Egypt's Ministry of Finance has honoured Talaat Moustafa Group, the National Bank of Egypt, and Banque Misr for their role in supporting the government's efforts to modernise the country's tax system.
The recognition was presented at the 'Shukran' (Thank You) conference, an event organised by the ministry in collaboration with the Egyptian Tax Authority. The honours were linked to a recent package of tax incentives introduced by the ministry and were awarded for contributions to promoting transparency, partnership, and trust between the state and taxpayers.
The conference was attended by senior state officials and executive leaders from the public and private sectors.
Dr Tarek El-Naggar, Executive Vice President of the Financial Sector at Talaat Moustafa Group, accepted the certificate of appreciation on behalf of the group's CEO, Hisham Talaat Moustafa.
In a speech at the ceremony, El-Naggar said the honour would serve as motivation to continue the group's support for the state's economic reform efforts.
'We are delighted to receive this honour, which reflects our deep commitment to our national responsibility concerning taxes—a duty we fulfill with the utmost dedication,' he stated.
El-Naggar affirmed that the stability and clarity of tax policies are among the most prominent factors in attracting investment, stressing that both local and foreign investors consider the tax system a fundamental criterion when making investment decisions.
He also commented on the relationship between the government and the private sector, stating it has undergone a significant positive transformation in recent years. He added that there is now a clear appreciation from the state for the developmental role played by investors, which fosters a climate of trust and encourages support for the national economy.
To support this point, El-Naggar highlighted Egypt's improved ranking in a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which placed the country first in Africa and ninth globally for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). According to El-Naggar, the modernisation of the tax system was a significant contributor to this result.

Euro Surges Against Egyptian Pound to Over 30-Piaster Jump

Taarek Refaat The euro witnessed a notable surge against the Egyptian pound on Sunday, marking a significant start to the banking first day of the week in Egypt. The exchange rate climbed by more than 30 piasters compared to Saturday's rates, reflecting growing foreign exchange pressures amid ongoing economic reforms and global uncertainty. According to official data from Egyptian banks, the euro traded at EGP 58.09 for purchase and EGP 58.21 for sale at the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). At Egypt's two largest state-owned banks—National Bank of Egypt and Banque Misr—the euro climbed even higher, recording EGP 58.33 to buy and EGP 58.71 to sell. Sunday's rate spike marks one of the strongest weekly openings for the euro in Egypt this year, following a series of steady gains throughout June. Compared to early June—when the euro hovered around EGP 56.4–56.6—the current exchange rate reflects a total increase of nearly 2 Egyptian pounds in just over two weeks. 'The sharp appreciation of the euro against the pound highlights renewed pressure on Egypt's foreign exchange market,' said a senior currency trader at a private Cairo bank, speaking on condition of anonymity. 'It may be due to a mix of reduced hard currency inflows, seasonal demand, and adjustments linked to the government's ongoing economic reform agenda.' Egypt continues to navigate a complex economic landscape as it implements IMF-backed reforms. These include a more flexible exchange rate regime, subsidy cuts, and efforts to attract foreign direct investment. While these policies are aimed at stabilizing long-term economic fundamentals, they have also resulted in short-term volatility in the local currency. The euro's strength may also be tied to regional and global factors. Analysts point to tighter European Central Bank policy, geopolitical tensions, and shifting investor sentiment in emerging markets as contributing forces behind capital outflows from Egypt and similar economies. For Egyptian households and businesses, the rise in euro prices adds further pressure to an economy already grappling with inflation and rising import costs. Imported goods priced in euros—ranging from pharmaceuticals to industrial equipment—are likely to become more expensive if the trend continues. Tourists traveling to Europe this summer will also feel the pinch, as the cost of exchanging pounds for euros rises sharply. Meanwhile, Egyptian exporters and those receiving remittances in euros may find some relief in the stronger European currency. Kuwait Activates Emergency Shelters for Government Staff

Israa Farhan Kuwait's Ministry of Finance has activated its national emergency plan following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, opening fully equipped shelters for government employees as a precautionary measure. According to Kuwaiti daily Al-Jarida, the ministry has implemented a series of comprehensive protective measures to ensure the continuity of financial and public services in the event of regional escalation. Among the key actions taken is the readiness of civil defense shelters within the Government Complex building, with the capacity to accommodate up to 900 personnel. The shelters are rated C4 and are reportedly in excellent operational condition. In addition, contingency storage areas have been designated for emergency use, and financial systems have been migrated to backup platforms to ensure uninterrupted operations. The ministry has also enabled secure remote working capabilities through specialized cybersecurity programs to safeguard digital infrastructure. The emergency preparations were triggered in the wake of US President Donald Trump's announcement on Sunday that American forces had conducted airstrikes that destroyed three nuclear facilities in Iran. The president warned that further military action could follow unless Tehran seeks a peaceful resolution to ongoing tensions. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

President El-Sisi reviews outcomes of 1st tax facilities initiative - Economy

President El-Sisi made this outcome review during a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk. "According to Law No. 6 of 2025, the number of taxpayers who have applied to benefit from the tax incentives and facilitations for projects whose annual turnover does not exceed EGP 20 million has reached 52,901," Kouchouk said, according to a presidential statement. In September 2024, the government introduced the new tax facilitation package to support small businesses, startups, and freelancers and foster a more accessible and investor-friendly environment. The tax facilitation plan was then incorporated into Laws Nos. 5, 6, and 7, which were passed in February 2025. This integrated tax system was specifically designed for businesses with annual revenues not exceeding EGP 15 million, benefiting small and micro enterprises, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and professionals. The new framework has simplified the tax filing process, allowing businesses to submit or amend tax returns for 2021-2023 without incurring penalties. The Sunday meeting also discussed the latest developments regarding the Ministry of Finance's plan for international issuances for the fiscal year 2024/2025, aligning with efforts to reduce external debt for budgetary bodies. Preliminary indicators point to the government and the Ministry of Finance's success in reducing the external debt balance for budgetary bodies by $1 to $2 billion annually. Moreover, the meeting discussed the increasing volatility in international markets and the impact of geopolitical challenges, especially the war between Iran and Israel, on rising uncertainty in key global markets, particularly shipping and commodity prices. The meeting also discussed Egypt's financial performance from July 2024 to May 2025, highlighting the achievement of a large and strong primary surplus, the reduction of the overall deficit ratio, and strong and accelerated growth rates in tax revenues, reaching 36 percent due to improved economic activity. They also reviewed the primary targets for FY2024/2025, especially the debt ratio of general budgetary bodies to GDP (domestic and external), the development of tax revenues, the growth rate, the status of wages and employee compensations, and the status of goods and services purchases and interest payments. The Minister of Finance also highlighted efforts and developments related to monitoring the implementation of the IMF programme reforms and ongoing negotiations to approve the disbursement of the tranche related to the fifth review.
