A four-year-old boy who died after he was knocked down by a car inside a midlands housing estate on Monday evening and just days after celebrating his fourth birthday will laid to rest today.
Abdur Rehman was fatally injured when he was struck by a car only a matter of yards from his home in Mullingar's Farranshock housing estate shortly after 6:30pm.
Despite desperate attempts to save the youngster both at the scene and en route to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital, Abdur passed away a short time later from his injuries.
Locals living in Mullingar's Farranshock housing estate are still coming to terms with the tragic circumstances surrounding Monday evening's incident.
In a post carried on its Facebook page this afternoon, Mullingar Islamic Cultural Society revealed Abdur's funeral will take place today at Mullingar's Mosque or Masjid.
'The funeral for little Abdur will be held today at the Mullingar Islamic Cultural Society,' a spokesperson informed the Sunday World.
In doing so, members of the public are being asked to refrain from visiting the hospital or the family's home in Mullingar.
News surrounding Monday evening's incident has continued to be felt far and wide, emotions that have been exacerbated by the fact little Abdur had only celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday.

Floral tributes continue to be left at the scene of the incident, one of which poignantly read: 'Little man' while surrounded by a sea of other moving messages of sympathy.
It is understood the little boy's parents had only recently celebrated the birth of their second child.
Both originally hail from Pakistan, but have resided in Ireland for a number of years.
Gardaí, meanwhile, are continuing to appeal for witnesses into the incident.
A detailed forensic collision investigation took place and was completed yesterday morning which resulted in a black BMW being towed away from the scene for further examination.

The Sunday World understands he has confided in family and friends that he will seek to make a fresh start outside Northern Ireland. Irvine has said he does not see how he can make a safe return to live in Belfast and is believed to be concerned about his personal security while in prison. John 'Bunter' Graham There had been speculation he could be moved to the wing housing sex offenders and vulnerable inmates. The Sunday World understands there are no plans as yet for that to happen. He is currently being housed on the loyalist wing and an order issued by the UVF's Shankill leadership that he is to be left alone, stands. The majority of UVF prisoners in Maghaberry no longer swear allegiance to the organisation, many of them having been stood down including the five jailed for the murder of Ian Ogle and those serving 30 years for the sectarian murder of schoolboy Thomas Devlin. Sources have told us Irvine feels 'vulnerable'. The consequences of his fall from grace continue to play out. Last week the Sunday World revealed 'Harmless' Harry Stockman is now in the firing line after going behind the back of Chief of Staff John 'Bunter' Graham in an attempt to save Winkie's skin. We now understand the man credited with compiling the internal report, senior veteran loyalist Gerry Vinton has come under suspicion by UVF members. According to sources, secretive Vinton has long been close to Graham and was tasked to compile a dossier into Irvine's behaviour during his time as B Company and commander and subsequently. Vinton has previously denied any involvement in criminality and paramilitarism. Vinton and Irvine were at loggerheads but despite allegedly being the leading architect in Irvine's downfall, there is a feeling he is Bunter's patsy under orders to get rid of a problem and save the UVF leadership from closer inspection. Well placed sources have told us that the membership will not stop at Irvine's expulsion. They want Stockman out and are now questioning the content of Vinton's report. Harry Stockman 'Irvine was thrown aside to save the command staff,' one source told us. 'Vinton was Bunter's eyes and ears, he knew everything and in turn everything Irvine did Bunter and Stockman knew about it because it was lining their pockets. 'If they think getting rid of Irvine is where it ends they've another thing coming. There was nothing independent or objective about this so called report, his mission was to heap it all on Irvine.' The disquiet in UVF ranks could lead to the biggest shake up at the top for years. A vote of no confidence in Stockman has been proposed and question marks hang over the future of Chief of Staff Graham. Alleged Shankill commander Sam Austin is the preferred choice of the rank and file to take the reigns, although others are advocating an Army Council style leadership. Meanwhile this week the PPS have recommended that the sentence handed down to Irvine should be extended. Irvine, 49, from Ballysillan Road in north Belfast, was given a two-and-a-half year sentence last month after admitting to firearm and ammunition offences. The sentence was half the minimum recommended term, with the judge citing 'exceptional circumstances'. The PPS said it will now appeal the sentence. Irvine's sentence – half of which is to be served on licence – was below the minimum sentence of five years and attracted criticism from some politicians. A spokesperson for the PPS told the BBC: 'After careful consideration of the sentence handed down in the case of Winston Irvine, including with the benefit of advices from independent Senior Counsel, we have determined that there is a sufficient legal basis to refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal.' The PPS referral has now been lodged with the Court of Appeal. The sentence must not just be lenient, but must be unduly lenient. During sentencing Judge Gordon Kerr KC said despite Irvine's guilty plea, he had declined to give any explanation to the police or the court for having the guns and bullets in the boot of his car. However, the judge said he did not consider the crimes to be connected to terrorism. The judge cited Irvine's 'character and long-term commitment to peace building in Northern Ireland' among exceptional circumstances relating to the case. The court was told he had worked at the highest levels of government and had 'devoted most of his adult life to peace'. The PPS said it would not be appealing the five year jail term handed to co-accused Robin Workman. The pair were arrested in June 2022 after police intercepted Irvine and their search of his car uncovered a cache of guns and ammunition.

