Horrifying moment ‘killer' slashes cops with sword after he ‘knifed boy, 14, to death in ferocious rampage'

The Irish Sun13-06-2025

THIS is the horrifying moment an alleged killer slashed at cops with a sword after he knifed a 14-year-old boy to death in the street, a court heard.
Marcus Arduini Monzo, 37, ambushed Daniel Anjorin, 14, on April 30 last year as he made his way to school in Hainault, East
London

Jurors heard Monzo also tried to kill female cop Yasim Mechem-Whitfield, Henry De Los Rios Polina, Sindy Arias and Donato Iwule in the
horror
.
Footage released by police shows the chilling moments after the rampage as brave officers attempted to stop Monzo.
He was also captured striking an ambulance with the sword as paramedics arrived to treat Daniel.
As an officer attempts to help the victim on the ground, Monzo then approaches while wielding the weapon.
Cops tell him to "drop it" but the so-called "mystic" replies: "Do you believe in God?"
He then flees through nearby gardens before being chased down an alleyway by police.
The footage shows a brave cop attempt to approach Monzo, who then slashes at them with a sword as an officer yells "police officer stabbed".
He also stabs another cop in the arm as they desperately try to block the sword with a baton.

The 20-minute horror only comes to an end when Monzo is Tasered and then handcuffed in a back garden.
The court heard the "talented" martial artist spent nearly £1,000 on swords in December 2023 before cancelling the order.
Moment 'killer' brands sword 'sexy' before he 'murdered, 14, boy in rampage'
He then bought two handmade Katana swords for £427.80 on February 21, 2024, with delivery coming through to his home in early April.
Previous footage played to jurors showed Monzo branding a sword "freaking sexy" as he lunged around holding the weapon.
The court heard he killed and skinned his own cat at home before setting off on the rampage after believing he was in the "Hunger Games".
He carried out the attack with "murderous intent" over a 20-minute period on April 30, it was said.
The Old Bailey heard Donato was the first to be attacked when Monzo "deliberately" drove into him in his van.
As he was knocked into a garden, Monzo allegedly got out the van and slashed his neck with the Samurai sword.
Donato managed to escape as emergency crews were scrambled to the residential street.
Meanwhile, Daniel was walking to school "minding his own business" when his life was "snuffed out in an instant".
Monzo allegedly used "extreme" force on the youngster, who suffered a "devastating and unsurvivable chopping injury" to his neck and face.
The court heard PC Mechem-Whitfield arrived at the scene of the horror and "bravely pursued" Monzo through alleyways after he tried to flee.
The officer was "struck three times" and suffered significant injuries in the horror.
Monzo then burst into a house to attack a couple in their bedroom as their child slept next to them, it was said.
He shouted out 'do you believe in God?' about four times then began to attack Henry De Los Rios Polania with the sword before attempting to stab his wife.
Jurors were told their lives were only spared because the youngster woke up and started to cry.
NHS systems were checked and revealed there were no documented mental
health
concerns or access to
mental health
services by Monzo.
The court heard Monzo does not dispute he carried out the attacks.
But the jury will have decide "why he did so and what his state of mind was" at the time.
His brother Eduardo told the court Monzo had consumed ayahuasca – a hallucinogenic plant-based drink commonly used in South America – during a stay at a remote retreat in the Amazon.
He said he was "concerned" as the drink has caused a "negative response" in some people.
Eduardo said his brother began to withdraw from his family when he returned from the retreat.
The court heard no trace of DMT – the hallucinogen found in ayahuasca – was detected in Monzo's system.
But prosecutors said his "conduct was brought about by self-induced intoxication in the form of drugs" that led to a "psychotic disorder".

Monzo, of West Beckton, Newham, denies murder, four counts of attempted murder and one of wounding with intent.
The trial continues.

