Tirupati: RSS (Red Sanders Special) ADJ court on Friday sent a smuggler undergo 5 years imprisonment for smuggling red sanders logs. The court also ordered a penalty of Rs 3 lakh by the smuggler for illegal smuggling of Red Sanders and was arrested under Cr No 56/2018. According to prosecution, the smuggler caught by the RSASTF (Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task force) when he was smuggling red sanders logs in the forest area of Nagapatla East beat, Tirupati division. The smuggler Vijay Kumar, from Tamilnadu was prosecuted in the ADJ court. Narasimha Murthy was the presiding judge and following the conviction he was handed over to the authorities of Nellore Central prison.
Taskforce head L Subbarayudu appreciated the taskforce team who effectively persuaded the case with strong evidence resulting in the conviction of a smuggler.

Ahmedabad: Ahead of rath yatra on June 27, police and security agencies intensified search operations across the city to prevent untoward incidents. In the past month, police teams have seized more than 15 firearms and live cartridges from various locations. Multiple units, including the crime branch and city police, were involved in the operation. A campaign was launched to track down those moving around with weapons. The crime branch and SOG alone seized 10 firearms in the last month. In the past three days, the crime branch recovered three firearms. Separate cases related to illegal liquor and prohibited have also been registered. In Danilimda, a man was found with a country-made pistol. Based on a tip-off, police intercepted the suspect near Shastrinagar bridge. A search led to the recovery of a pistol marked "Made in Japan". The man confessed to purchasing the weapon for Rs 25,000 from an acquaintance in Uttar Pradesh two months ago. In Vatva, a man was caught with one pistol and four live cartridges. He was detained based on a specific lead. A search led to recovery of a country-made pistol and mobile phones. All four were taken into custody. Past records showed that some of them had criminal history, including cases under prohibition law and robbery. Police have registered cases under Arms Act and continue to investigate possible links and sources of the weapons.

NEHU professor suspended after CBI arrest

Shillong: Professor of zoology and dean of School of Life Sciences, North Eastern Hill University, Nirmalendu Saha, has been suspendedin the wake of his arrest by the CBI in connection with a bribery case involving Rs 3.43 lakh recently. "With regards to Prof N Saha's case, according to rules and regulations,he is deemed suspended after 48 hours of custody with CBI. After receiving the communication from CBI, the university is issuing the suspension letter to Prof Saha," a NEHU statement said on Friday. The CBI,Guwahati had arrestedSahaandthe proprietor of a private firm in Guwahati on June 12 during the illegal transaction. A case was registered by the CBI on June 11 againstSaha andPranjal Sharma of Guwahati on the basis of information that the accused private person (proprietor of a firm), while acting in collusion with the professor of zoology and dean of School of Life Sciences, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, and unknown others, indulged in corrupt and illegal practices. This included facilitating the accused professor to obtain undue advantages against award of supply orders of scientific equipment, laboratory items etc and clearance of bills thereof. The CBI had laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed.