The accused distracted the garda, ran through the back car park, scaled the high perimeter wall and 'made good his escape' A YOUNG man was detained at a Dublin garda station when he escaped from custody after 'distracting' an officer while outside having a cigarette, it is alleged. Michael McGinley (19) ran through a car park, scaled a perimeter wall and was at large for more than eight weeks before he was recaptured and brought before a court today, gardai said. After he was refused bail, the accused pointed at his girlfriend who was in court and said: 'I love this woman here. I will marry her one day. That's all I'll say.' Mr McGinley, of Ringfort Avenue, Balrothery, Co Dublin is charged with escaping unlawful custody at Balbriggan garda station on April 23. Michael McGinley News in 90 Seconds - June 20th At Dublin District Court this afternoon, Detective Garda Colm Fitzpatrick told Judge Mark O'Connell the accused was arrested at a guest house in Athboy, Co Meath yesterday where he was with his girlfriend after booking under a false name. Objecting to bail, Det Gda Fitzpatrick said at the time of the alleged escape, the accused had appeared in Balbriggan District Court on several charges, was refused bail and remanded in custody. He was taken to the garda station to wait until the sitting judge had signed a warrant committing him to prison. Mr McGinley asked if he could go out for a cigarette, his request was acceded to and he was taken out the back of the station, the detective continued. The accused distracted the garda, ran through the back car park, scaled the high perimeter wall and 'made good his escape', the court was told. "He remained at large for eight weeks and one day, knowing he was unlawfully at large and despite his family asking him to hand himself in,' Det Gda Fitzpatrick said. Gardai searched a guest house in Athboy and found the accused in an upstairs bedroom attempting to get dressed and in the company of his girlfriend (18). He had used a false name when signing in and a stolen BMW was parked outside. Applying for bail, defence solicitor Holly Laher said her client was presumed innocent and would abide by bail conditions, including signing on at a garda station and keeping a night time curfew. Mr McGinley, a member of the Travelling community, was supported in court by his mother, partner and older brother. The accused could live with his brother in Wexford if released on bail, Ms Laher said. She asked the judge to take account of her client's young age and the detrimental effect prison would have on him. The garda said no conditions would assuage his fears over granting bail. Judge O'Connell said the risk that Mr McGinley might not attend court 'was an understatement' and refused bail. The judge added that he was 'not impressed by the deportment' of family members in court 'who find it funny.' 'They have been smiling and laughing, as he has been,' Judge O'Connell said. 'It suggests they are not taking this thing seriously at all." The accused was granted free legal aid and remanded in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court next week.

More info An on-the-run teen who escaped from a Garda station in north Dublin and is suspected of committing crimes while being at large has been arrested after he was discovered asleep in an AirBnB in the midlands - with a suspected stolen vehicle outside. The 19-year-old thug - who is a relative of paralysed Drogheda feud mob boss Owen Maguire - is due to appear before the district court in the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning. It's alleged he jumped over the wall at Balbriggan Garda Station on Wednesday, April 23 after he was arrested for alleged criminal offences. He had appeared before Balbriggan District Court earlier that day on charges of burglary, unauthorised taking of a vehicle and theft of fuel from a service station. Bail was refused after the prosecuting garda told the judge "no conditions of bail would be acceptable." While gardai were processing the teen's prison warrant at the garda station, it's believed the thug was allowed outside to have a cigarette but managed to jump the wall of the garda station. He continued to be a fugitive until Thursday, June 19 when he was arrested. It's suspected he continued on a crime rampage - until Thursday - when a number armed gardai from Dublin discovered him in an AirBnB in the midlands. A BMW, suspected of being stolen from outside a property in Mayo, was also discovered outside the property. While on the run, the 19-year-old - who is suspected of committing a number of burglaries and car thefts while on the run - taunted gardai by posting videos of members of the force going about their a statement An Garda Siochana said: "Gardaí investigating the escape from Garda custody of a male, aged in his late teens, on 23rd April arrested the male on Thursday, June 19 who is detained at a Garda Station in Dublin. "He has been charged in relation to this incident and is due to appear before Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court No. 5) on Friday June 20 at 10.30am.
