BRS Sounds the Bugle for Government Employees' Rights
Hyderabad: In a decisive move to champion the rights of government employees and pensioners, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced plans to launch a coordinated campaign to pressure the Congress-led state government into addressing long-pending demands. As the principal opposition, BRS leaders asserted that they cannot remain silent while lakhs of serving and retired government employees continue to face neglect and hardship.
A key meeting was held on Friday at the residence of senior leader Harish Rao, under the leadership of BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao. The meeting brought together former leaders of employees' associations, retired officials, and representatives of various teachers' and employees' unions.
Participants discussed the deteriorating situation over the past 18 months, alleging that the current state government has failed to deliver on its pre-election promises to employees. Core demands such as clearing pending Dearness Allowances (DA), implementing the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations, and releasing pensions and retirement benefits on time have remained unfulfilled. Several attendees expressed concern that even basic rights are being denied, with retired employees forced to run from pillar to post in their old age.
Speaking at the meeting, KTR and Harish Rao expressed deep concern over the state's apathy. "It is our duty as the principal opposition to stand by government employees. We will not stay quiet while lakhs of employees suffer at the hands of a negligent government," they said.
The BRS leadership stressed the need to develop a clear action plan in the coming days. The party also announced its support for serving employees' union leaders and urged former union heads, especially those who played a vital role in the Telangana statehood movement, to take part in the renewed effort.
'BRS has always stood by the aspirations and rights of employees. We are committed to working with them and bringing pressure on the government to ensure justice,' the leaders affirmed.
The party is expected to unveil a detailed action strategy soon and rally support from employees' associations across the state.

CHENNAI: Actor-turned-politician and Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay turned 51 on Sunday. Birthday greetings from several political leaders, particularly from the BJP, triggered speculation on social media about possible attempts to woo the fledgling party into the NDA fold ahead of the 2026 Assembly election. From the DMK-led alliance, TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai also wished Vijay. PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss conveyed his wishes as well. In Chennai, TVK general secretary Bussy N Anand and deputy general secretary Aadhav Arjuna led the celebrations. ‘Bound to fail': Tejasvi Surya slams ₹18,000 crore Congress-backed tunnel project in Bengaluru
BJP leader and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has strongly criticised the Karnataka government's ₹ 18,000 crore tunnel road project, calling it 'unscientific' and 'bound to fail.' Tejasvi Surya also questioned the integrity of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which was prepared at a cost of ₹ 9.5 crore.(FILE) He alleged that the Congress government is systematically neglecting public transport in the city while pushing forward with projects that are financially and environmentally unsound. The proposed tunnel road, planned between Hebbal and Silk Board, has been mired in controversy from the start. Surya highlighted several concerns, beginning with the limited access, the tunnel is expected to be open only to four-wheelers and would require commuters to pay a toll of ₹ 600 per return journey. (Also Read: Bengaluru sees light showers and pleasant weather, rain likely to pick up later this week) Check out his post here: He also questioned the integrity of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which was prepared at a cost of ₹ 9.5 crore by a consultant who had reportedly been blacklisted elsewhere. "Even after such an exorbitant cost, several sections of the DPR were allegedly copied from another report," he said. Calling the tunnel an 'unscientific solution' to Bengaluru's growing mobility challenges, Surya warned that the project could end up becoming a massive drain on public funds. He pointed to the proposed 40 per cent Viability Gap Funding, under which the state government would cover an additional ₹ 7,200 crore to compensate for the project's projected losses. Taking a direct swipe at Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Surya posted on X (formerly Twitter), 'Thank you, @DKShivakumar, for neglecting crucial civic issues such as potholes, underfunding public transport, delaying Metro projects, withholding Fare Fixation Committee reports, and pushing forward with an unscientific project.' Surya's remarks came in response to a post by Shivakumar, who promoted the tunnel project on X, calling it a game-changer for Bengaluru's traffic woes. 'Your time matters. We're building with you in mind,' Shivakumar wrote, outlining the project's key promises — the ability to skip over 25 traffic bottlenecks, save more than 45 minutes of daily commute time, enjoy 16.75 km of seamless, signal-free travel, and get direct access to the IT corridor. 'A faster, smarter Bengaluru is on its way — because you deserve better,' he added. (Also Read: Green signal for Bengaluru's Skydeck: ₹ 500 cr tourism landmark to rise at Kommaghatta)
