Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner is once again at the center of trade talks. Fans are waiting to see what will happen next. Will he stay in Toronto, or will he be on the move soon? His future has become one of the biggest topics this offseason.
But where could he go if he does leave? A well-known insider just shared a major clue.
NHL insider says Mitch Marner might join a Western Conference team
On the June 12, 2025 episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman talked about the trade rumors surrounding Mitch Marner. The podcast is hosted by Friedman and Jeff Marek and often shares trusted NHL news. During this new episode, Friedman said something that grabbed fans' attention.
'If Mitch Marner leaves Toronto,' Friedman said, 'I think he's going to a Western Conference team.'
Friedman did not name any team in particular. But he shared that the Maple Leafs may not want to trade Marner to an Eastern Conference rival. That means teams like the Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, Seattle Kraken, or Calgary Flames could be possible options. Friedman explained that it's still early and nothing is confirmed, but many in the league believe Toronto may try to move Marner away from the East.
Mitch Marner is 27 years old.

Mitch Marner has not asked for a trade, but talks continue
So far, Mitch Marner has not asked to leave the team. He has not made any public comments about the rumors. According to Sportsnet reporter Luke Fox, Marner's agent, Darren Ferris, said on June 10, 2025, that they are not requesting a trade and are focusing on preparing for the next season.
Still, Toronto fans are unsure. The Maple Leafs lost in the first round of the 2025 NHL playoffs against the Boston Bruins, and many believe the team might make big changes.
'I don't think it's personal,' Friedman added. 'But if a trade happens, it's about what's best for both sides.'

They call us bullies,' Bennett shouted, rallying the crowd. 'So I would like to take this time to apologize to absolutely f------ no one. We are the double champs. We do what the f--- we want. Let's go!' His words sent fans into a frenzy and added another unforgettable moment to an already legendary championship celebration. NHL trade rumors: Noah Dobson drawing serious trade interest from $2.1B Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings are aggressively pursuing Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson (Imagn Images) NHL trade rumors are heating up as the Detroit Red Wings reportedly make a push for Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson. With the 25-year-old entering restricted free agency and seeking a major payday, the Islanders may be open to moving him—and Detroit is among the first teams to inquire. Reports suggest the Red Wings have offered a package including J.T. Compher, Jonatan Berggren, and draft picks. A potential deal could shake up both teams' blue line plans heading into the 2025 season. Islanders may trade Noah Dobson as Red Wings enter talks with major offer Following earlier reports by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that the Islanders were exploring the trade market for their top blueliner, more specifics are starting to surface. According to Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News, Detroit has formally inquired about Dobson's availability, and they've already floated a package in hopes of landing the 25-year-old restricted free agent. — stefen_rosner (@stefen_rosner) Rosner confirmed the interest via X (formerly Twitter), noting, 'The Detroit Red Wings have inquired about New York Islanders pending restricted free agent defenseman Noah Dobson. Reporter Bob Duff cites that Elliotte Friedman stated that Detroit's offer includes forwards J.T. Compher and Jonatan Berggren, with draft picks also likely being part of the discussion.' If accurate, the Red Wings' offer appears to balance veteran experience with young potential—a strategy GM Steve Yzerman has leaned into during Detroit's rebuild. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Noah Dobson's contract demands could be the trade tipping point Dobson is coming off the final year of a three-year, $12 million extension signed in 2022 and is now a pending RFA. What's fueling the trade buzz even more is his rumored contract ask. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, 'We mentioned his initial ask was $11 million per season, which will obviously come in quite lower on the next new deal… But will it be on the Island?' Currently, only Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, and Rasmus Dahlin make $11 million or more per year among NHL defensemen. While Dobson has flashed elite offensive upside—scoring 70 points while logging 23 minutes per game—his price tag and the Islanders' recent draft lottery win may force GM Mathieu Darche to make a bold decision. NHL Rumors: Connor McDavid's Stanley Cup Final struggle may be pushing him toward change
Rumors are circulating that Connor McDavid might leave the Edmonton Oilers (Imagn Images) Rumors are swirling across the NHL after a bold claim made on the 'Spittin' Chiclets' podcast hinted that Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid could be on the move — and not just anywhere, but to the newly crowned Stanley Cup champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Connor McDavid rumored to join Tampa Bay Lightning after crushing Oilers loss sparks trade talk During a recent episode, co-host Matt Murley dropped the bomb: 'There wasn't much detail. It just said that it was a rumor.' Yet, the panel couldn't help but agree that the idea made sense. 'He's gotta be so sick of this media up in Canada,' Murley added, suggesting a move to Florida — a warm, tax-friendly state — might mirror LeBron James' infamous jump from Cleveland to Miami. The chatter picked up momentum when Colby Armstrong chimed in, praising Tampa's playoff dominance: 'They have the weapons to do it … they were like, kind of dialing up for this epic run.' Given the Lightning's consistent Cup appearances — five Finals in the last six years — the speculation suddenly feels a lot less far-fetched. Connor McDavid had a disappointing Stanley Cup Final performance, registering just 7 points and one goal in six games. His struggles culminated in a no-point, -4 showing in the decisive Game 6, where the Oilers' defense collapsed and the Panthers completed their back-to-back Cup wins. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologist: Just Add 1 Drop Of This Household Item To Any Dark Spot And Wait 3 Minutes Undo Coach Kris Knoblauch stood by his captain, saying, 'I've got no issues with his game … he's been one of our best players every single night.'
