Hundreds of employees at the VOA were notified Friday they are being laid off as President Trump's administration works to trim down and retool the English-language broadcaster under his close ally Kari Lake Kari Lake announced termination notices would be sent to employees at the broadcaster, part of what she called a 'long overdue' effort to trim down the 'bloated unaccountable bureaucracy' overseeing the outlet. The move comes just days after USAGM Senior Adviser Kari Lake called back dozens of employees for the network's Persian-language service amid Israel's conflict with Iran, reports The Independent.'For decades, American taxpayers have been forced to bankroll an agency that's been riddled with dysfunction, bias and waste. That ends now,' said Kari Lake, Trump's senior advisor to USAGM, in Friday's termination announcement. The layoffs at the agency began in March when President-elect Trump signed an executive order targeting federal agencies he labelled as "bloated bureaucracy". VIA staff were placed on paid leave and broadcasts were suspended. In December last year, Trump picked Kari Lake to run the state-funded global media organisation Voice of America (VOA), the publicly funded broadcast network that drew his ire in his first term. A former local news anchor and staunch Trump ally, Lake mounted unsuccessful Senate and gubernatorial campaigns in Arizona, according to a TOI report.Lake is a top adviser at the US Agency for Global Media , which oversees the VOA, Radio Free Europe and a number of other foreign broadcast outlets launched by the federal government after World War II. She stated that, if elected governor, she would oppose both mask and vaccine mandates. In November 2021, during a talk with Republican retirees, Lake revealed she was taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure against COVID-19. She also expressed skepticism about the science behind COVID-19 vaccines and said she had not been vaccinated. Lake was previously married to electrical engineer Tracy Finnegan. Shah's take on English is his personal view: EPS

Coimbatore: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday said Union home minister Amit Shah's remark that a time would come when English speakers would feel embarrassed was his personal view. "Everyone has their own opinion. What he said was his personal view. He had, at the same time, emphasised on the importance of the mother tongue. Shah pointed out that some people are giving more importance to English than to their native language." Speaking to the media at the city airport, EPS said the public anger against the DMK was growing and that an anti-people govt was governing Tamil Nadu. "To divert attention from this, they are spreading 'derogatory' cartoons. The people would deliver appropriate punishment in the 2026 assembly elections." When asked about International Yoga Day , he said, "Yoga is essential for physical health and the Prime Minister is promoting it, for which he deserves congratulations."

'Democratic Party corrupt': Indian-origin county judge KP George announces switch to GOP; Republicans say they don't want him

Indian-origin county judge KP George announces he will be joining the Republican Party. Indian-origin judge of Fort Bend County, Texas, recently announced that he will be switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party and will run as a Republican in his 2026 re-election bid. But the Republican Party of Texas said they don't support George's attempt to rebrand himself as a Republican as George never supported the principles of the party and is only switching the party as he is facing money laundering charges. George made history when he was first elected in 2018 as an Indian-American. 'Today, I'm making an all-important announcement that I am officially joining the Republican Party. For the past few years, it has become very clear to me, and also many others, that the Democratic Party has become one of corrupt and radical political ideology and positions that simply do not reflect the values of Fort Bend County families, small businesses and hardworking residents of Fort Bend County,' George said as he announced his decision. 'I have always believed in the foundational American principles of faith, family and freedom, And I realize that the Republican Party champions these values,' George said. Judge George is facing an indictment on a misdemeanor offense and has consistently maintained his innocence, calling the charges against him a 'political witch hunt.' The Democrats have demanded he resign. In his press conference, George said prosecutors offered to drop the felony charges if he agreed to resign. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! The Republican Party said in a statement that the charges against KP George are rooted in documented allegations of unethical and possibly criminal behavior. "KP George has never supported our platform, principles or priorities," party chairman Abraham George said. "While we are not in the business of telling people they cannot become Republicans, we are also not going to stand by while someone tries to hijack our Party's good name to escape the consequences of their actions," KP George said he does not expect everyone to embrace him. "I am looking forward to prove it to them. I'm going to be a better Republican than anybody in the coming months," he said. Born in India's Kerala, KP George studied in India. He immigrated to the United States in 1993 and started working for a financial firm in New York. Then he settled in Texas, earning certifications in finance and becoming a certified financial planner.
