After 31 days of testimony and four days of deliberation, Karen Read's retrial has come to an end. Today, jurors found Read not guilty of second-degree murder in the death of John O'Keefe, as well as not guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. She was, however, found guilty of operating under the influence of liquor, a charge for which she was sentenced to one year probation.

Fmr. Coast Guard lieutenant threatened to kill Trump, FBI says
A former U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant who has identified himself as a member of Antifa was arrested on Monday and charged for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump. According to Fox News, charges have been filed against former Lieutenant Peter Stinson, a Virginia resident who served in the Coast Guard from 1988 to 2021. The outlet noted that Stinson was also a sharpshooter and a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) instructor. In the court documents obtained by Fox News, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) task force officer claimed that Stinson allegedly threatened on May 9 that Trump needed to be '[L]uigied,' in an apparent reference to Luigi Mangione, who allegedly assassinated United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December. According to court documents, Stinson allegedly posted violent threats against Trump on multiple social media platforms. The former Coast Guard lieutenant's threats included guns, knives, and poisoning against the 47th president. Court documents claim that Stinson issued a threat against Trump in April of 2020 in response to a social media user who tweeted, 'Somebody ought sue [Trump's] a– off.' Stinson allegedly answered the social media user, saying, 'Somebody ought to do more than sue the orange mf's a–.' Stinson allegedly added, 'It involves a rifle and a scope, but I can't talk about it here.' Who wants to join me? We could solve the solvable part of this problem in a crack. Then, we can focus on the coronavirus itself.' The court documents also claim that Stinson referenced '8647' multiple times in his alleged threats against Trump. Officials claim that Stinson's use of '8647' is 'likely in reference to an Instagram post made by former FBI Director James Comey.' 'The post by Comey was interpreted in the news media as a violent threat to President Trump and prompted an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service,' court documents state. 'STINSON has since made 13 additional posts on Bluesky including the text, '8647'.' According to the court documents, Stinson's most recent threatening post was shared on June 11 on BlueSky when he allegedly wrote, 'When he dies, the party is going to be yuge.' In addition to Stinson's alleged threats against the 47th president, court documents claim that the former Coast Guard lieutenant has 'self-identified as a member of ANTIFA' and issued a February statement on social media, saying, 'Sure. This is war. Sides will be drawn. Antifa always wins in the end. Violence is inherently necessary.' According to Fox News, Stinson has been charged with threatening to kill Trump and is currently expected to appear in federal court on Wednesday.

US Attorney for NY John Sarcone claims knife-wielding illegal migrant who threatened him ‘was going to kill somebody'
US attorney for New York John Sarcone claimed Friday that a knife-wielding illegal Salvadoran migrant who was charged with threatening to slit his throat was 'going to kill somebody' if he didn't step up to help get him off the streets. Sarcone, the President Trump-appointed US attorney for the Northern District of New York, allegedly encountered a 'crazy' Saul Morales-Garcia — a previously deported illegal migrant from El Salvador — outside the Hilton Hotel in Albany on Tuesday night. Detailing the encounter, Sarcone said Morales-Garcia, 40, aggressively lunged at him multiple times on the street while screaming in a 'foreign language' before he gestured he would slice his throat. Then out of the corner of my eye, he starts coming towards me. I turned, I look at him. I still don't say anything and then he pulls a knife out. He is screaming at me and then he charges at me,' Sarcone recalled. Sarcone said he started running to the hotel lobby before the alleged perp suddenly stopped and started walking away. A screaming Morales-Garcia then allegedly charged at Sarcone yet again while making a throat-slitting gesture at Sarcone with the blade. Advertisement 'I felt an obligation to the public as the chief Federal law enforcement officer in the district that includes the city of Albany,' Sarcone said in a statement in the wake of the alleged ordeal. 'I feared for my life but I couldn't let this individual harm and potentially kill others.' Morales-Garcia was taken into custody immediately after cops arrived on the scene, prosecutors said. 3 Saul Morales-Garcia, 40, was charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly threatening to slit the throat of US Attorney John Sarcone. The alleged attempted slasher has been in the US illegally since 2021 after previously being deported. He has a criminal rap sheet in at least three other states outside New York, according to prosecutors. Sarcone said Gov. Kathy Hochul had called him in the wake of the alleged attack after GOP lawmakers started blasting the state's sanctuary city laws. 'She was very sympathetic and concerned and I said 'these sanctuary cities aren't working',' he said of the phone call with Hochul. He was remanded without bail following an initial hearing in Albany City Court.

Highland Park police shoot, kill man armed with knife during well-being check
Police in Highland Park, Illinois, shot and killed a man they said was armed with a knife during a well-being check early Friday morning. According to Highland Park officials, officers conducted a well-being check of a man in the roadway in the 900 block of Half Day Road just before 5 a.m. Police said the man "quickly charged at officers with a knife," prompting officers to fire shots. The Highland Park Fire Department arrived minutes later and tried to help stabilize the man. Officials said life-saving measures were not successful, and the man died on the scene. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting an independent investigation. The area will remain closed between Western and Compton avenues due to police activity. This is a developing story.
