UAE FA kick two players out of national camp with heavy fines for misconduct
Dubai: The United Arab Emirates Football Association has suspended defender Khalid Al-Dhanhani and forward Sultan Adel for five domestic matches and fined each player 500,000 AED (US$136,132.21) yesterday for misconduct during a national team training camp.
The players have left the camp with immediate effect due to a violation of disciplinary rules and will not travel with the squad to Kyrgyzstan for tomorrow's final third round match of Asia's World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
"The disciplinary committee of the UAE Football Association has decided to suspend Sharjah player Khalid Al-Dhanhani and Shabab Al-Ahli player Sultan Adil for five domestic matches, and to impose a fine of Dh500,000 on each," the UAE FA said in a statement yesterday.
"They have also been removed from the senior national team list after committing a violation inside the national team training camp on June 7."
With Iran and Uzbekistan qualifying for the World Cup after securing the top two spots in Group A, UAE will move into the fourth round of Asian qualifying along with Qatar, with the two Gulf teams set to finish third or fourth.
In this round, group winners will earn direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup, while runners-up will proceed to the fifth round for another shot at reaching the finals.

Police hunt masked trio after armed robbery in Teluk Intan
TELUK INTAN: Police are intensifying efforts to locate three masked men involved in a robbery at an entertainment outlet here, which left two patrons injured. Hilir Perak district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the incident which occurred on June 15, has gone viral on social media. He said police received a report from a 42-year-old local man working as a security guard at the entertainment premises located on Jalan Changkat Jong at 1.02am on June 15. "The man reported that three masked male suspects, armed with parang and arriving in a Honda vehicle with its licence plates removed, stormed into the premises. "They damaged property inside the premises and stole an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash from the counter," he said in a statement. He added that the suspects also smashed the windows of four vehicles belonging to customers and injured two patrons using parang, both inside and outside the premises. "Initial investigations successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. This suspect has now been placed on the wanted list. "The forensic unit from the Perak Police Headquarters visited the scene and found several pieces of evidence, including traces of blood, two fingerprints, and glass shards. "CCTV footage has also been obtained from the location to assist in the ongoing investigation," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using weapons, and under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage to property. If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment of up to 20 years, along with fines and caning. Bakri said police are actively conducting investigations, and efforts to track down all involved suspects are being intensified. They were suspected of causing injuries to patrons, damaging items, stealing money and vandalising cars at an entertainment outlet in Changkat Jong near Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said a police report was lodged by a 42-year-old local man working as a security guard at the entertainment premises on June 15. 'The complainant said that the three masked male suspects armed with machetes arrived in a car without a license plate number, and stormed into the premises. 'The suspects proceeded to damage items inside the premises and stole a phone belonging to a staff member, along with RM2,000 from the counter. 'Additionally, the suspects smashed the windows of four vehicles belonging to customer, and injuring two patrons using machetes both inside and outside the premises,' he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). ACP Bakri stated that initial investigations have successfully identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a criminal record. He said the forensic unit from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters visited the crime scene and recovered several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints and shards of glass.