Mike Lynch's superyacht fully raised above water for first time since it sank

Seven people died when the Bayesian sank off the Italian island on August 19, including billionaire Mr Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18 Tech tycoon Mike Lynch's superyacht the Bayesian is lifted to the surface near the fishing town of Porticello, Sicily (Peter Byrne/PA) Tech tycoon Mike Lynch's superyacht has been fully raised above water for the first time since it sank off the coast of Sicily. Seven people died when the Bayesian sank off the Italian island on August 19, including billionaire Mr Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18. The 56-metre (184ft) yacht was seen being held above the water by one of Europe's most powerful sea cranes near the fishing town of Porticello on Saturday afternoon. The yacht's propeller, rudder and keel all appeared to be intact. It was then lowered again slightly and salvage crews say that on Sunday it will be moved to Termini Imerese – where Italian prosecutors investigating the sinking are based. On Saturday morning, workers could be seen on the vessel, which is covered in mud and algae, while the canopy and guard rails are mangled. The full word 'Bayesian' could be seen on the stern of the yacht and a ladder which Italian coastguard officials say was originally on the ship to allow passengers to disembark was seen cracked and pointed upwards on the starboard side. Also visible on the top deck was the stump of the mast. Salvage workers say there were 18,000 litres of fuel on board. Investigators in the UK and Italy say raising the vessel is crucial to fully understanding what happened. Balloon-like kit will be used to lift the Bayesian's mast, a project insider said. The yacht's 72-metre (236ft) mast was cut off on Tuesday using a remote-controlled tool and rested on the seabed. Mike Lynch's superyacht the Bayesian is lifted to the surface near the fishing town of Porticello, Sicily (Peter Byrne/PA) He told PA: 'Lifting bags will be used on the mast, but this will not start until Tuesday or Wednesday. 'In the interim, the salvors on-site not accompanying Bayesian to port will be conducting a full sweep of the seabed site for any potential debris.' Meanwhile, Michele Maltese, of the Italian coastguard, told reporters that thermal cameras were used to check for any potential fuel leaks. A local law investigator was also at the scene, he said. Marcus Cave of British firm TMC Marine, which is overseeing the salvage efforts, said: 'This was a complex and precise lifting operation to recover Bayesian, and followed a step-by-step programme of salvage work. 'The salvage team has progressed in a systematic way that prioritised the safety of all working on site and minimised any potential impact on the environment. 'This care for personnel and for the environment will continue as Bayesian is transported into port tomorrow.' The vessel was originally expected to be raised last month, but salvage efforts were delayed after a diver died during underwater work on May 9, prompting greater use of remote-controlled equipment. Water is pumped off Mike Lynch's superyacht the Bayesian as it is lifted to the surface near Porticello, Sicily (Peter Byrne/PA) About 70 specialist personnel had been mobilised to Porticello from across Europe to work on the recovery operation, which began last month. Inquest proceedings in the UK are looking at the deaths of Mr Lynch and his daughter, as well as Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, 70, and his wife, Judy Bloomer, 71, who were all British nationals. Marine Accident Investigation Branch investigators said in an interim report that the Bayesian was knocked over by 'extreme wind'. The yacht had a vulnerability to winds, but the owner and crew would not have known, the report said. US lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo, and Canadian-Antiguan national Recaldo Thomas, who was working as a chef on the vessel, also died in the sinking. Fifteen people, including Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, were rescued. Mr Lynch and his daughter were said to have lived in the vicinity of London and the Bloomers lived in Sevenoaks in Kent. The tycoon founded software giant Autonomy in 1996 and was cleared in June last year of carrying out a massive fraud over the sale of the firm to Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011. The boat trip was a celebration of his acquittal in the case in the US.

