King Charles' sense of humour applauded by comic pal who mocks Harry on stage

Daily Mirror27-05-2025

Comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner says King Charles can see funny side of most things even in the royal household
Rory Bremner says his friend King Charles has a 'terrific sense of humour' - thankfully, as he ribs the monarch's feud with his son Prince Harry on stage.
The comedian and impressionist, who coached Dominic West in preparing for his role on The Crown, says the King takes all his material in good spirits.

'He's got a terrific sense of humour - he's got a great sense of humour,' says Rory. 'I've always liked him. I think he was ahead of his time. He's been wonderfully inspirational.'

It's fortunate the pair get on, as Rory's latest joke involves Charles having to entertain US President Donald Trump during his upcoming visit.
Rory's joke for his latest tour sees him quip in Charles voice: 'I'm expected to look after every Tom, Dick or… well, maybe not Harry.'
In his skit, he makes out Trump's invitation, handed by Sir Keir Starmer, is 'like a red letter day from WH Smith', that he jokes Charles resents.
'He's been landed with the state visit and he's King of Canada,' laughs Rory. 'And Trump's talking about, 'Why don't you be the 51st state?''
As Charles he jokes: 'I would be able to show my face in Canada again. Even on the stamps.'

But Rory believes he will see the funny side, as the King told him to 'shut up' when he previously quipped to him: 'In less than a year you've gone from head of state to head of prostate.'
Now, Rory says his joke came out unfiltered due to him having ADHD.
Speaking in the ADHD Foundation garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show he laughed: 'That's ADHD for you. No filter, it just came straight out.'

Rory also sets up Charles as being an avid viewer of the controversial Netflix series in which Dominic portrays him.
'One of the lines I'm using now is the idea of Charles saying, 'I'm just watching The Crown, don't tell me what happens.''
But Rory insists his aim was to help Dominic portray Charles more sympathetically.

'Both Dominic and I sensed that the script was less sympathetic to Charles,' he says.
'We were, both of us, fans, if you like, and both of us like and admire Charles and feel that he's… we just like him.
'And I think one of the things we spoke about was when the script was being unduly unsympathetic, that somehow in the portrayal of the character, he could make Charles a more sympathetic character.'
However, he adds: 'We did laugh quite a lot, Dominic West. I don't know how much I helped, I think we spent 45 minutes laughing. It's part of the body language as well.'

Girls enjoy unexpected Grave Encounter with Hollywood actress Jenna Ortega

Her role in Addams Family spin-off Wednesday has seen her shoot all manner of graveyard scenes with her on-screen mother Catherine Zeta Jones. And it seems actress Jenna Ortega is equally at home in cemetries during her time off after she was spotted walking her dog in Glasgow 's Victorian city of the dead. The 22 year old Netflix star, who is in Scotland to film scenes for Star Wars director JJ Abrams latest movie, took time out of her day for a stroll in Glasgow's necropolis. During the outing, the friendly star stopped to pose for a photo with a group of young women, including another famous face - Dave Grohl 's daughter Harper, 16. It's not clear if Grohl, who has been sharing photos of the city's tourist attractions on social media this week, was there with Ortega or if it was a chance celebrity encounter. The Wednesday star looked relaxed in her all black ensemble as she posed for pictures with the group at the Necropolis - with the images showing her laughing during the exchange. Meanwhile, Dave Grohl's second eldest daughter Harper is an accomplished drummer who has joined her father onstage at gigs before. Ortega told the Scots she met that she was exploring the city during her break before shooting scenes for the Abrams film at 10pm. One of the group who spoke to Ortega, took to social media to share details of the encounter. She wrote: 'She's shooting a film here. We met her on her break.' She addded: 'She said we all looked so cool and she complimented my friends shirt!' Inspired by the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, Glasgow's necropolis opened in May 1833 and is the final resting place for some 50,000 souls from the 19th century. Ortega was also spotted taking a stroll around the city centre, circling Blytheswood Square, Pitt Street and West George Street with her beloved dog. The American star, who has been acting since 2012, became a household name thanks to her part as the central character in Netflix comedy series Wednesday based on The Addams Family character of the same name. Fellow co-stars include 55-year-old Zeta Jones, who plays Wednesday's mother Morticia, and former Bond girl Joanna Lumley, 79, who is a new edition for season two as Moriticia's mother Hester Frump. And it isn't the only spooky production Ortega's been involved in, having starred in Beetlejuice 2 alongside Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. Abrams' latest movie is rumoured to be a sci-fi adventure called Ghostwriter and also stars Hollywood actors Glen Powell and Samuel L Jackson. The Warner Bros production was in Edinburgh and has now been filming long shoots into the early hours of the morning in Glasgow. Sets include dystopian Asian style restaurants with futuristic vehicles and although Jackson has not yet been seen, Powell has been spotted running up hills and walking along pavements in character. Director Abrams told fans who met him this week that he was enjoying his time shooting in Glasgow after being here secretly in February to check out locations during Glasgow Film Festival.

Netflix fans rave over gore-filled revenge thriller with 'the female John Wick' - insisting 'they could make 100 more and I'd watch every one!'

Netflix fans have raved over a gore-filled revenge thriller with 'the female John Wick ' and insisted 'they could make 100 more and I'd watch every one!' The Wrath Of Becky premiered in 2023 and has recently been added to the streaming platform. Packed full of action and blood, the highly acclaimed film stars Lulu Wilson as the titular lead character, a teenage girl. Becky moved in with a new caregiver, Elena, and finds herself seeking revenge after a trio of extremists cause her hassle and steal her pet dog. The film follows on from a 2020 prequel, called Becky, which saw the young girl lose her father after a group of Neo-Nazi convicts attacked their family's lake house. Fans have enjoyed the film over the years and many have left their verdicts online. One viewer penned on Letterboxd: 'I could watch Lulu Wilson play Becky in 10 more sequels.' Another said: 'She's basically the female version of a teenage John Wick.' While someone else reportedly penned: 'They could make 100 films about Becky slaying Proud Boys and Neo Nazis and I would watch every single one of them.' 'Solid revenge thriller with some lovely kills and a little twist of humour,' another added. One fan said: 'Omg I was on the edge of my SEAT the entire time this was so intense but also somehow comedic HOW do you do that at the same time?? Pls watch this SEQUEL NOW SEQUEL NOW.' 'Did not realise this was a sequel but still enjoyed watching it nonetheless. A good action film that gets straight to the point,' someone else penned. However, not everyone has enjoyed the film and one said: 'It's a no from me.' It comes as Netflix fans are captivated by another thriller 'full of twists and turns', gushing about how 'it kept them guessing until the very end' and binge-watching every episode in one sitting. Love Rat, first released to Channel 5 in March last year, follows Emma (Coronation Street 's Sally Lindsay), a woman at a crossroads in later life. Just divorced from husband Pete (Men Behaving Badly's Neil Morrissey) and estranged from her daughter, she grows tired of mundane everyday life. In search of escape, she travels to Cyprus on holiday where she quickly embarks on a whirlwind romance with handsome, rich hotel owner Niko (Gerald Kyd) - but not all is as it seems. Emma suddenly finds herself scammed out of her life savings - and enlists her ex to help get them back.
