NZ Herald03-06-2025

On Sunday night, popular Tauranga Indian restaurant Castle 91 posted a Facebook video of patrons joyfully singing and dancing at a community event.
Less than 24 hours later, firefighters were battling a blaze in the Greerton Village restaurant's kitchen, as flames spewed from vents in the roof.

Season 2 Of Māori Kids' Web Series 'Te NGz' Goes Live On June 18, 2025

' Te NGz ' are young sisters that live on their family farm in the Far North of Aotearoa. On their web series, they speak te reo Māori (with subtitles) and tackle their chores as they brainstorm and unite to solve dilemmas and overcome the various challenges that they face. Season 2 of their award-winning show is set to be released online on Facebook and YouTube on June 18, 2025. Ngātaitangirua (15) and Ngāwhakamoemiti (12) are back again for more sibling challenges and whānau problem solving. The sisters bring the camera into their lives to give us a glimpse of their world. Ngātai says, "we're back now and we are a little bit older and wiser." As the tuakana (older sister), Ngātai is often called upon to lead the interactions. "I love my teina (little sister) but she can be a bit annoying at times. But I'm also grateful she is open and willing to help me when we need to work together and do tough jobs." The girls' father is Quinton Hita, known for his work on Mai Time, Shortland Street and Nā Wai I Teka. Lovingly known as Papa Q, a passionate mātanga reo (language expert) especially with te reo o Te Tai Tokerau (the northern dialect), he can be seen helping his daughters when they encounter problems that require his guidance. "My children have been truly blessed to grow up on their papakāinga/ancestral home. Being in the country they have had to learn to be resourceful, and find solutions for themselves. This is helping them stand proud in today's world, within their Māori culture and language, as well as opening up ways to explore their own unique personalities so they can grow to be their true selves. For others who share similar dreams for their children, we hope Te NGz can encourage and support them." Te NGz Season 2 will be available on the 'Māori Minute' Facebook page and the Kura Productions' YouTube channel. 12 x 12 minutes episodes will be released weekly from June 18, 2025. Season 1 is currently available on Facebook and YouTube.

Turn Up The Music, Roll Up Your Sleeve - New Zealand Blood Service Drop The Beats For Donation

Every superhero needs a theme tune, but New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) believes the best ones deserve a whole playlist. In celebration of National Blood Donor Week, NZBS has created a series of 'Blood Bangers' and 'Plasma Playlists' on Spotify with the help of some Kiwi legends. 'There are quite a few similarities between the world's most iconic superheroes and blood and plasma donors,' says New Zealand Blood Service's Marketing Communications Advisor, Ximena Smith. 'They're usually anonymous, they're known for being selfless, and most importantly, they save lives. Only 4% of the eligible population in New Zealand are regular donors, but every year they save or improve the lives of more than 30,000 people nationwide.' Timed to roughly last the length of time spent in the chair for either a whole blood or plasma donation, the playlists have been crafted by familiar names such as Tiki Taane, Fat Freddy's Drop, Shapeshifter, Erin Simpson and SYSCA's Lucy Blakiston, amongst others. Blood donors spend at least five minutes in a comfy reclining donor chair, while plasma donors get around 30-45 minutes of pure uninterrupted chill time. This means a donation is the perfect time to sit back, relax, discover some new music or hit play on your all-time favourite tunes. Whilst the big names have gotten the ball rolling, NZBS needs Aotearoa's help to create the perfect musical mix for superhero donors. It wants the guaranteed mood boosters; the slow, the soulful, the sing-alongs, and the downright party anthems. Drop the title of the song you would choose to power you through a lifesaving donation on the latest NZBS Instagram or Facebook post and together let's create the ultimate soundtrack! If you'd like to join NZBS' marvellous donor universe, start saving lives, and have the perfect reason to listen along to some Blood Bangers, check your eligibility or book an appointment by downloading the NZ Blood App, visiting or calling 0800 448 325.
