Unlike other end-of-season awards, this award is voted on by NHL general managers, executives, and a select group of media following the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, placing importance on both regular-season performance and post-season success.

Kevin Cheveldayoff guided the Winnipeg Jets to their strongest regular season in team history, winning the Presidents' Trophy with a 56-22-4 mark and 116 points.
Last season's first-round playoff failure served as the catalyst for Cheveldayoff to rebuild behind the bench, again advancing Scott Arniel — this year a Jack Adams Award finalist — and supplementing at the trade deadline with Brandon Tanev and Luke Schenn.
While the Jets fell to Dallas in six games, Cheveldayoff's regular-season master plan received league-wide acclaim.
In the meantime, Jim Nill is chasing a third straight GM of the Year Award win.
His Dallas Stars reached the Western Conference Final for the third consecutive year and dispatched Cheveldayoff's Jets in Round 2. Nill took big bets at the trade deadline, acquiring Mikko Rantanen — now the NHL's top playoff point scorer — and committing to him on an eight-year extension. He also brought in veterans Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci, both of whom have played a part in the Stars' playoff success.
In the Panthers' own backyard, Bill Zito continues to cement his place as one of the best players in the NHL.

The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers last season held the Eastern Conference Final position again, and they lead Carolina 2-0. Despite free-agent losses of several of its key players — Brandon Montour and Anthony Stolarz among them — Zito reloaded with under-the-radar acquisitions such as Jesper Boqvist and Tomas Nosek, then acquired larger deadline bargains in Seth Jones and former Boston captain Brad Marchand.

This is the third consecutive season that Nill and Zito are finalists, and both have established strong positions again. Nill is the leader among active GMs with two Jim Gregory Awards, and Zito has been up for the award consecutively three times, the second-most since 2009-10, when the award began.

Her touching farewell post, filled with special memories and moments with fellow Stars families, struck a deep chord across the NHL world and turned their goodbye into a viral moment. Alexis Marchment says goodbye to Dallas in emotional post The NHL offseason has brought plenty of shakeups, but few were as emotional as Mason Marchment's trade from the Dallas Stars to the Seattle Kraken earlier this week. As the forward prepares for a new chapter in Seattle, his wife Alexis Marchment (Lexy) took to social media on Friday to share a touching farewell to the city and team that became home for the past three years. In a carousel of Instagram photos, Alexis shared personal highlights from their time in Dallas, including behind-the-scenes moments with fellow Stars families, locker room celebrations, Halloween memories, and playoffs traditions. Her caption was short but heartfelt: 'Thanks for the mems, Dallas.' The post struck a chord not just with fans, but with other NHL families. Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger's wife, Kennedi, replied with a comment that summed up the sentiment shared across the Stars' circle: 'Crying all over again.' In exchange for Marchment, the Dallas Stars received a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in 2026, a move that helps clear cap space while giving Seattle some added firepower up front. Beyond Mason's on-ice performance, what truly resonated in Lexy's post was the tight-knit bond among the Stars' player families. One standout image showed Alexis posing alongside other partners in matching playoff jackets, a visual nod to the deep team culture in Dallas. What's next for the Marchments in Seattle? As the Seattle Kraken prepare for the 2025 NHL season, they'll be welcoming a player who brings energy, experience, and a strong presence in the locker room. Matthew Tkachuk emotional gesture for wheelchair-bound fan into Panthers' victory parade is winning hearts
Tkachuk's heartfelt parade moment with superfan steals spotlight (Image via: Getty Images) During the Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup victory parade, Matthew Tkachuk made headlines for more than just hockey. He invited longtime fan Cesar Lucero, who lives with a rare bone condition, to join the celebration. The gesture quickly went viral and added a personal, emotional highlight to the Panthers' second straight championship win. Matthew Tkachuk 's touching gesture goes viral at Panthers parade In a moment that transcended hockey, Florida Panthers superstar Matthew Tkachuk paused the championship celebrations to recognize a fan who has endured more than most — Cesar Lucero, a motivational speaker, high school football coach, and lifelong Panthers supporter battling osteogenesis imperfecta. "My escape from all the pain and suffering was watching sports,' Lucero shared in 2024, describing how his love for the Panthers gave him strength through his toughest days. The Florida native, who's supported the Cats since 1996, finally saw his team lift the Stanley Cup not once, but twice and this time, he got to be part of the celebration in the most unforgettable way. During the Panthers' 2025 championship parade on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Tkachuk spotted Lucero along State Road A1A. Without hesitation, the NHL All-Star stopped the flow of the parade to invite Lucero in his wheelchair into the celebration. The moment, captured in X (formerly Twitter) post, lit up social media: 'One of many awesome moments from today. @TKACHUKycheese_ noticed @BigCeaz and immediately came over to let him into the parade. Game knows game!' Lucero missed the 2023 playoffs after falling into a coma caused by complications from surgery. But in 2024, he was back on his feet and wheels to witness the Panthers win their first-ever Stanley Cup. 'Seeing them win the Stanley Cup was something I've never dreamed about. Just so much emotion,' Lucero said after last year's win. Now, seeing the Cats defend their title in 2025, the emotional payoff is beyond words. And with Matthew Tkachuk by his side this time, the moment became even more unforgettable. Back in May, CBS Sports even dubbed Lucero the 'secret weapon' behind Florida's playoff magic. And while NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette — a Maple Leafs fan — tried mocking the Cats throughout their run, Lucero had the last laugh as Florida eliminated Toronto again. Tkachuk wins over Coach Maurice with more than just goals Interestingly, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice once admitted he 'hated' Tkachuk when coaching the Winnipeg Jets. 'And then you meet him and go, 'My God, what a wonderful human being,'' Maurice later confessed. This latest gesture may have further cemented Tkachuk's place in the hearts of fans and perhaps, even in Coach Maurice's long-term vision. Also Read: Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner projected to land record-breaking $14M NHL contract While the celebration had its share of jabs at the Edmonton Oilers including a cheeky sushi order mocking the Oilers' Game 5 reservations, it was Tkachuk's act of compassion that elevated the parade to something truly memorable. Because in the end, championships come and go, but moments like this endure forever. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here . The team's electrifying 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 on Tuesday night officially sealed their championship run, but the celebrations were just beginning. Panthers enforcer Sam Bennett has one savage message for fans who call their play 'dirty' Thousands of fans lined the streets to cheer on their hockey heroes as players danced, shouted, and partied their way down the beachfront. It wasn't just a moment of celebration—it was a statement. Florida's reign over the NHL isn't a fluke. It's a culture. No one embodied that bold spirit more than forward Sam Bennett. Fresh off a phenomenal postseason run that saw him net 15 goals, Bennett didn't hold back when he took the microphone during the parade. The playoff MVP had a fiery message for critics who label the Panthers as overly aggressive on the ice. 'A lot of people don't like the way we play. They call us dirty. They call us nasty. They call us bullies,' Bennett shouted, rallying the crowd. 'So I would like to take this time to apologize to absolutely f------ no one. We are the double champs. We do what the f--- we want. Let's go!' His words sent fans into a frenzy and added another unforgettable moment to an already legendary championship celebration.
