Wrexham athletes have impressed during parkrun events

Fourth-placed finishes were achieved by Connor Rogers (21.45) and Ellis Jones (9.05) at the Llangollen and Alyn Waters junior events respectively.
Evelyn Roberts (14th in 10.48) was the other Wrexham racer at Alyn Waters, with Charles Ashley (28th in 29.13), Peter Howell (60th in 34.43) and Alexis Baty (64th in 39.31) also tackling the Llangollen race.
Rachel N Reeves (214th in 50.33) competed at Prestatyn Nova and Mike Robbins (23rd in 25.42) took on the Wepre race, while Steffan Thomas (49th in 24.41) and Gruffydd Thomas (50th in 24.42) had a great battle at the Park in the Past event. They were joined at the race by Deiniol Thomas (124th in 30.16).
Jonny Hudson (12th in 22.37), Rhys Hatfield (35th in 25.51) and Megan Hatfield (42nd in 26.15) were the leading Wrexham AAC finishers at Erddig. They were followed by Peter Hughes (44th in 26.31), Karl Moore (80th in 30.10) and John Tipping (179th in 58.49).
Deestriders are organising a series of off-road four-mile multi-terrain races from Rowleys Drive, Shotton on Thursday, July 3 (7.30pm start), Thursday, August 7 (7.30pm), and Friday, September 6 (7pm).

Gareth Wilson's side are heading into the new campaign on the back of a terrific season, which saw them claim the Ardal North East League title to secure promotion to the second tier. Brickfield have confirmed the signing of experienced forward Alex Darlington. Darlington arrives at the club with an impressive pedigree, having represented a number of top clubs throughout his career, including the likes of Wrexham, The New Saints, Airbus, Aberystwyth, Cefn Druids and Maltese side Mosta. "I know Gaz and the coaching staff well, and that connection played a big part in my decision to join the club." Wilson added: "Securing a player of Alex's calibre is a real statement of intent from the club. "I'm absolutely delighted to have him on board and am looking forward to working closely with him. His experience, professionalism, and quality will be a massive asset to our group." Former Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Bolton and Colwyn Bay player Danny Jones is one new addition who is sure to bring quality to the squad. The attacking midfielder told the club's Facebook page: 'I'm hungry to make a big impact this season and help the team in any way I can,' Brothers Matty and Ryan Williams are further new additions to Rangers' squad ahead of the forthcoming season. Matt admitted: "I'm thrilled to officially join Bricky and be part of this exciting project. "The gaffer has shared his vision and expectations for the season and I'm fully committed to contributing my best on and off the pitch. "I can't wait to get started, work hard with the team and help us achieve great things together." Ryan added: "Excited to join Brickfield. Can't wait to meet the lads and get the new season started." Team boss Wilson said: "Bringing Matty and Ryan into the squad is a big step forward for us. "Matty is a natural leader with great composure and experience, and Ryan brings real quality and drive. "He's got bags of potential and the hunger to take his game to the next level. "I've no doubt he'll become a fan favourite. I'm buzzing to get both lads on board - they understand what we're building here at Bricky and are fully on board with the direction we're going." It's not all about the new signings, with plenty of last season's title-winning squad remaining on board with the club. Andy Vale, last season's top scorer in the league for the club with 22 goals, is staying on for the Cymru North tilt, alongside the likes of Tom Williams, Dom Doherty, Jay Richardson, Isaac Dawson, Aden Fox, Ben Dawson, Ryan Lancelotte and Kian Thomas. Gerson Silva Neto, goalkeeper Ryan Price, Lewis Clamp, Callum Roberts, Simon Smith, Harry Fuller and Leroy Stamp are others to be retained by Rangers.

And Heskey reckons that the chance to make a move Stateside could appeal to the attacker - rather than join Russell Martin and his American revolution due to the level of intensity of the MLS. ‌ He told VBET: "It all depends on what Jamie Vardy wants to do with the rest of his career. "There are plenty of teams in the bottom half of the Premier League who could benefit from his experience and goal threat from the bench. But I can't see him being a starter in the Premier League. "If Vardy went and played for Wrexham in the Championship, it would be a lot of games for him to endure at his age. ‌ "I played in the Championship at 37, it was relentless, the stress of those games at that age felt much worse than it ever did in the Premier League, so it won't be easy for him if he signs for Wrexham. "Rangers would be a similar story to the Premier League, a little bit less intense, fewer games, but also less game time, I'd imagine. "If I were Vardy, I'd probably go and play abroad. Wrexham's James McClean speaks out on scary car crash – 'Smoke was everywhere'

Wrexham captain James McClean has opened up on the car crash he was involved in on his way to training earlier this year and how he was lucky to escape unscathed Wrexham skipper James McClean has recounted the harrowing moment he narrowly escaped severe injury following a car crash. The ex- Republic of Ireland star was driving to training on January 22 when his Audi RS6 hit a roundabout near Wrexham Golf Club. Despite extensive damage to his vehicle, the 36-year-old walked away from the accident with only minor injuries after being checked over as emergency services attended the scene. In an astonishing show of resilience, McClean didn't let the scare stop him and made it to training later that day once his car was removed. ‌ He even took to the pitch for Wrexham 's important League One match against Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground the next night, which ended in a 1-1 draw. McClean has now opened up about the incident, acknowledging he was fortunate to avoid more serious consequences. ‌ Discussing the ordeal during the latest instalment of the ' Welcome to Wrexham ' docuseries, McClean said: "It was a really foggy morning and it was hard to see. I thought I had more road than I did. I came out from behind a lorry and the roundabout just appeared. "For the next five seconds it was just a blur. Then the car stopped and there's all this smoke coming out of the car. The door was quite wedged and I was banging it to get it open." Reflecting on the seriousness of the incident, he added: "I just see it as there's bigger things ahead for me and it just wasn't my time. I was saved that day. It was a scary experience, but it just shows you how quickly things can change." McClean's wife Erin also expressed her alarm upon hearing about the accident via a text from her husband, with whom she shares four children. "I got a message from James saying he'd just been in a crash and he sent me a picture of the car," she said. "I didn't believe it. "My heart just started racing and then I rang him straight away. He answered and I was like, 'Are you hurt?' He was like, 'I'm actually okay.' I just jumped in the car and went straight to Wrexham. He came out and was like, 'I'm going to training.'" ‌ McClean previously exposed the vile taunts that Erin faced online after the accident. Taking to Instagram following his appearance against Birmingham, he posted: "Now that the game is out of the way, to address yesterday. An experience I never wish to encounter again. "I am blessed and thankful I managed to walk away with minor injuries and return home to my family, though much to the disappointment of some smelly scruffy pathetic creatures that messaged my wife online. Thank you for the messages of support." McClean made the move to Wrexham from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed sum in the summer of 2023, having previously played in the Premier League with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion. He has been instrumental in helping the club, which is owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, secure automatic promotion in the past two seasons, propelling them from League Two to the Championship.
