation players are still on their rookie contracts, and they have a whole stockpile of draft picks to keep building up their roster. By all accounts, it seems like the Thunder are built for lasting success. For Green, however, he predicts Oklahoma City could resort to tweaking the roster if they lose in Game 7. "I think they are in a tough position if they don't win a championship," said Green. "When you get the opportunity to win a championship, if you win it, you give yourself the opportunity to win more. But if you lose it, now you start tweaking stuff and those tweaks could put you further away than you were." Advertisement As a 4x champion and former Defensive Player of the Year, Draymond knows what it takes to win at the highest level, and he is uniquely qualified to measure and determine NBA title odds. As young and talented as the Thunder are, Green says they cannot let this opportunity slip if they want to maintain their upward trajectory. In a league where a new champion is crowned every year, parity is at an all-time high, and the competition has never been steeper. In the West alone, the Thunder will have to worry about teams like the Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Lakers for years to come, and success is not guaranteed. If the Thunder miss out on this opportunity, they may never get the chance again, whether it's due to injuries, roster changes, or simply bad luck. We haven't had a repeat champion since 2018, and with the NBA deeper than ever, the Thunder will have to overcome massive odds just to get back to the position they're in now. For a team that finished first in the West with the MVP and the best record in the league, anything less than the championship is a failure, and their fans expect nothing less than absolute victory. They know that you can't take the Finals for granted and that it could be their best chance to win the title for years.
