CyberKnight, a leading value-added distributor in the Middle East focused on Zero Trust Security, has announced a new strategic partnership with ON2IT. ON2IT is known as the pioneer of Zero Trust as a Service (ZTaaS).
The partnership aims to support enterprise and government organizations across the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa (META). The goal is to help them move away from perimeter-based cyber defenses.
According to the companies, this unified Zero Trust framework is designed to lower cyber risk, improve compliance, and reduce operational costs.
Gartner reported that by 2026, 10% of large enterprises will have a mature Zero Trust program. This is a significant increase from less than 1% today. Forrester's Chase Cunningham stated, 'Zero Trust is no longer optional.'
The announcement highlights that AI-driven threats and geopolitical risks make Zero Trust a business necessity today.
ON2IT's Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service runs on the AUXO™ platform. It processes log data from IT, OT, and cloud sources without traditional SIEM complexity.
Each event is analyzed in real time and retrospectively using the AUXO Threat Intel Feed™. Then, the data is routed through EventFlow™. If needed, it is escalated to ON2IT's 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC).
This prevention-first approach: Blocks attacks before escalation
Reduces data-storage and tool sprawl
Wael Jaber, Chief Strategy Officer at CyberKnight, revealed, 'Current security stacks weren't built for today's cyber war.' He added that adding ON2IT's ZTaaS gives META customers access to proven Zero Trust services.
Marcel van Eemeren, CEO and Co-founder of ON2IT, stated, 'CyberKnight and ON2IT are proud to join forces.' He said their services are modular, scalable, and tailored to each organization's needs.
He also noted that META clients will gain access to global Zero Trust strategies, no SIEM required, and no compromises needed.

Apple executives held internal talks about buying Perplexity: Reports

Apple executives have held internal talks about potentially bidding for artificial intelligence startup Perplexity, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The discussions are at an early stage and may not lead to an offer, the report said, adding that the tech behemoth's executives have not discussed a bid with Perplexity's management. "We have no knowledge of any current or future MA discussions involving Perplexity," Perplexity said in response to a Reuters' request for comment. Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters' request for comment. Big tech companies are doubling down on investments to enhance AI capabilities and support growing demand for AI-powered services to maintain competitive leadership in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Bloomberg News also reported on Friday that Meta Platforms tried to buy Perplexity earlier this year. Meta announced a $14.8 billion investment in Scale AI last week and hired Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang to lead its new superintelligence unit. Adrian Perica, Apple's head of mergers and acquisitions, has weighed the idea with services chief Eddy Cue and top AI decision-makers, as per the report. The iPhone maker reportedly plans to integrate AI-driven search capabilities, such as Perplexity AI, into its Safari browser, potentially moving away from its longstanding partnership with Alphabet's Google. Banning Google from paying companies to make it their default search engine is one of the remedies proposed by the US Department of Justice to break up its dominance in online search. While traditional search engines such as Google still dominate global market share, AI-powered search options including Perplexity and ChatGPT are gaining prominence and seeing rising user adoption, especially among younger generations. Perplexity recently completed a funding round that valued it at $14 billion, Bloomberg News reported. A deal close to that would be Apple's largest acquisition so far. The Nvidia-backed startup provides AI search tools that deliver information summaries to users, similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Oakley Meta HSTN delivers AI eyewear edge for athletes

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai Meta has unveiled the Oakley Meta HSTN, a new smart glasses model tailored for sports enthusiasts that introduces high-resolution video and extended battery life. Pre-orders open on 11 July for the premium $499 edition, with standard variants priced from $399 available later in the summer. Initial markets include the US, Canada, UK, select European countries, Australia, and later expansions slated for Mexico, India, and the UAE. Built on Oakley's performance-driven HSTN design, the glasses feature an ultrawide 12-megapixel camera capable of capturing 3K video—surpassing the previous Ray-Ban Meta's full-HD resolution—and eight-hour active battery life, doubling the endurance of its predecessor, with a charging case offering an additional 48 hours. The frames are IPX4 splash-resistant, making them sweat- and rain-ready, and incorporate open-ear speakers and dual microphones, supporting music playback, calls, and Meta AI interaction. ADVERTISEMENT Meta's chief wearable strategist, Alex Himel, explained that user data showed demand for more robust gear: athletes were using Ray-Ban Meta in high-intensity conditions, prompting this sports-grade iteration. Enhanced lens options such as Oakley's PRIZM treatments aid visual clarity, particularly useful in dynamic outdoor activities like cycling or surfing. Powered by integrated Meta AI, wearers can issue voice commands like 'Hey Meta' to record video, translate languages, query environmental conditions—such as wind speed on the golf green—or post content hands-free. Celebrity endorsements include Kylian Mabappé, Patrick Mahomes, and J.R. Smith, used to reinforce the performance narrative. The launch underscores Meta's broader strategy to diversify its wearable offerings through EssilorLuxottica partnerships, expanding the previously successful Ray-Ban Meta range which sold over two million units. The companies aim to reach 10 million smart glasses units annually by 2026, marking a substantial scaling effort. This product enters a competitive AI-wearables arena. Alphabet is partnering with Warby Parker on its own AI glasses, backed by a $150 million investment, while Snap continues to develop its Specs line for a 2026 release. Analysts view Meta's positioning of the Oakley Meta at the $399–$499 price point as striking a balance between premium features and wider market appeal, drawing comparisons to Apple's tactics in wearable pricing strategies. Critics note the relatively modest IPX4 rating—which protects from splashes but not submersion—indicates room for further durability improvements. Meta acknowledges future iterations will aim at higher standards, such as IP67, to match real-world athlete demands. Privacy advocates continue to monitor smart glasses for discreet recording capabilities, though these Oakley frames still feature a visible LED to indicate active recording. The Oakley Meta HSTN will make its public debut at sporting events including Fanatics Fest and UFC International Fight Week in late June, signalling Meta's intent to align the product with live athletic experiences.

