Music legend Gloria Jones Keynote at Beckenham Conference

Leader Live03-06-2025

Legendary Motown singer-songwriter and composer Gloria Jones famed for her song ' Tainted(*) Love,' (s keynoting at the trailblazing 'Evolution of Finance,' conference aimed at transforming women's relationship with finance at Beckenham Spa on Thursday12th June 2025,( https://www.mytimeactive.co.uk/locations/spa-beckenham
Hosted by the Queen of Connection Jackie Groundsell from the 1230 The Women's Company,
a leading UK's business women's network; the conference is designed to tackle the often tainted relationship which women experience in business finance, investments and long-term wealth building and how all this impacts their relationships and vice versa.

Lessons from a music legend:
Since the age of 17, Gloria has always found a way to stay creative and has been writing songs since 1968.
She has written for Gladys Knight and the Pipps,
Marvin Gaye, the Jackson Five, Diana Ross and many more. She bought her first home at the age of 21, funded by her creativity.
Gloria's advice for women in business:
' As long as you have an idea, as long as you can
create, you can stay afloat. As well as your health and your right mind, and your ideas, and you are creating, and you are living, and when you are excited about life, because that is all in financing'
She believes that only reason people give up is that they cannot deal with change, or they cannot deal with life experiences, women have learned to become stronger now,
' It's having the confidence the knowledge and the experience to take the risk, you can't do any of this if you don't trust yourself to take that risk.
This is why I want to promote hope, and why I am launching a perfume, because I can! ' (**)
Her new perfume called ' Revenge,' out on 7th June.
' Most of the time when you hear the word it sounds negative but I look at it, it's about never giving up and to keep on going! ' Gloria Jones.
Finding deeper meaning with money and life.
Despite all of her incredible creative success when she started to do all of her charity work, it gave her life a deeper meaning and it still does.
She got involved in charity work which helped her to learn how to be human again, after seeing a child eating out of a trash can, and not understanding that that's how that child lives and survives.
When she was in South Africa, and wanted to help the street children, who did not have any food she simply did not know what to do. So she asked her Lawyer who said go to the market and find out the days that they are just throwing away food. She went to the market and they said to her that the spare food was going to the farmer to feed his pigs.
They said to ask the farmer if they would give her a day for her to give the surplus food to the children and they said yes on Wednesdays and that was the start of the Gloria Jones Foundation, in 1990.
Then she travelled to Sierra Leone which she instantly loved, as she saw her family's features and there was such acceptance of her and ten years ago started the Marc Bolan School of Music and Film. Now this year when she went she has 5 college graduates who came to the school when they were ten years of age.
The importance of women helping each other
' We have to encourage each other as women, it's very important, especially in America right now women are really coming together, in sisterhood and at one time it wasn't like that it was like I have to get my own, I hope that the Evolution of Finance Event will go around the world. Financially, women didn't know that we had this power, to acquire money and to build wealth.

Jussie Smollett and his partner reveal big news about their romance... six years after 'hate crime' hoax

Jussie Smollett announced he is engaged to partner Jabari Redd via Instagram on Friday. The 43-year-old former Empire actor — whose 2021 conviction for allegedly faking a hate crime was overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court last year — shared the happy new with his 4.5 million followers in a joint post with his beau. Posting photos from the moment he got down on one knee, he wrote, 'I'll be spending my birthday with my Fiancé… He said YES,' adding a diamond ring emoji. The professional photos, snapped by @artbyalyx, showed the progression of Smollett presenting the ring, Redd's shocked expression, and the couple's subsequent embrace. Jussie's sisters Jazz and Jurnee Smollett were among the many loved ones who offered congratulatory comments. 'Screaming with tears of joy! My whole heart loves both of you. @jussiesmollett. Welcome to the family @jabariredd. ❤️❤️,' wrote Jurnee, 38. View this post on Instagram A post shared by @jussiesmollett Older sibling Jazz, 45, added, 'Yaaaass!!! Welcome to the family Jabari!!! Love y'all!! Sooooo happy for you both!' Meanwhile, his former TV mother Taraji P. Henson wrote, 'MY BABIES ❤️❤️❤️.' The happy couple is fresh off their collaboration on the film The Lost Holliday, which premiered at the 28th annual American Black Film Festival in June 2024. Starring Jabari, Jussie, Vivica A. Fox and more, it was released across select AMC theaters in September. This past May it was made available on Prime. The project is the second project Smollett directed, following 2022's B-Boy Blues. He told People last year, 'It's such a hopeful film.' 'I think that's what I really get from this film for my own life, is that it's so hopeful. It so, "Well, what is the next day going to be like? What is tomorrow going to bring me?" 'It could bring something great, it could bring you something not so great, but it's about what you do with [it].' Jussie settled his 'hate crime hoax' with the city of Chicago in May, paying $50k to charity to resolve the six-year saga. He was convicted in December 2021 for lying to police in 2019 about an alleged attack, during which he claimed two men beat him, yelled homophobic slurs and placed a noose around his neck while wearing MAGA hats. The conviction was overturned last year due to a due process violation. The City of Chicago's Law Department filed a civil lawsuit against him in 2019 to recover over $130,000 in costs incurred investigating his allegedly staged attack, after he failed to meet a city-imposed payment deadline. The case, which had stretched over six years, was put to rest by both sides through a settlement.

