Banaganapalle (Nandyal district): Roads& Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy on Saturday laid foundation stone for a series of infrastructure development and renovation works at Banaganapalle Government Degree College.
For the past five years, the college has been grappling with inadequate facilities, causing significant hardships for students. To address these longstanding issues, the State government has initiated a comprehensive project worth Rs 4 crore to enhance basic infrastructure and carry out necessary repairs, aiming to give the institution a new lease of life.
Under the leadership of Education Minister Nara Lokesh, the education sector has been accorded top priority, ushering in transformative reforms. As part of the centrally-sponsored PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) scheme, funds amounting to Rs 4 crore have been allocated for the improvement of facilities at Banaganapalle Government Degree College.
To solve the problem of shortage of classrooms in line with the increasing students' strength, a new building is being constructed with G+1 design, comprising six classrooms on ground floor.
The project also includes construction of additional toilets for both male and female students.
To prevent recurring theft incidents due to the absence of a boundary wall, a 500-metre compound wall will be constructed to enhance campus security.
The development works also cover renovation of existing buildings and provision of new furniture, ensuring a comprehensive upgrade of learning environments.
Minister Reddy affirmed the government's commitment to complete these works at the earliest possible time, setting a clear target to finish the entire project by Sankranti next year.

Diversion road collapses, disrupts traffic in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: The diversion road of the under-construction Baunsajora bridge on the Kanjipani–Kuntala road in Keonjhar district collapsed on Sunday, disrupting traffic throughout the day. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Due to the high water flow, the bridge could not be repaired, cutting off communication between Telkoi and Jagmohanpur (NH 49). According to sources, the road near Lokanathpur village, built by the Public Works Department (PWD), was damaged after heavy rains over the past two days. As a result, connectivity from Telkoi to Jagmohanpur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Rourkela was severed. More than 20 villages in Telkoi block, including Chhamunda, Binjabahal, and Jagamohanpur panchayat, have been cut off from the block headquarters. Emergency services have also been affected. "People are facing unprecedented problems. Passenger buses and other vehicles are plying on a narrow road through Dobalapal and Chhamunda," said Chinmay Sahu, a local. Locals have urged the district administration to act immediately. PWD officials visited the site after the road collapse. "The road will be repaired soon," said junior engineer Nihar Nayak. Residents blamed the PWD for negligence and poor-quality diversion work. A total of Rs 29.39 crore was sanctioned for constructing two bridges over Hanumantia Nala and Baunsajhari Nala and improving a 12-km stretch from Telkoi to Nampashi in Angul district. However, slow progress in construction has led to the current crisis.

With this, the management of the ghats will soon be handed over to the organisation. Dashashwamedh Ghat, located along the Ganga in Daraganj, and Arail Ghat, situated on the banks of Yamuna in Naini, were recently given a major facelift by the irrigation dept as part of preparations for the upcoming Maha Kumbh. The revamp included structural strengthening, beautification, and improved access for pilgrims. Under this initiative, the organisation will carry out further beautification of both sites at its own expense. Each ghat will see an initial investment of Rs 1 crore.
