Nodal officers appointed for Karnataka Public Schools project
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 31 (ANI): The state government on Saturday appointed nodal officers to coordinate and expedite the construction of CSR-funded Karnataka Public Schools, as per a release.
Commissioner for Industrial Development Gunjan Krishna has been appointed as the coordinating officer, and Karnataka State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation and MD Khushboo G Chowdhary have been appointed as the CEO.
The two officers will work with various corporates to mobilise CSR funds for the Karnataka Public Schools.
The Karnataka Public Schools is a dream project of the DCM to upgrade educational infrastructure in rural schools and provide high quality education to students from rural areas. All the schools would be built with CSR funds from corporates.
The decision to appoint nodal officers was taken in view of the slow progress in setting up 2000 Karnataka Public Schools in the state. The two officers will work to expedite the execution of this project.
In another move, the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah issued strong instructions to officials across state during a progress review meeting and stated that districts must work to reduce the percentage of severely malnourished children by at least one percent every year.
Addressing the issue of malnourished children, the CM said that although the problem cannot be eliminated overnight due to social challenges, districts must work to reduce the percentage of severely malnourished children by at least 1 per cent every year. He issued this directive to the Deputy Commissioners of Bidar, Vijayanagar, and Ballari.
'There are social reasons why it's not possible to eliminate the issue all at once. Therefore, reducing the percentage by 1 per cent every year can help,' he said.
The meeting, attended by ministers and senior bureaucrats, witnessed the CM giving clear directives aimed at improving governance and service delivery.
He also emphasised continuous health monitoring of children, including tracking haemoglobin levels, and questioned the lack of visible improvements in nutritional status despite the provision of milk, eggs, and supplements.
'A scientific report must be prepared to understand why there is no progress. Based on that, corrective steps should be taken,' the CM said. (ANI)

"Parliament must speak in collective voice": RJD's Manoj Jha on Pakistan nominating US President Donald Trump for Nobel peace prize
RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha on Saturday stated that Parliament must speak in a collective voice on the Pakistani government nominating US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Jha further stated that Rajnath Singh was one of the veteran leaders who did not harbour enmity towards the Opposition , unlike the newer ones. "We've even heard that a neighbouring country is officially endorsing him (US President) and pushing for the Nobel Prize... From that perspective, Parliament must speak in one collective voice, and we need to see what Rajnath Singh can do to make that happen. We believe that Rajnath Singh is one of those veteran leaders who do not harbour enmity towards the Opposition, unlike the newer ones. Come to Parliament and send a unified message to the American President under the leadership of the Prime Minister," Jha told ANI. "The way our civilians were killed -- that collective pain has now become the nation's pain. However, many questions remain. Donald Trump has made his statement for the 17th time, and the MEA bureaucracy cannot counter that. There should be a session of Parliament," he further stated. On June 21, the Pakistani government formally recommended US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his "decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership" during the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, as reported by The Dawn. Live Events The post read, "At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi." Dawn reported. "This intervention stands as a testament to his [Trump's] role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue," the Pakistan statement added. The official nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize comes just after Pakistan's COAS, Field Marshall Asim Munir , met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday. Trump himself made a pitch for the Nobel, citing various engagements for which he believed he should get the Nobel Peace Prize. "I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia (A massive Ethiopian built dam, stupidly financed by the United States of America, substantially reduces the water flowing into The Nile River), and I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing the Abraham Accords in the Middle East which, if all goes well, will be loaded to the brim with additional Countries signing on, and will unify the Middle East for the first time in "The Ages!" No, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize, no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and that's all that matters to me," he said in a post on Truth Social.

"Modi ji has mastered the art of slogans, not solutions," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi crticises "Make in India"
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that despite promises of a 'Make in India' factory boom, manufacturing in the country is at a record low and youth unemployment is very high. Gandhi questioned the effectiveness of the 'Make in India' initiative, highlighting that manufacturing in the country has fallen to a record low of 14 per cent of the economy since 2014. He also pointed to rising youth unemployment and a doubling of imports from China, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of focusing on slogans rather than real solutions. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi shared a video and wrote, 'Make in India' promised a factory boom. So why is manufacturing at record lows, youth unemployment at record highs, and why have imports from China more than doubled? Modi ji has mastered the art of slogans, not solutions. Since 2014, manufacturing has fallen to 14% of our economy.' He highlighted the challenges faced by India's youth, sharing in a post that he met two talented young men, Shivam and Saif, in Nehru Place, New Delhi, who remain unable to fulfil their potential. He criticised the country's current economic model and said, 'In Nehru Place, New Delhi, I met Shivam and Saif - bright, skilled, full of promise - yet denied the opportunity to fulfil it. The truth is stark: we assemble, we import, but we don't build. China profits.' He said that Prime Minister Modi has no new ideas and has given up on growing India's industries. He added that even the important PLI scheme is being quietly stopped. Gandhi called for big changes to help Indian producers with honest reforms and financial support, warning that if India doesn't build its industries, it will keep buying from other countries. 'With no new ideas, Modi ji has surrendered. Even the much-hyped PLI scheme is now being quietly rolled back. India needs a fundamental shift - one that empowers lakhs of producers through honest reforms and financial support. We must stop being a market for others. If we don't build here, we'll keep buying from those who do. The clock is ticking,' the post reads The Make in India initiative was launched by the Prime Minister in September 2014 as part of a wider set of nation-building initiatives. (ANI)

"Congress has only given khatakhat jhoot and loot model," BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla slams Karnataka govt over alleged housing scam
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Saturday, saying that while leading the Karnataka government the party has only given the state a 'khatakhat jhoot and loot model,' alleging that the state government is giving off houses meant to be for poor people through bribes. 'The Congress party has only given a khatakhat jhoot & loot model in Karnataka. First, they gave false guarantees, came to power, and now they are looting with both hands -- be it the MUDA Scam, Valmiki Scam, Liquor Scam, Rice Procurement Scam, or land scams of all kinds. Now there's a housing scam, where houses belonging to the poorest of the poor are being sold off for massive bribes,' Poonawalla told ANI in Delhi. Questioning the state government, the BJP leader asked whether a CBI or independent judicial probe would be carried out as the matter first became public knowledge through a Congress MLA. 'Now the question is -- will any action be taken against the said minister? Will there be a CBI or an independent judicial probe in this matter? Because the allegation hasn't come from the BJP or any activist -- it has been made by a Congress MLA,' he said. Poonawalla was referencing an alleged leaked audio of Congress MLA BR Patil, in which the party leader is purportedly heard accusing officials of taking bribes for allotting houses. Yesterday, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defended the decision by his government to increase reservation quota by 10-15 per cent in various housing schemes, saying that the decision was in line with the central government's guidelines based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's program for the welfare of minorities. He said the program directs all implementing agencies to earmark '15 per cent of physical and financial targets for minorities wherever possible.' Reacting to criticism that the state government's decision was 'unconstitutional or appeasement,' the Karnataka CM asked why the guidelines issued by the centre were being implemented under government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. 'This guideline is issued by the BJP-led Union Government and has been in force for years. If this was unconstitutional or appeasement, why did the Union Government ask all states to follow it? Why is it being implemented under Central schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?' he asked. Siddaramaiah further said that the state government's decision doesn't grant 'blanket enhancement' of quota across Karnataka but addresses a specific implementation challenge to ensure optimal use of allocated targets.
