Former BIGBANG Member T.O.P Spotted On Emmy Awards Nomination Ballot For 'Squid Game' Role

Despite the controversy surrounding former BIGBANG member T.O.P's (Choi Seunghyun/최승현) hiatus from the music industry, fans are slowly getting glimpses and pockets of appearances by the popular rapper returning to the entertainment industry very soon. Not only is he on schedule to release a solo comeback album, but T.O.P could very well be racking up awards for a successful acting career.
The ballot for Emmy nominations was announced last week on 12th June 2025 (Thursday), which included T.O.P under the 'Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series' category. The star is looking to be nominated for his role as Thanos in 'Squid Game' Season 2. Fellow 'Squid Game' actors Lee Byunghun (이병헌) and Park Sunghoon (박성훈) were also listed under the same category, marking the show's casting success.
Despite a trail of controversies regarding his character in the popular Netflix series, fans were swayed by T.O.P's charming nature in 'Squid Game', which could earn him an Emmy nomination in the near future. Other notable ballot nominees in the same category include Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen (House of the Dragon), Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick (Severance) and John Lithgow as Harold Harper (The Old Man).
Fans were clearly excited over the news, with most comments congratulating him on the nomination campaign. Fans have also pointed out that the nomination ballot could be thanks to his appearance at FYSEE LA Squid Game panel on 30th May 2025 with Twitter user @/etttorphine commenting, 'That Choi Seunghyun emmy nominee campaign and I know he's smart and will use the opportunity to hint CSH1 since he already said new music in 2025″. The fact was proven to be true following his solo comeback album spill last Friday (13th June 2025).
The Emmy nomination-round voting is now open until 23rd June 2025. As we wait for assembly members to announce the successful nomination on 15th July 2025, we wish T.O.P. and his fellow 'Squid Game' cast members the best of luck!

When creating your own pieces, taking inspiration and blatantly copying another person's work walks a fine line, and if you're not careful, you might be labelled as a copycat. Yesterday (19th June 2025), TXT's (투모로우바이투게더) creative director, known as Minchae, posted a series of her past projects featuring TXT's Beomgyu (최범규) more on her Instagram stories, which netizens have speculated to be a jab at CRAVITY's (크래비티) 'Dare To Crave' new concept photos. After all the uploads, the creative director then shared a photo of a coffee cup, overlaid with the caption: 'Authenticity & sincerity.' It is known that the creative director behind CRAVITY's recent rebranding is also TXT's former visual director, who goes by the alias Rakta. After CRAVITY's 'Dare To Crave' concept photos were released on Tuesday (17th June 2025), netizens quickly pointed out striking similarities to the creative direction used in TXT Beomgyu's 'Panic' project, sparking major backlash and accusations of plagiarism. Twitter user @/crvtty commented, 'Wow… so the creative team behind CRAVITY's rebranding and Dare To Crave concept is Rakta's team? She was TXT's visual director!' Others expressed disappointment over the apparent copying of concepts, while also defending CRAVITY from direct blame. Twitter user @/52amurak wrote, 'Using the same photographer doesn't mean you can just copy Beomgyu's idea. Panic is his story, and I don't see the link between a personal story and another boy group. According to the latest projections, by 2026, American adults will devote only 39% of their daily screen time to linear television. This decline confirms the profound shift in usage, driven by streaming, mobility and people's changing relationship with screens. For decades, traditional television has set the pace for North American evenings. Today, it is slowly slipping into the background. According to Statista, the time US adults spend watching traditional television each day will account for only 39% of their screen use in 2026. This gradual but relentless decline, which began several years ago, shows no signs of slowing. A diversity of screens This decline doesn't mean that Americans are spending less time on screens. Quite the opposite. Smartphones, tablets and computers have taken over, driven by an ever richer, more fluid, and more mobile offering of on-demand content. "Young people around the world have been especially quick to adopt smartphone-based video streaming habits meaning that television screen time will likely fall even further in the future," explains Statista. Whether it's watching a Netflix show on the subway, a TikTok video between meetings or a YouTube documentary in bed, viewing habits have changed. While younger generations are the quickest to abandon conventional linear television, they are no longer alone. Even the over-50s are increasingly turning to streaming services. Whether you know him as Sofyank96 or by his real name, Sofian, the local visual effects (VFX) artist has certainly come a long way since his early days of content creation. With an impressive résumé that includes producing spectacular promotional videos for films and collaborations with Hollywood stars such as Paul Rudd and Tom Cruise, there's little doubt that the 28-year-old is well on his way to achieving his dream of making it big. It looks like he'll be adding another Hollywood collaboration to his portfolio. Earlier this week, the local content creator teased his followers that he was heading to the Philippines to work on a promotional video with a very 'super' actor, who is set to release his upcoming film later this year. 'I'll be flying to the Philippines to film a new collaboration with an actor from an upcoming superhero film! Any guesses who it is?' Sofian captioned a photo of himself at the airport on Instagram. With several titles announced this year, many speculated it could be either Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' or DC's 'Superman'. However, the answer was officially revealed yesterday (Thursday, 19th June). The Malaysian VFX artist posted a Reel on his Instagram, showing him walking down a street in formal attire while reading a newspaper. Suddenly, beams of light, possibly missiles, appeared in the sky, with one striking a section of the building directly above him and several civilians. Sofian sprang into action, shielding the bystanders from the falling debris with his body before flying off, as the camera panned to reveal the iconic 'S' symbol in the sky. If that wasn't obvious enough, the influencer confirmed the exciting news in his caption, writing: 'I had the opportunity to join the 'Superman' movie junket in the Philippines. Soon, I'll be filming content with Superman himself, David Corenswet. Pray that everything goes smoothly.' As expected, Malaysians expressed their excitement over Sofian's achievement, praising him for representing the country on an international stage. Some even joked that the content creator collaborating with Hollywood stars is akin to Thanos collecting the Infinity Stones in 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame.' Others quipped that it was Superman who was lucky to be meeting Sofian, joking that the iconic 'S' symbol actually stands for the first letter of the Malaysian star's name.
