Netflix hidden gem leaves viewers in tears as it's dubbed 'one of the best films'

Netflix viewers have been left emotionally overwhelmed after discovering a hidden treasure on the platform - a film about a convict who finds purpose in training horses.
The Mustang, released in 2019, garnered critical acclaim. It narrates the tale of Roman Coleman, a violent offender portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, who is serving time in a Nevada prison.
The movie opens with a helicopter herding hundreds of wild mustangs that are to be 'broken' and sold.
Roman has difficulty interacting with people. To keep him occupied before his eventual reintegration into society - after serving a 12-year sentence for an assault on his partner that resulted in brain damage - the prison assigns him the task of training horses.
Each prisoner is allocated a specific horse to prepare for auction within 12 weeks. As he forms a close bond with his horse, Marquis, Roman starts to build friendships through his work with the animal, reports the Irish Star.
The film culminates in a heart-wrenching finale about one man's desperate quest for redemption following a horrific act of violence.
Directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre in their debut feature, who spent five years meticulously researching real-life training programmes involving prisoners and horses, The Mustang received high praise upon its release.
The Guardian said: "Brilliantly, Schoenaerts almost underplays Roman's anger, lumbering slowly like a wounded animal, the downward slope of his eyes conveying a howl of rage. It's an electrifying performance."
With an impressive 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, responses from both film enthusiasts and critics have been overwhelmingly positive towards the movie and its cast.
One said: "The Mustang is a unique character-driven film that is headlined by a jaw-dropping performance by Matthias Schoenaerts."
Another added: "It's an extraordinarily gripping film as it delves into social issues and humanity, cutting into your emotional foundation to see the world in a different light."
Additionally, one observer said: "French filmmaker Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, who also co-wrote, impresses with a feature directorial debut that displays an understanding of film as both craft and poetry. She also displays a reverence and hope for flawed humanity.."
Emotionally charged fans were left in awe by the compelling performances. A fan said: "One of the best films I've ever watched. Matthias Schoenaerts and Bruce Durn are spectacularly authentic. The viewer is sucked into both the situation and the predicaments of the players. Just wonderful."
And yet another added: "This film is a visually beautiful and riveting story pivoting around the cathartic connection between troubled man and wild horse, and the ripple effect from that. I was completely emotionally invested."
One commentator wrote: "Incredibly powerful story of forgiveness, growth, redemption, and finding joy and purpose after tragedy. Amazing performances by all!".

The animated sci-fi film tells the story of 11-year-old boy Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) who dreams of being abducted by aliens after feeling out of place on Earth for so long. He is accidentally beamed up to the Communiverse, an organisation which has representatives from several galaxies, where he is mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador. It currently holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics, but it could become the lowest domestic debut ever for Pixar. Box office reports from Variety show the film grossed $9 million (£6,6M) on Friday across 3,750 locations. It has been predicted that this could mean Elio will fall well behind 2023's Elemental, the film which currently has the lowest domestic debut, at $29M (£21.5M) The critics' consensus for the film could not be further away from its low box office, reading: 'Catapulted by its theme of building self-esteem, Pixar's latest cosmic wonder Elio boasts a fanciful world of original creations to dazzling effect.' 'Elio is another knockout, a quiet but determined shooting star that earns its place in the galaxy,' Tribune News Service wrote. Movie Mom added: 'Pixar's latest has everything we love about Pixar, a heartwarming story with endless imagination, charm, and wisdom, about an endearing character and the fears and joys of being human.' Others, however, pointed out the predictability of Elio's plot, with saying: 'Schmaltzy yet sincere, Elio, the latest from Pixar, is as predictable as they come but as tender as they can get.' Paste Magazine added: 'As a story about children finding a place to belong, discovering their true sense of self and realizing that parents and parental figures love you even when they don't always understand you, Elio is a lovely, if not particularly original story.' The Daily Beast summarised: 'For all its overt '80s homages, there's something timeless about Elio. too. More Trending Speaking ahead of the film's release, Kibreab opened up to Screen Rant about learning he had scored the role of Elio alongside Zoe Saldana who voices Elio's aunt Olga. 'I love all the Pixar movies and I watched them all the time and I still do today. And just to be in one, in an original Pixar movie, is such a pinch-me moment,' he said. For over two years Jules Thomas, the former partner of the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder suspect Ian Bailey, spared her three daughters from the devastating truth that she is suffering from leukaemia. 'I just couldn't bring myself to tell them, to give my girls that worry and upset. I kept it to myself for as long as I could,' she told The Sunday Times. 'Eventually I decided they should know, so I wrote letters at the same time to each of my daughters to tell them.' Thomas now counts herself among the 220 people in Ireland every year who are diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, an incurable, slowly progressing blood cancer. The Welsh-born landscape artist has been embroiled in a legal battle against Netflix for several years. In a long-running High Court case, Thomas claims she was defamed in the three-part documentary series Sophie: A Murder in West Cork. She has alleged that the show, screened in 2021, contains a number of inaccuracies and she also claims in her legal action against the streaming giant and the production company Lightbox Media for injurious falsehood and infliction of emotional suffering. All of these claims are, however, understood to be denied by Netflix and Light Box Media, which are fully defending the action.
