Chandrapur
recorded the highest maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius, which was 3.6 notches above normal. US-based private forecaster El Dorado also placed Chandrapur at the top of the world heat graph for the day. Chandrapur clocked its highest maximum temperature of 47.6 degrees in April 2013 and 47.2 degrees in April 2019.
El Dorado also ranked Bramhapuri (45 degrees) as third hottest and Amravati (44.6 degrees) as fifth in the world. With 44.1 degrees Celsius, Akola was the 12th hottest city.
Nagpur recorded 43.6 degrees Celsius, a slight dip from last two days. Nagpur clocked its highest temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, when it topped India's heat graph. Yet, strong hot winds blew during evening hours, making nights warmer and offering no respite from the sweltering heat.
This was the second day when Chandrapur recorded the highest maximum temperature in India after Sunday's 44.6 degrees Celsius.
An IMD advisory stated that a heatwave-like condition now prevails over Vidarbha region. A

has been issued for Chandrapur, Akola, Amravati, and Wardha until April 24. As per Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), heatwave conditions are likely to intensify with most Vidarbha districts already reeling under temperatures in 43-44°C range.
The heatwave conditions are expected to prevail for the next four days as the temperature may rise further. The unusually high temperatures mid-April have caught many residents off guard. With hot winds blowing throughout the day, streets in Chandrapur, Nagpur, and other districts remained largely deserted in peak afternoon hours as people chose to stay indoors.
Weather officials have warned that if current trends continue, the region may witness temperatures touching 47°C in May — traditionally the hottest month in Vidarbha. The administration's advisory also urges people to check on vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and children, and report any cases of heatstroke to health authorities immediately.
Chandrapur district collector Vinay Gowda GC and Nagpur collector Vipin Itankar urged citizens to take adequate precautions and avoid stepping out at noon. He issued an advisory outlining dos and don'ts to help citizens cope with the heat. People have been advised to stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothes, and avoid direct sun exposure from noon to 4pm. Bramhapuri, Yavatmal, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Nagpur, Bhandara, and Akola reported soaring day temperatures, indicating the onset of a prolonged and harsh summer.

When this happens, the entire line is closed and repaired before trains can run again. This closure causes cancellations and inevitable delays. 40 degrees Celsius summer Earlier this week, the Met Office warned that the UK is now 20 times more likely to witness 40 degrees Celsius heat than it was in the 1960s. "Because our climate continues to warm, we can expect the chance [of 40 C heat] to keep rising. We estimate a 50-50 chance of seeing a 40 C day again in the next 12 years," Dr Gillian Kay, lead author of a Met Office study into heatwaves, told Metro. "We also found that temperatures several degrees higher than we saw in July 2022 are possible in today's climate." She warned that the UK must 'prepare for even higher heat extremes in the near future'. When UK temperatures went over 40C for the first time that year, it was seen as a shocking outlier.
