Last Updated:
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 picks up from where the original left off, chronicling the journey of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the fierce former jail warden (Rajinikanth).
Rumours were rife that Shah Rukh Khan would make a cameo appearance in Jailer 2, the much-anticipated sequel to Rajinikanth's 2023 blockbuster. However, fans may have to hold off on their excitement. According to an update by the X handle Box Office South India, SRK is not part of Jailer 2 and will not be seen in any role in the film.
While this clarification puts an end to speculation around Shah Rukh Khan, the buzz around Jailer 2 continues, with strong whispers that a prominent Bollywood star is indeed joining the cast. Though the name hasn't been revealed yet, the team is reportedly planning to make a formal announcement soon.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 picks up from where the original left off, chronicling the journey of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the fierce former jail warden played by Rajinikanth. The first film showcased Muthuvel's revenge arc, but later transitioned into a gripping heist thriller, featuring surprise cameos by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff.
The sequel is expected to bring back these characters, with additional star power. Reports suggest that Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna might make a special appearance, while Nagarjuna Akkineni is being considered for the role of the main antagonist, although that hasn't been confirmed yet.
Rajinikanth, last seen in the action drama Vettaiyan, is currently busy wrapping up his next film Coolie with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Scheduled for release on August 14, 2025, Coolie also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni and Upendra Rao in pivotal roles.
Interestingly, while Shah Rukh Khan isn't a part of Jailer 2, Coolie will feature a special cameo by Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, along with appearances by Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and a dance number by Pooja Hegde.
With so many big names in the mix, Jailer 2 is shaping up to be yet another star-studded spectacle. While fans may be disappointed about SRK's absence, the excitement around the film remains sky-high.

Nagarjuna Akkineni on ‘Kuberaa': Overwhelmed by the response
Superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni, who has featured in the Sekhar Kammula directorial Kuberaa, said the good response for the film is an indicator of the team's relentless hard work. Starring Nagarjuna, Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh among others, Kuberaa released on June 20, 2025. Nagarjuna, who portrays Deepak—a man caught in a web of powerplay and moral conflict, spoke about the praise he has received for the movie. 'I'm overwhelmed with the love coming my way for Kuberaa. Deepak will remain one of my most special characters. 'Looking at the audiences' love, the reviews, and the box office response, I am just so touched. I've been fortunate to work across Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films and to get this love today, even after four decades of my career, is truly humbling. I'm proud of what team Kuberaa pulled off, and I am thankful to the entire cast and crew,' the actor said in a statement. The movie, produced by Sree Venkateswara LLP and Amigo Creations, has earned ₹13 crore at the box office on the opening day, according to the portal The Telugu version had an occupancy of 57.36 per cent on Day 1. The Hindu review of the film said, 'The film begins by acknowledging its writer-director's 25-year career, and the title card — Sekhar Kammula's Kuberaa —says it all. Kuberaa is driven by its director and his ambitious tale that does not pander to the starry aura of Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Rashmika Mandanna. 'Sekhar makes them play characters — men and women inhabiting a complex world driven by money, power and greed. The narrative is not perfect. Yet, it is a brave one in the realm of mainstream Telugu cinema, giving viewers plenty to chew on.' He claimed that the original heritage building, known as Villa Vienna, was renamed Mannat and that in 2005, a seven-storey extension was added behind it.
