The Umm Suqeim Street development is now 70 percent complete
The RTA has confirmed that a major series of works to Umm Suqeim Street are now 70 percent complete.
Undergoing a huge improvement project, the works currently run between the intersection with Al Khail Road, through to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
Designed to reduce congestion, when complete the route should have its journey time reduced by 61 percent, from 9.7 to 3.8 minutes.

Part of a master development plan from Umm Suqeim to the Al Qudra corridor, the improvements will run all the way from Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road.
Expected to serve over one million residents, the corridor is set to help drivers coming from Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills, Arjan and Dubai Science Park.
So far, the completed works include the development of Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha South intersection, near Kings' School, featuring the construction of an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction along Umm Suqeim Street.

Speaking about the project, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said:
'The project complements RTA's efforts to improve connectivity between four major arterial roads in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
'It is designed to increase the corridor's capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, improve traffic flow, and reduce travel time between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by 61 percent from 9.7 minutes to just 3.8 minutes.'

Dubai tourism numbers indicate 2025 could be record year
It's no secret that Dubai is one of the best cities in the world with so many amazing things to do, tasty places to eat and incredible attractions to see. And the latest Dubai tourism numbers suggest that 2025 is set to be another record-breaking year when it comes to people visiting the emirate. Between January and April this year 7.15 million people visited the emirate, according to statistics released by Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism ahead of the summer season. For context, this number is a seven percent increase on the same period in 2024. Overall, last year saw a nine percent increase in visitors from 2023. Mohammed Bin Rashid Library (Credit: DET) While the latest overall statistics apply to the first four months of the year, the latest stats for the Eid Al Adha period show that Dubai remains a popular destination for travellers – with 629,559 people recorded at entry and exit points during the public holiday. Dubai's biggest airline Emirates will target specific regions with different promotions with free hotel stays, discounts on city attractions and more offered throughout the year. Regular live events, such as concerts, target this specific audience with a significant portion of ticket buyers for the city's many EDM shows hailing from Europe. It should also be no surprise that Dubai remains a popular tourist destination with its biggest airport, Dubai International Airport, being named the world's busiest international airport once again. And in the first period of the year, Dubai also hosted cultural festivals for Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr. While major sporting events such as the ICC Champions Trophy T20 cricket tournament, Hero Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament, Dubai World Cup horse race and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships all brought significant numbers of visitors to the emirate. The latest Dubai tourism figures came during a City Briefing at Coca-Cola Arena on Tuesday June 10. The City Briefing highlighted the initiatives such as Dubai's autism friendly certification and the MyDubai Communities programmes, as reasons the emirate is evolving as a destination. And it is hoped that the return of Dubai Summer Surprises will bring more visitors to the city throughout the season. Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), part of DET, said that the aim remains to make Dubai the world's best city to visit. He said: 'Building on yet another record-breaking performance in 2024, the exceptional results achieved by the industry so far in 2025 is a testament to the resilience and steadfast support of our stakeholders and partners. 'From hospitality and aviation to retail and gastronomy, every sector has played a critical role in solidifying Dubai's position as a global tourism leader. 6 facts you need to know about the Dubai Metro Blue Line
Work is finally underway on the Dubai Metro Blue Line – one of the biggest public transport projects in the emirate. The Blue Line will provide greater transport links for several busy residential neighbourhoods and allow visitors to explore Dubai more easily. Passenger numbers are expected to exceed 200,000 per day by 2030, rising to 320,000 per day by 2040 as Dubai continues to grow. The new line will consist of two routes – one 21km route and a smaller 9km route – and is scheduled to be completed on the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro in 2029. The Blue Line will have the world's tallest metro station Emaar Properties Station will be the world's tallest metro station (Credit: Dubai Media Office) In June, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai approved the design of the 'iconic' Emaar Properties Station on the Blue Line. The station, which will serve Dubai Creek Harbour, has been described as the 'highest metro station in the world' as it will stand at 74 metres tall. It was designed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, which is the same studio behind the Burj Khalifa. The exterior design was inspired by the shape of a seashell, and the interior reflects thematic models like heritage, earth, air, fire and water. More Dubai Metro stations will be named after brands (Credit: Dubai Media Office) When the design was approved for the Emaar Properties Station in Dubai Creek Harbour, it was revealed that the property developer would hold the naming rights for at least the first decade of operations. It will be the first but not the last station to be named after a brand on the Blue Line. In the next phase of the Dubai Metro Blue Line, the RTA will announce naming rights for other stations along the Blue Line. It is common for Dubai Metro stations to be named after brands, so you'll need to check ahead when planning any trips. Once completed, the Dubai Metro and Tram will have 78 stations Dubai Metro expansion plans have been announced (Credit: Dubai Media Office) With the addition of 14 brand new stations on the Blue Line, the Dubai Metro and Tram will have 78 stations. This will be an increase from 64 to 78 stations, with 67 of these serving the Dubai Metro. In 2024, the Dubai Government revealed that the Dubai Metro will have 140 stations by 2040. Currently, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is the only additional line that has been announced. Journey times will be up to 25 minutes The Dubai Metro Blue Line will have a direct link to Dubai International Airport (Credit: DXB) The new line will offer direct connectivity between Dubai International Airport and nine key areas once completed. Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City will all have a faster route to DXB. And the RTA says that travel time along the route will range from 10 minutes to 25 minutes, allowing more people to get to the airport in a flash. Exact plans for which stations will be on the surface and which will be underground have not been fully revealed. We do know that it will be home to the largest underground interchange station in the Dubai Metro network, spanning over 44,000 square metres, and that International City is the only announced interchange station on the line. Stations along the Blue Line will include public bus bays, taxi stands, dedicated areas for bike and electric scooter racks and parking spaces for people of determination. There will be three stations based in International City, including one underground interchange station allowing for greater connectivity across the existing Metro lines. This many people used Dubai public transport over Eid Al Adha
A public holiday in Dubai is always full of fun things to do, celebrations and special occasions that are some of the best in the world. And it's not just us that thinks so. In fact, 7.58 million people agreed, and all used public transport to get to their celebrations and over the long weekend. If you like this: UAE public holidays 2025: All the days off this year revealed According to figures released by the Road Transport Authority (RTA), a staggering 7,577,000 people used either public transport or taxis between Thursday June 5 to Sunday June 8. It seems more people than ever are making the most of all the incredible things the city has to see and do, as there was a 14 percent increase in the numbers since 2024. To really show you how many people were out hopping in Halas or swiping their Nol cards during Eid Al Adha, it's worth noting that on New Year's Eve 2024, the total number of passengers was 2.5 million. (Credit: Dubai Taxi Company) The number of metro passengers on both the red and green lines during the holiday reached 2,786,000, while the number of tram passengers reached 119,917. Out on the roads, public bus passengers reached 1,663,000, taxis carried 2,196,000, and shared transportation vehicles carried 504,159 passengers. Even marine transport was buzzing throughout the long weekend, with 307,684 people hopping on water taxis or abras. With such demand for public transport, it's no surprise that the latest metro line project is now well underway. Split into two routes, one spanning 21km and the other across 9km, the Blue Line will connect the north-east of the city with the existing Dubai Metro line and make it much easier and quicker to get around. It is scheduled to be completed by 2029, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, and will eventually reach around one million people.
