Traditional, innovative foods on display at expo

A three-day food processing and technology expo 'Food Tech 2025' displaying traditional and innovative foods organised by the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) was inaugurated at Ida Scudder auditorium in Madurai.
Speaking at the inauguration, Director of ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchi, R. Selvarajan said that India has significantly progressed from the days of famine. It was now exporting agricultural products and this was achieved through research.
Out of the eight varieties of bananas that had received geographical indication (GI) tag, three varieties were from Tamil Nadu: Kanniyakumari Matti Banana, Sirumalai Hill Banana and Virupakshi Hill Banana. Bananas were very popular, he said.
He pointed out that the Centre in Tiruchi had introduced several varieties of bananas and also traditional and innovative products. Some of the products included banana stem juice and pickles, banana flower thokku, low fat chips and other value added products which had received good reception from the people, he said.
Assistant General Manager (NABARD) A.S. Sakthi Balan said that efforts were being taken to promote new ideas and back them financially. There was a need to invest in new ideas, he said. There were supply chain constraints which needed to be identified and rectified, he added.
MADITSSIA president A. Kodeeswaran welcomed the gathering. He said that the main objective of the expo was to help people understand the business and encourage start-ups. Chairperson of the expo A. Anbarasan said that the idea was to introduce the people to technology and improve the business overall.
Vice-Chairperson V. Suraj Sundara Shankar said that seminars will be held as part of the expo. Experts will be presenting papers on various topics for the benefit of the people. Secretary V. Senthilkumar proposed a vote of thanks.
Buildex 2025, a building material and property exhibition, organised by MADITSSIA was also inaugurated at Ida Scudder auditorium. Products related to construction and architecture and interior design were on display at the expo.

He noted that the world is now looking to Indian agricultural education and encouraged students to embrace innovation. Speaking as the chief guest at the 'Workshop on Agricultural Education and Opportunities' held at the Horticulture College in Rajendranagar, he highlighted the crucial role that agro-based start-up industries play in India's ambition to become a 5 trillion USD economic powerhouse. Dr. Agrawal also pointed out that the application of Artificial Intelligence is expected to drive a rural revolution in the future, improving farmers' income sources. He predicted that by 2029, opportunities in this sector would reach a value of 6.58 billion USD, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.8 percent. forecasted that by 2040, there will be 1.77 million job opportunities in agriculture, with an annual increase of over 8 percent. Dr Danda Rajireddy, Vice Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTHU), stated that universities are being equipped with the necessary infrastructure, thanks to support from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the state government. He affirmed that the standards of Indian agricultural education are now competitive globally.

Jhansi: The 15-day long campaign aimed at enlightening the farmers of Bundelkhand with new technologies and technical knowhow to increase their crop productivity, organised by ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute, concluded here on Thursday. During a press brief held here on Friday, principal scientist CAFRI RP Dwivedi said that the main objective of the campaign, termed 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan-2025', was to reach farmers before the monsoon, equipping them with technical knowledge. The initiative also sought to create awareness about various govt schemes, promote good agricultural practices, and encourage active farmer participation. According to Dwivedi, The campaign's focus rested on improving farmers' understanding through field demonstrations, direct interactions, and expert consultations over a period of fifteen days, he said and added the key goals of the campaign included dissemination of information on improved agricultural methods, adoption of modern technologies suitable for Kharif crops, promoting crop selection using soil health cards, and ensuring the efficient use of approved inputs. Principal Scientist AK Handa said that during the campaign, a team of seventeen scientists along with technical staff from CAFRI visited ninety villages in the region and conducted awareness and outreach activities. The campaign concluded on June 12 with an online programme attended by the Union minister of agriculture, Govt of India, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and the director-general of ICAR, ML Jat. A seminar on government subsidy schemes, Zed certification and energy audit was jointly organised by Maditssia and the District Industries Centre at Maditssia Hall. The meeting was chaired by District Industries Centre General Manager S. Ganesan and Maditssia president A. Kodeeswaran. Event coordinator A. Shyam Narayanan explained the services provided to entrepreneurs through the Maditssia Business Information Centre. Zed consultant T.
