Nice shocks PSG and ends champion's hopes of unbeaten Ligue 1 season
PARIS (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain's bid to go unbeaten in Ligue 1 was ruined on Friday when it lost to Nice 3-1.
PSG's first home defeat in almost a year was a shock reverse for a club which clinched the French league title three weeks ago and was shifting its focus to the Champions League semifinal first leg at Arsenal on Tuesday.
Coach Luis Enrique rested several starters but it was still one-way traffic as PSG dominated the early stages.
However, profligate finishing and an inspired performance by Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka kept PSG scoreless.
Nice's Morgan Sanson broke the deadlock when Badredine Bouanani's elegant through ball left him with only Gianluigi Donnarumma to beat and he slipped the ball neatly under the keeper.
Nice's lead, however, lasted only five minutes. PSG's Fabián Ruiz turned inside the box and fired home a neat chip over the defense from Ousmane Dembélé.
Nice did the unlikely again a minute into the second half and once more it was Sanson who did the damage, scoring with a spectacular scissor kick volley.
Even with the introduction of Bradley Barcola, Gonçalo Ramos, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Lucas Beraldo, the home side failed to react and, incredibly, Nice scored again. An unmarked Youssouf Ndayishimiye headed home the third in the 70th.
The win lifted Nice into fourth place, equal on points with Monaco and a point behind second-placed Marseille.

ULM drops women's tennis amid athletic department financial constraints
MONROE, La. (AP) — The women's tennis program at Louisiana-Monroe has been disbanded because of financial constraints at the university's athletic department. Athletic director John Hartwell announced this week that the decision stemmed from 'increased operational and infrastructure costs' and will help ULM athletics 'to continue progress towards balancing its budget' while maintaining an NCAA-required minimum of 16 Division I sports. Under the recently approved NCAA antitrust settlement, scholarship caps will be replaced by roster limits and schools will be able to fund every roster spot with a scholarship. Hartwell said as women's tennis players graduate or transfer, scholarship funds that had been dedicated to them will be redirected to other remaining women's sports teams. ULM spokesman Martin Radosevic the administration also 'worked with a Title IX consultant to ensure we maintained Title IX compliance during this process.' Title IX prohibits discrimination based on gender. For practical purposes, it requires universities to fund athletic scholarships in a way that is proportionate to the number of men and women participating on their varsity sports teams. While the number of women's athletic scholarships funded by ULM won't change, its athletic department will save on other expenses that had gone toward the tennis program — from coaches' salaries to travel, equipment and facility costs. Radosevic said the athletic department expects savings of about $250,000. 'Discontinuing a sport is never an easy decision, nor one that we take lightly,' Hartwell said. 'We know this is tough for our student-athletes and our coaches, who have poured so much into our tennis program." Hartwell said ULM will honor the scholarships of those who want to complete their degrees without transferring elsewhere. He said his administration also will help those tennis players who want to continue to compete to pursue opportunities at other schools. 'We will prioritize as smooth a transition as possible for our student-athletes,' Hartwell said. ___

Diamondbacks catcher Moreno has hairline fracture of finger. Reliever Puk has surgery
DENVER (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno has a hairline fracture in his right index finger and could be sidelined until after the All-Star break. Moreno was injured June 6 in Cincinnati, then played through it for more than a week. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Monday. 'I appreciate what he was trying to do," manager Torey Lovullo said Friday night before the Diamondbacks faced Colorado. "I know that he had some at-bats that he was working through, pain-wise, and they were successful at-bats. He was just gutting it out, but it just became too much.' Star outfielder Corbin Carroll was out for a second straight game because of a contusion on his left hand after he was hit by a pitch Wednesday night in Toronto. X-rays showed no fracture and he was available off the bench Friday night. Meanwhile, left-handed reliever A.J. Puk had surgery on his left elbow Friday. He will miss the rest of the season. The surgery was to determine the condition of the ligament in his pitching elbow and if he would need it replaced. 'If the ligament's still in place, they won't replace the ligament,' Lovullo said. 'They'll just do that external bracing. If the ligament is damaged and they need to put a new ligament in there, yeah, it'll be officially Tommy John surgery.' Carroll was working on the field Friday before the game. 'Corb is much better, trending in a very positive direction. And just want to give him a work day, just try and get out, see how he feels,' Lovullo said. 'The last thing you want to do is put a bat in your hand and have something sting. So he's going to do all that he can. So as of right now, he'll be available for the game, and then we'll hopefully trend upward from there." ___