WhatsApp charts ad and creator‑subscription course

WhatsApp is rolling out a trio of monetisation tools within its Updates tab, signalling a significant shift in strategy while keeping its core service intact. Businesses and creator‑led Channels can now access new advertising options, subscribers can unlock exclusive content, and adverts will begin appearing in status updates – all isolated from personal chats. Approximately 1.5 billion users engage with the Updates feed daily, where ephemeral Status posts and one‑way Channels feature prominently. Meta, the parent company, is instituting three monetisation pillars: paid subscriptions to Channels, promoted placement for selected Channels, and targeted ads in Status postings. Paid Channel subscriptions enable creators and organisations to offer exclusive content to subscribed users. Channel owners can set monthly fees, receiving payment directly; Meta has confirmed it will forgo revenue share this year. Users continue to access non‑premium Channels at no cost, preserving inclusivity. ADVERTISEMENT Promoted Channels afford businesses and creators the ability to gain visibility within the Channels directory. These paid promotions echo Facebook and Instagram's ad features, enabling targeted outreach to engaged audiences on WhatsApp. Advertising in Status posts marks WhatsApp's first foray into native ad content. Businesses will now have the opportunity to insert sponsored Status updates visible alongside friends and family updates, with direct messaging links for user engagement. Meta assures these monetisation measures will not breach WhatsApp's end‑to‑end encryption on personal chats, calls, and Status. The Updates feed is portrayed as a separate, user‑opt‑in zone that won't affect the private messaging interface. Ad targeting will be based on broad demographic signals—such as language, city, activity within Updates, and cross‑app preferences if linked via Meta's Accounts Center—excluding personal message content. Meta highlights ongoing user trust as a cornerstone, emphasising that phone numbers will not be shared with advertisers and ad delivery does not draw from personal or group conversations. This assurance follows backlash in 2021 concerning alleged T&Cs changes, underscoring the fragility of confidence in WhatsApp's promises. Meta's move is clearly motivated by financial incentives. With ad revenue soaring—for instance, Meta reported US $160.6 billion in ad income in 2024—and WhatsApp yet to be fully monetised, the company plans to leverage its massive user base without compromising privacy guarantees. This transformation mirrors WhatsApp's evolution in Asia, where apps like WeChat serve as multifunctional ecosystems encompassing commerce, messaging, and media. Meta's vision is to expand WhatsApp's utility by integrating business and creator economy tools in non‑intrusive areas. Despite assurances, the roll‑out has sparked debate over potential shifts in user experience. Some long‑time users perceive this as a betrayal by an app founded on a minimalist, privacy‑first ethos – 'No ads! No games! No gimmicks!' as WhatsApp's founders once promised. Timid but discernible resistance emerged on social media platforms like Reddit, with a fraction of users threatening migration to platforms like Signal or Telegram. Meta is mitigating these concerns through phased deployment, global scheduling over coming months, and strict differentiation between private and monetised environments. Advertisers and business leaders, however, are optimistic: the Updates tab presents a potent venue for visibility, especially for small businesses traditionally underrepresented in mainstream ad environments. WhatsApp's approach marks its boldest commercial pivot yet, with strategic calculus focused on preserving encryption while introducing revenue‑generating mechanisms. The company's ability to maintain trust, eye potential regulatory scrutiny, and adapt to user response will determine whether this evolution strengthens WhatsApp's role as both a private messaging app and a platform for business and entertainment.
