Awg Tengah: S'wak exploring collaboration with French software and engineering giant Dassault Systèmes

KUCHING (May 7): Sarawak is exploring potential collaboration with French software and engineering giant Dassault Systèmes to drive forward its ambitions in advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and smart city development, said Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
'During the meeting, Dassault Systèmes introduced the Sarawak delegation to its 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which provides integrated solutions for 3D design, simulation, product lifecycle management, and urban planning.
'The engagement centred on possible cooperation in adopting Industry 4.0 practices, developing aerospace capabilities, digitising infrastructure projects, and enhancing talent through specialised training programmes and the establishment of centres of excellence,' Awang Tengah said in a statement.
The Deputy Premier said he was highly impressed with Dassault Systèmes' global leadership in digital innovation and advanced manufacturing.
He noted that the state's strategic goals in high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, and smart urban development align closely with Dassault's expertise.
He expressed Sarawak's strong interest in forging joint initiatives that would support its broader digital and industrial transformation.
'One key outcome of the meeting was a preliminary agreement for InvestSarawak to work closely with Dassault Systèmes and local stakeholders to explore the creation of an Innovation Lab.
'This lab would focus on training Sarawakian engineers in advanced 3D design and simulation tools, while also enhancing local manufacturing competitiveness and contributing to the development of smart city solutions,' he said.
The session concluded with both sides agreeing to initiate follow-up technical discussions and planning for a proposed visit by Dassault Systèmes representatives to Sarawak in the near future.
These next steps are expected to lay the foundation for long-term collaboration that could significantly benefit Sarawak's transition into a digitally empowered economy.

Protesters slam war profiteering, Israel at French air fair
BOBIGNY: Thousands marched on Saturday outside a French trade fair, calling for an end to war profiteering and Israel's offensive in Gaza in the latest demonstration to hit the event. The long-planned protest at the Paris Air Show outside the French capital also comes as Israel's war with Iran drags on into a ninth day, with Tehran threatening to hit back in force at Israel's offensive against its arch-rival. The presence of Israeli defence firms at the show has already become a bone of contention, with the French government on Monday sealing off the booths of five Israeli firms on the grounds that they were displaying offensive weapons that could be used in Gaza. 'Their wars, their profits, our deaths, stop the genocide in Palestine,' read the banner at the head of the march, which organisers claimed drew more than 4,000 protesters. 'As we speak, people are dying and our governments are not doing anything to stop it,' Nora, 29, told AFP at the protest. Draped in a Palestinian flag, the project leader in the pharmaceutical industry said that she felt 'rage' at the footage coming out of Gaza, including that of 'mothers kissing their dead children' in the besieged Palestinian territory. Police have arrested seven people aiming to disrupt the trade fair, the Paris public prosecutor office said, with officers discovering a helium canister and nearly 200 balloons during the searches. Six of the arrests were made on Friday and the other on Saturday, the prosecutor's office added. Soccer-NBA star Durant invests in PSG as French club plan basketball future

Durant, two-time NBA champion and four-time Olympic gold medallist, has signed a share purchase and strategic partnership agreement with PSG's majority shareholder Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), through his company Boardroom. "It is an honour to partner with QSI and to be a shareholder of Paris St Germain, a club and a city that is deeply close to my heart," Durant, who won gold at the Paris Olympics last year, said. "This club has big plans and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI." One of those opportunities is likely to come in the world of basketball, with PSG already involved in early-stage talks with the NBA regarding potential investment and venues for a new basketball league in Europe. Durant, who had already forged a link with PSG through the club's minority shareholder Arctos Partners, will partner on a wide range of commercial, investment and content production initiatives. The 36-year-old will also support the club in its strategy of diversification and growth on sporting and commercial fronts, including developing the club's strategy in the United States and other international markets.
