QU's CBE achieves advanced level worldwide in Impact Rating 2025 edition

The College of Business and Economics (CBE) at Qatar University (QU) has been recognised for its societal impact and commitment to sustainability as part of the sixth edition of the Positive Impact Rating (PIR), launched on 10 June 2025, at the PIR Global Summit 2025 and acknowledged during the UN PRME Global Forum.
The CBE at QU is one of the 86 business schools from 30 countries participating in this year's edition, which saw a record engagement of 17,167 student responses, a 13% increase from the previous year. The school achieved Level 4 out of 5, making it a transforming institution within the PIR framework.
The PIR is a global, student- and faculty-cantered initiative that assesses business schools' dedication to sustainability and ethical practices. This year's survey evaluated 86 leading business schools across 30 countries, reflecting students' recognition of their schools' contributions to social and environmental impact. With a score of 4 out of 5, the CBE has been classified as a 'Transforming School,' highlighting its commitment to energizing, educating, and engaging students with purpose—and to developing competent, socially responsible graduates who strive to make a positive impact in society.
Participants evaluated how the college addresses societal and sustainability challenges and how well it prepares its students to become responsible leaders. The data collection was organized and led by student representatives who distributed the survey to the college students.
By participating in PIR 2025, business schools demonstrate their commitment to transparency and to listening to the voice of their key stakeholders. Prof. Rana Sobh, dean of the CBE, commented, 'This recognition reflects our commitment to developing responsible leaders and creating sustainable impact through business education.
'At the CBE at QU, we are proud to be shaping the future by embedding ethics, responsibility, and sustainability at the heart of everything we do. This achievement reinforces what we continuously strive for—our motto: 'Education with Impact.'
The PIR uses 20 questions grouped into seven dimensions across three overarching areas: Energizing, Educating, and Engaging. These results place schools into one of five levels, three of which are published: Level 3 (Progressing), Level 4 (Transforming), and Level 5 (Pioneering).
Prof. Thomas Dyllick, PIR founder and member of the Supervisory Board, stated, 'While future students now have an alternative source to select their business school, schools refer to the PIR primarily to measure and communicate their transformational progress. The voice of the student has become a true source of value.'
The PIR was initiated by a coalition of business school experts and international NGOs such as WWF, Oxfam, and UN Global Compact and is supported by student organizations including oikos, AIESEC, and Net Impact. It is also backed by VIVA Idea (Costa Rica), the Institute for Business Sustainability Foundation, and FehrAdvice (Switzerland).
New in 2025, PIR now also offers additional reporting modules to support schools in their PRME, AACSB, and EQUIS accreditation processes, enabling them to use PIR data to report on Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability (ERS) requirements with stakeholder-derived evidence.

Qatar underscores global economic role at SPIEF
Tribune News Network Doha Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Sayed headed the delegation of Qatar at 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025), held in Russia on 18-21 June 2025 – bringing together heads of government, senior officials, private sector leaders and experts from worldwide. Qatar's participation highlights its leading economic position on regional and international levels and aims to underscore the attractive investment environment available for foreign investment. The delegation shed the light on the key investment incentives, advantages, and initiatives steered to support the private sector and enhance the competitiveness and diversification of national economy under Qatar National Vision 2030. The minister of state took part in the forum's plenary session attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin alongside prominent political and economic figures and global decision-makers. He also participated in a high-level panel discussion entitled 'In Search of New Growth Drivers: Redesigning the Global Financial and Trade Framework,' alongside senior officials including Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Finance of Russian Federation Anton Siluanov, Chairman and CEO of VTB Bank Andrey Kostin, Chairman and President of the African Export-Import Bank Benedict Okey Oramah, Founder of RUSAL, GAZ Group, and the Volnoe Delo Foundation Oleg Deripaska and Yaroslav Kuzminov, and Yaroslav Kuzminov, Academic Supervisor at the Higher School of Economics (National Research University). The minister of state delivered remarks highlighting Qatar's pivotal role in promoting innovation and scientific research as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth. He underscored the importance of Qatar's research, development, and innovation strategy 2030, which seeks to catalyse institutional transformation and advance key national priorities, such as food security, healthcare, energy, technology and logistics. He emphasised that Qatar fosters an ecosystem in which the public and private sectors are encouraged to adopt advanced technological solutions that enhance efficiency, strengthen competitiveness, and drive entrepreneurship—particularly within prioritysectors. He also underscored the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a successful model of regional integration, highlighting its harmonised economic systems and policies, and shared infrastructure and services. He noted that the GCC continues to make steady progress towards full economic integration, further strengthening its position as a prominent global financial and investment hub. He stated that GCC's aggregate GDP reached approximately $2.2 trillion, ranking it ninth globally, while its capital markets hold the seventh position worldwide by market capitalisation, accounting for 4.3 percent of global markets. The non-oil sector contributed 75.9 percent of the region's GDP in 2024. Al Sayed also highlighted Qatar's success in advancing a digital economy, underpinned by its robust infrastructure and adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. He noted that this enables Qatar to keep pace with global transformations and position itself as a leader in the knowledge economy. On the sidelines of the forum, he held bilateral talks with Maxim Markovich, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, and Andrey Kostin, chairman and CEO of VTB Bank. The meetings explored prospects for cooperation in various fields and the incentives, legislation overhaul, and promising opportunities Qatar offers to encourage foreign investment. He also toured the forum's accompanying exhibition, including the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain, this year's guest of Honour, and several other exhibitors. He was briefed on the latest services and innovations in sectors such as industry, financial services and insurance, information technology, healthcare, education and science, business consultancy, telecommunications, logistics and transport, real estate, hospitality and tourism, and metals and mining. British & Irish Lions soar to Australia on special QA flight ahead of 2025 tour

