Elderly couple falls on cratered road, injured
Nagpur: A 68-year-old man and his 58-year-old wife suffered injuries after slipping off their two-wheeler on Sunday while navigating the broken stretch of road outside their home in Aradhana Nagar-1, Manewada-Besa Road. The locals shared disturbing visuals showing crater-sized potholes, stagnant sewage water, and a road surface so eroded that it resembles a dumping yard more than a city street.
The visuals show gaping potholes filled with foul-smelling water, garbage-choked drains, and no motorable path. With monsoon weeks away, residents fear the situation could turn catastrophic.

Nagpur Improvement Trust
(NIT) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Senior officials from NIT and NMC expressed helplessness, stating that the locality was settled in the area meant for gardens and playgrounds. "Hence the residents are being deprived of basic amenities," they said.
The injured have been identified as Vijay Sadashiv Warade (68) and his wife Vandana (58). Their son, Bhushan Warade, a resident of the same locality, has written multiple letters to authorities warning about the deteriorating condition of the stretch between Shivkrupa Nagar and Aradhana Nagar-1.
"My parents had left the house on a two-wheeler when it skidded off loose gravel and water-logged muck. This is not an accident — this is the result of criminal civic negligence," a miffed Bhushan Warade told TOI.
Warade has been writing to Nagpur Improvement Trust since February 2 this year, urging the agency to de-reserve a portion of land (Mouza Manewada, Khasra No. 81/1) that remains tagged in the development plan and has blocked basic infrastructure work. However, NIT's responses dated March 26 and April 21 dismissed the urgency, citing procedural delays and fund constraints.
In his follow-up letters, local residents slammed the hypocrisy, pointing out that similar reservations were lifted in Khamla (Khasra Nos. 82–95) and the land was approved for residential use — a move backed by NIT's own letter. "When it comes to south Nagpur, we're told there's no budget or legal clarity. But in other parts of the city, they bend rules and clear files overnight," he said.
Locals are now demanding that NIT urgently submit a Section 37 proposal to the state govt to lift the reservation and initiate road construction. "If NIT and NMC wait for someone to die before acting, we'll hold them accountable. We deserve dignity and safety, not neglect and excuses," local residents demanded.

Deep trenches at many locations are left unbarricaded, and patchwork left unfinished has turned the stretch into a hazard for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Even Chaudhari, during his visit to the Hanuman Nagar zone office, was appraised by the ex-corporators that despite levying a Rs1 crore fine on contractors entrusted to carry out sewerage network works under the Amrut 2.0 project, the dug-up roads were still not restored. Mango Tree Felled Despite Permit Limits, NMC Seeks FIR Against Doctor
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday asked Ambazari police to register a criminal case against a Dharampeth Extension resident for allegedly cutting down an over 50-year-old mango tree on the pretext of pruning, in violation of the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Preservation & Conservation Act, 1975. In a letter sent on Thursday, NMC garden superintendent Amol Chorpagar urged police to book the resident — reportedly a doctor living in Shanti Niketan Colony — for exceeding the scope of a pruning permit granted by the civic body. "Despite clear conditions, the entire upper crown of the mango tree was removed, leaving only the trunk. This cannot be justified as safety pruning," Chorpagar stated. The doctor submitted an application on June 2, claiming the mango tree was dangerously leaning and sought permission for partial removal along with trimming two adjoining branches. After a site visit, the garden department granted conditional approval on June 10, issuing a permit dated June 13 that listed three non-negotiable conditions: cut only the leaning portion, leave rest untouched, and ensure no obstruction to traffic. Nagpur: City Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal on Friday vowed to unleash bulldozers on illegal properties owned by drug lords as part of the intensified anti-narcotics campaign — Operation Thunder. This first of its kind plan against drug kingpins follows his earlier actions on March 17, when the house of the alleged Nagpur riots mastermind Fahim Khan was demolished, along with parts of unauthorized constructions linked to another rioter, Yusuf Shaikh. Top 50 members of drug cartels are on the police radar. While these demolitions were hailed in some quarters, the High Court labeled them as high-handed, prompting police to adopt a more cautious and legally sound approach in future. Singal has mobilized resources to identify and seize properties, assets, and wealth linked to drug lords involved in interstate narcotics networks.