Bayesian wreckage owned by tech tycoon Mike Lynch is lifted from sea floor

The sunken superyacht owned by tech tycoon Mike Lynch has been lifted to the surface by salvage experts Divers retrieved the body of Mike Lynch OBE, in the same yacht on Thursday, August 22, after the 56-metre-long luxury yacht capsized off Porticello, east of Palermo, as a result of violent winds and rain. The salvage team involved began pumping seawater out of it on Saturday, a mere 10 months after it sank off the coast of Sicily. At first light, work resumed on the salvage operation, with one of Europe's most powerful maritime cranes in use in a bid to haul the 184ft Bayesian from below the surface. The ship was badly damaged following the wreckage, with the upper decks appearing the most impacted. They have been working extensively with Dutch specialists Hebo Maritiemservice to lift the wreckage from the sea floor. Then on Monday it will be transported to the nearby port of Termini Imerese and handed over to the authorities who are investigating the sinking. The destruction of the £14m (€16.5m) yacht during torturous weather conditions on Monday, August 19, saw 15 of the 22 passengers rescued by the Italian Coast Guard, with the remaining seven becoming trapped or lost within the wreckage. Pic:Angela Bacares, 57, the wife of tycoon Mike Lynch and adoring mum of his daughter Hannah, was one of the 15 people who escaped the vessel in a tiny lifeboat after it capsized. Diving teams recovered the four bodies of Jonathan and Judy Bloomer and Chris and Neda Morvillo, who were guests on the yacht, on Wednesday. Renaldo Thomas – the yacht chef – was found dead on Monday near the boat. Italian media at the time reported that the victims were found on the opposite side of the yacht to their cabins, which suggested they may have been trying to escape the incoming water by reaching the higher ground