Members of the squad and management team, led by Head Coach Andy Farrell, boarded the aircraft from Dublin Airport's North Runway, following their warm-up fixture against Argentina at Aviva Stadium. QF's Mehnaty and Al Meydan programmes create pathways to purposeful careers for students

Through internship programmes like Mehnaty and Al Meydan, university students are gaining practical, hands-on experience that complements their academic journeys – and prepares them for an ever-evolving job market. Available to QF university students, Mehnaty is a work-study programme offering part-time, paid opportunities for students to contribute to QF centres and departments, while Al Meydan is an internship programme that places students in hands-on roles related to their fields of study, giving them valuable professional experience. Ahmad Kareem, head of Student Support and Outreach, Higher Education Division, QF, said: 'What makes these programmes so powerful is Qatar Foundation's unique ecosystem, which consists of a shared campus bringing together several world-class universities, leading research institutes, startup incubators, and corporate entities. This close proximity has created an environment students can seamlessly connect with a diverse range of internship and work-study opportunities, without ever leaving campus. 'Through this setting, both programmes aim to equip students with practical experience and professional readiness, foster initiative and a strong work ethic, and develop local talent across a wide range of sectors.' Roles available through Mehnaty and Al Meydan span a wide range of fields, including administrative support, research assistance, communications, event coordination, IT and digital innovation, creative design, library services, and sustainability-focused projects. Maryam Mostafawi, a student at QF partner university Northwestern University in Qatar, participated in the Al Meydan initiative and spent three months working in the Multimedia Department within QF's communications team. 'It was like the first time I'd ever worked in a formal setting, so it really helped me build the confidence I needed. I obviously need confidence to work, but I also needed it at university. Now, I'm more comfortable sharing my opinions and speaking in public,' said Mostafawi. 'I also learned how a department operates and how a creative team functions. Beyond that, I gained real, practical skills – like conducting in-depth research, using Excel, and carrying out interviews.' Mostafawi explained that the internship also played a pivotal role in shaping her future path, reaffirming her desire to pursue a career in a creative field with the goal of eventually teaching – inspired by the influence of her advisor. Abdullah Alokar, a student at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, participated in the Mehnaty programme, working in the Outreach and Initiatives Department within QF's communications team. 'My internship was transformative in developing my professional capabilities. The experience enhanced my ability to work effectively under pressure and thrive in team-based environments, while the communication-focused nature of the role strengthened my interpersonal skills,' Alokar said. 'Under the exceptional mentorship of Leena, I discovered my passion for this career path and gained valuable insights from her expertise. The constant interaction with diverse individuals prepared me perfectly for my current position, where relationship-building and communication remain central to my daily responsibilities. This internship laid the foundation for my professional growth and continues to influence my approach to work.' According to Kareem, Mehnaty and Al Meydan play a key role in QF's vision of producing graduates who are capable, confident, and ready to contribute meaningfully to Qatar's development and the wider world. 'In essence, the QF ecosystem is not just a place of learning - it's a dynamic launchpad where students become professionals, innovators, and leaders,' he said.