Amsterdam's unique ring road festival sees wedding on the A10

In an unconventional twist, Zuzanna Lisowska and Yuri Iozzelli exchanged wedding rings on Amsterdam's typically traffic-choked A10 ring road, transforming a bustling highway into a unique wedding venue. The couple viewed securing a slot on the usually congested route as a good omen for their future together. The ceremony took place as part of a day-long festival that saw sections of the A10 highway, which encircles the Dutch capital, closed to vehicles. Friends and complete strangers gathered to cheer and applaud as the couple said "I do!" For Ms Lisowska, the unusual setting was simply "a super fun idea." She added: "Statistics were on our side. There were 400 couples who wanted to do it, so we feel really lucky to have been chosen." Mr Iozzelli quipped that it was "a nice party we didn't have to organize." The unique ceremony offered a memorable start to their married life, turning a symbol of urban congestion into a celebration of love. Their only regret was not being able to bring their pet rabbit. 'It was too hot,' Lisowska said after exchanging rings with Iozzelli. The city that is known for partying said that some 600,000 people tried to get access to the ring road festival last month when more than 200,000 free tickets were made available. Curious city folk, from parents pushing strollers to students and grandparents, stopped to watch the weddings and enjoyed the one-off opportunity to see the road without the usual cacophony of cars. Among them was communications student Kyra Smit. 'It's really fun because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing," she said. "It's so fun that you can say to people, wow, I'm married on the rings, so I really like this.' The day was packed with events from music performances to readings, meetups and a fun run, shortened because of the heat. Organizers even placed a temporary forest of more than 8,000 trees on the blacktop. The municipality laid on extra water taps and places where revellers could slap on sun block as temperatures soared to 30 degrees Celsius (86F) and upwards on the road surface. The city's official birthday is Oct. 27, reflecting the first time a variant of its name was used in an official document, and is staging celebratory events in the year leading up to that date. The festival on the ring road is the biggest so far and gave Amsterdam residents a new view of their ring road. 'It's quite strange because normally you drive here and now you're walking, so that's a totally different situation,' said Marjolein de Bruijne, who works close to the A10.

Jeremy Clarkson's Farm star Harriet Cowan shares rare loved-up picture with her long-term partner

's Farm star Harriet Cowan has shared a rare loved-up picture with her long-term partner, James Booth to TikTok on Thursday. The 24-year-old nurse and farmhand shocked viewers of the hugely popular Prime Video show when she appeared in the trailer for series four after Jeremy's co-star Kaleb Cooper temporarily left the show. And she has been enjoying her time in the spotlight ever since, now boasting half a million followers on Instagram and 700,000 over on TikTok. While she has not been cast permanently on the farm show, she has been keeping her fans updated on her personal life as she revealed a sweet back story about her relationship. Jumping on a recent TikTok trend, she took to the social media platform to share a cosy snapshot with her partner James alongside a throwback picture from their teen days in 2018. Harriet penned: 'From party teenagers in 2018, to mid-to-late 20s in 2025 and like to be in bed before 10. I hope I get to this life with you forever.' Harriet and her beau, who is believed to be a third-generation farmer, first met at a Young Farmer's meeting. Harriet has given her followers a sneak peek into their private life together through her social media and has an entire highlight dedicated to her 'love'. In one of her recent posts, she shared a clip of James behind the wheel of a green tractor, and suggested that that he is four years her senior. In another post, she quipped: 'The 'butterfly effect' is crazy because if I didn't join Young Farmers we'd never have met.' 'YFC gave me my whole life and for that I will be forever grateful!' Harriet also urged others to consider joining community groups, promising they will 'meet the greatest people'. Her followers were happy to see the couple together and publicly sharing insights into their life. One commented: 'Wishing you both eternal happiness,' while another added: 'You two are so cute,'. One follower, who has been in a relationship for a similar duration, shared: 'Me and my partner begun our relationship in 2018 too! 7 years, 1 dog, 2 kids and two homes later, we made it.' Some fans hinted at wedding bells, too. One joked: 'Buddy needs to put a ring on your finger.' And another cheekily asked: 'When's the wedding?.' Harriet recently broke her silence on a 'fake' Clarkson's Farm scene as she spoke candidly on a new podcast. She has been helping out Jeremy with an array of tasks on the farm and impressing viewers while also challenging stereotypes around women in farming. And last week Harriet appeared on the Should I Delete That podcast with Jeremy's daughter Emily. She spoke about one scene in the trailer that she thought seemed 'fake' when she watched it back but was in fact completely true. They discussed on the podcast how busy farmers are and how Harriet also works a full time nursing job five days a week. Emily asked her: 'Do you ever sit down with your boyfriend and chill together, or eat together? It sounds impossible.' Harriet then said: 'No! In the trailer where it's like, 'Have you watched Clarkson's Farm before?' And I'm like, 'No', and when I watched it it looked so fake. But it is so real because we don't watch telly. 'Literally, if we watch something, James will sit down, his head will hit the back of the sofa and he's asleep because the second he can rest, he'll sleep, because he's so tired all the time.' On the podcast Harriet also spoke about breaking stereotypes of women working in the world of farming On the podcast Harriet also spoke about breaking stereotypes of women working in farming. She said of appearing on the show: 'I wanted to show that women can do it too, we are there but people can't see it. Women can do it. 'Most people think of just older men wearing checked shirts when it comes to farming. 'I am challenging people's views of what people think a farmer looks like. People are so shocked when they drive past and I'm in the tractor they just stare.' The recent Clarkson's Farm trailer showed Jeremy running into several obstacles on the farm, yet TikTok star Harriet made a good impression as she was quick to help. Jeremy was left in awe at her work, turning to the camera and gushing: 'She's brilliant!' She wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty as she put in fences, loaded feed for the animals and even showed her welding skills on Diddly Squat Farm. Kaleb - who was on a nationwide tour - later returned to the farm and seemed to be getting along well with his replacement. It's hardly surprising that Harriet was a natural on the farm, having grown up helping her father Eddy tend to his land. She revealed on social media that her mother wanted her to become a nurse but her father wanted her to follow in his footsteps - so she opted to do both.
