ABU DHABI (WAM)Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently launched the pilot operation of a new electric bus on Route F13, a feeder service to metro stations.The route starts from Al Quoz Bus Depot and passes through key destinations, including Burj Khalifa, The Palace Downtown Hotel, and Dubai Fountain, before terminating at the Dubai Mall Metro Bus Stop (South).The electric bus is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including advanced features such as high-definition camera and screen systems that replace traditional mirrors, and a transparent head-up display that projects essential driving information onto the front windscreen to support driver awareness and other smart systems.The RTA aims to operate smart, eco-friendly public transport systems supported by innovative technology, reinforcing its commitment to transforming all public transport into zero-emission mobility by 2050. This initiative ensures seamless and sustainable transportation across Dubai.The bus has been designed to suit Dubai's local environmental conditions and is equipped with innovative smart technologies and modern specifications. These include a best-in-class air conditioning system and high-capacity batteries with 470 kWh of storage—the largest of any electric bus previously tested in RTA's fleet.When fully charged, the bus can travel up to 370 km. The vehicle is a 12-metre-long city bus with a total capacity of 76 passengers, including 41 seated and 35 standing.Marwan Al Zarooni, Director of Buses at RTA's Public Transport Agency, said, 'The technologies integrated into the new electric bus, manufactured by Volvo, will enable RTA teams to collect data that supports the adoption of new concepts and specifications for future buses—enhancing both performance and safety throughout the journey.'He explained that through this trial, RTA will monitor the environmental benefits of operating the electric bus within the Public Transport Agency's fleet on a high-demand route with actual passengers.
The trial will assess the reduction in carbon emissions, the real-world range achieved on a full charge, and the vehicle's ability to meet operational requirements under varying weather conditions, particularly during summer.

21 June 2025 16:04 MUSCAT (WAM) The latest data released by the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) revealed that the expected spending by visitors to GCC countries is projected to reach $223.7 billion in 2034, while the expected contribution of incoming visitor spending to total exports will reach 13.4%.The Centre also indicated that GCC countries are achieving steady progress in many tourism-related data demonstrate that total international visitor spending in GCC countries amounted to $135.5 billion in 2023, with a 28.9% increase compared to the figures recorded in GCC countries ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region's 2024 Safety and Security Index. All GCC countries scored above the regional average of 5.86 points, taking into consideration that the index ranges from 1 to 7 points. They also ranked among the top 6 countries in terms of passport power in the Arab region.

Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) recently announced that its adding to its fleet of buses and have ordered 637 public buses to grace the roads of Dubai. The buses are worth a large Dhs1.1 billion and are sure to assist in the development of public transport around the city. The buses are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026 and there will be various types including 40 electric ones. The announcement was shared after four major agreements were made and, H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, witnessed the signing at UITP Global Public Transport Summit. RTA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company BYD, to pilot the operation of an electric bus equipped with the latest technologies and battery systems offered by the company. The trial will take place in Dubai over a period that includes the summer season.