'My memories of him are just really when we were playfighting and carrying on,' she said. 'He was my brother.' A photo taken of the pair of them together on the family's porch is also something Sophie cherishes, but it's bittersweet. 'There's one that I quite like,' she said when asked if she had any photos of her and Alan jr. 'I was really quite young, so I don't remember it being taken, but it's a nice one. I know who 'murdered' my son, 23, on night out a decade ago... cops say he's missing but they need to probe vital clue By Ryan Merrifield A DESPERATE dad says he knows who 'murdered' his son, after he went missing over 12 years ago. Allan Bryant Jr disappeared while on a night out on November 3 2013, but he's never been found and no one ever brought to justice. The then-23-year-old was spotted on CCTV leaving Styx nightclub in Glenrothes, Fife, in Scotland, around 2am - but what happened next remains a mystery. Mr Bryant said he and his family have accepted his son is dead but he, Allan's mum Marie and sisters Amy and Sophie want closure. He told The Sun he's passed thousands of tip-offs over the years to Police Scotland, but ultimately without any luck. Mr Bryant said he 'begged' the force to release a clip of the CCTV video footage, which they finally did months after the disappearance. The determined dad is adamant he knows who killed his boy and hopes it is just a matter of time before someone comes forward with information that could lead to a conviction. He said: 'A lot of people have come forward and it all points in the same direction about what happened to Allan.' In 2015, the family was passed information to police which suggested Allan had gone to a house party after leaving the club. Two years later, cops searched a house in Glenrothes for 33 days as part of the investigation but nothing came of it. Mr Bryant later voiced fears that his son had been in contact with a crime gang weeks before he vanished. He told The Sun this week: 'We believe he went to a houseparty, something happened at a houseparty.' He said on studying the CCTV from the nightclub, it's clear Allan heads in a different direction than if he were going home. Mr Bryant believes those who may have witnessed what happened to his son remain too scared to speak to detectives. 'I believe that without a doubt. We just need that one bit of the jigsaw… everything stems from there,' he said. Mr Bryant and his family moved out of the home they'd lived in with Allan in 2018, but still regularly use the same local shops and haunts. He feels the mystery over his son's death has created a dark cloud over the town, with people avoiding him and even 'stare at Allan's mum' without speaking. The dad claims one person - who he believes witnessed his son's death - has told people while drunk: 'I know what happened to Allan.' Mr Bryant - who has been supported by charity Missing People - said he's met other families in the same position as him, admitting 'it takes its toll'. 'Some families just can't do it,' he continued. 'You're tired and you have bad nightmares. It's like you're digging up skeletons because it's going to be bones we find. 'It takes four to five months for a human body to decompose. 'These thoughts go through your head and it's hard to sleep. Some days are harder than others. It's just getting harder and more difficult.' Mr Bryant said Allan would sometimes stay out for a couple of days at a time, but he always kept his parents informed about where he was. His phone had been smashed a couple of weeks before his disappearance and he hadn't got round to getting a replacement when he went on what was a Saturday night out with pals over the Halloween weekend. Mr Bryant said Allan had his number memorised so would often call off his friends' phones. 'It was weird, I always knew where he was, he'd always let me know - this time when we woke up on the Sunday morning I said 'I've got a feeling something's not right'. 'We just felt something was really wrong. We held out for a day and then we reported him missing on the Monday. 'I just knew in my gut something bad had happened.' On the Saturday evening, Mr Bryant said Allan was 'in a really really happy mood'. He had some of his friends over for pre-drinks before they headed out to an engagement party at Leslie Golf Club on the outskirts of town, and then to the nightclub. 'The last time I talked to him he was about to leave the house, he was with a few friends having a drink,' Mr Bryant recalled. 'I preferred them sitting in the house rather than on the streets. Sometimes I could sit with them and have a laugh. 'He came downstairs all happy. He asked me for some money to go to an engagement party. He was in a really really happy mood.' Mr Bryant said he later spoke to a barman working at the golf club who said he had refused to sell Allan another alcoholic drink as he seemed too intoxicated. He said Allan had instead politely asked for a pint of water. Mr Bryant said his son's bedroom was left as it was for a while but eventually it was cleaned. 'It wasn't in the best state,' he joked, as Allan and his pals had left empty beer cans. 'It took a wee while.' One of Allan's sisters took a piece of the wallpaper from the bedroom when the family eventually moved out, and they kept some of his things, including his beloved Celtic top. Mr Bryant said he feels that police have been difficult ever since Allan vanished. 'They will only give me so much information because I don't think they trust me,' he said. He claims sniffer dogs have never been used and the family even had to hire professionals themselves to scour an area for Allan's remains after a tip off. Mr Bryant continued: 'I had to fight to get the CCTV released. Any other missing person case that would be released straight away. 'I was told it was data protection. I think it would be different if Allan was a woman. If he was a 23-year-old woman in a nightclub it would be released straight away. 'He was just a guy on a night out.' Mr Bryant added: 'I don't know if we'll ever find the truth but you've always got to hope, hold onto that bit of hope. 'I just need to keep Allan's photo out there so people don't forget about him.' A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Allan Bryant remains a missing person and officers continue to make enquiries to trace him. "Any new information will be assessed and anyone who can assist should call Police Scotland on 101.' 'It is difficult to look back at it though.' Advertisement Sophie said just going into Allan jr's old bedroom after he went missing was hard for all of them. 'I think we left it for quite a while,' she said. 'We couldn't get rid of his stuff. We've still got it.' She said it was also hard moving house - the family have moved twice since 2013 - and she worried for a while if her brother were still out there he wouldn't know where to find them. Outside of her home life, Sophie has had to shoulder a lot over the years, including the often unwanted attention she receives from people in the town. At school she became known essentially as the girl whose brother disappeared. Advertisement 'Even people I didn't know would come up to me, talking about it and asking if I'm his sister,' she said. 'There were always stupid rumours,' she continued. 'Just in high school you'd hear people say they've found him in a ditch - things that aren't true, but it's hard to hear. 'It really affected my anxiety when I heard that.' While she preferred to try and ignore the attention, Sophie remembers confronting someone who was making light of her brother's disappearance. However, she plans to return eventually to study psychology. One thing that has always allowed her some peace is riding horses at a local stables. 'That seems to calm me down,' she said. 'I've made a lot of friends there. 'I started when I was 13, I started quite late,' she added laughing slightly. 'Horse riding helps me focus on what I'm doing.' Advertisement Last week, Sophie posted on Facebook for the first time about Allan jr. 'I've been putting it off for a long time and as I'm older now it just makes sense to write a post,' she wrote. The post goes on to say she 'couldn't fully comprehend' her brother's disappearance at the time, adding: 'The effect it has had on the full family is devastating, I can't even put into words how heartbroken we all are.
