Ballard announces leadership transition
VANCOUVER, BC, June 16, 2025 /CNW/ - Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) (TSX: BLDP) today announced a planned leadership transition. After more than a decade of transformative leadership, Randy MacEwen will step down as President and Chief Executive Officer, with Marty Neese assuming the position effective July 7, 2025.
"It has been a true privilege to lead Ballard for the past 11 years during a dynamic period for the company and hydrogen industry," said Randy MacEwen. "We have built a strong foundation that has positioned the company as an industry leader. Given changing industry dynamics, including a focus on product cost reduction, it is the right time for a new leader with a strong operational background to guide Ballard into the future."
The Board of Directors has appointed Marty Neese as President & CEO following a succession planning process. A seasoned executive with a deep background in operations, Mr. Neese has extensive experience in product standardization, product cost reduction, volume production, and gross margin optimization. Mr. Neese has served on Ballard's Board of Directors over the past 10 years, and as the CEO of Verdagy, an innovative electrolysis and green hydrogen company, over the past four years. Earlier in his career, he served as the chief operating officer of SunPower and Flex. With his background and experience, Mr. Neese is uniquely qualified to drive the company's next phase of growth and operational efficiency.
"Marty is the right leader for Ballard as the fuel cell industry undergoes a period of rationalization and competitive realignment," said Jim Roche, Chair of the Board of Directors. "His proven track record in operational excellence, product innovation and commercialization, and cost management will ensure Ballard not only adapts to this new environment but thrives in it."
"The fuel cell industry is entering a new phase, and Ballard is taking decisive steps to position itself for long-term sustainable success," said Mr. Neese. "I am honored to step into this role at a company with such a strong brand, and a leading track record for safety, technology, and proven field performance in our target markets. We have a fortress balance sheet with no requirements for near-term or mid-term financings. Working alongside our talented team, I look forward to building on this solid foundation, optimizing our operations, accelerating innovation, and unlocking long-term value for our stakeholders."
The leadership transition has been carefully planned to ensure a seamless and orderly handover. Mr. MacEwen will continue to serve as the CEO until Marty's start date and then will remain available in an advisory capacity through September 30, 2025.

According to Friday's news release, Trafigura will assist with the syndication of a consortium to provide Euro Sun with up to US$200 million in additional debt upon Rovina Valley reaching the construction phase. Taxpayers' Ombudsperson releases his fifth and final annual report Français
OTTAWA, ON, June 20, 2025 /CNW/ - Canada's Taxpayers' Ombudsperson, Mr. François Boileau, has released his annual report, Clearing the Path, which was tabled today in the House of Commons. The report provides an overview of the activities of the Office of the Taxpayers' Ombudsperson (OTO) between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. The report details how the OTO influenced service improvements at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) by reviewing service issues and complaints. It also includes two recommendations to the Minister of Finance and National Revenue and the Chair of the CRA's Board of Management to improve the CRA's service to Canadians. During the last fiscal year, the OTO released two systemic examination reports: Unintended Consequences, about the CRA's administration of the 2023 bare trust filing requirements, and Timing Is Everything, about issues that may be causing delays in Canada child benefit (CCB) payments for temporary residents. Between these two reports, we made 16 recommendations, and the CRA accepted 13 of them. As this is the final year of Mr. Boileau's five-year mandate, the annual report also includes a chapter about his views on improving the CRA's services for vulnerable and hard–to-reach populations. This chapter analyzes the CRA's efforts to make sure these populations get the benefits and credits they are entitled to. It looks at the CRA's existing programs, including the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program (in Quebec) and SimpleFile, and discusses how they could be improved to better meet Canadians' needs. 2024–2025 report highlights: The Taxpayers' Ombudsperson recommends: (…) that the CRA perform a comprehensive review of its content on including its web page architecture and content, to remove redundant information and to make sure the information it provides is relevant, clear, concise and easy to find. It should complete this review by spring 2026 and start implementing changes by fall 2026. (…) that the CRA provide a permanently funded grant program for organizations participating in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program and the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program to support their free tax clinics for eligible taxpayers and help them offset their operating costs. Trends in complaints Contact centres: The top trend relates to issues with the information provided by contact centre agents. Many taxpayers who were able to reach the CRA's contact centres claimed that agents provided them with incomplete, inaccurate, or unclear information, while others were unable to even reach an agent because the wait times were too long or they could not get into the queue. Income tax and benefit return processing and adjustments: Many complainants claimed that there were delays in processing returns beyond the CRA's published service standard; however, it is important to note that the CRA's service standard applies to returns received on or before filing due dates. As well, the standard excludes returns filed for deceased, bankruptcy, international and non-resident individuals as well as emigrants. It also does not apply in situations where returns are filed for multiple tax years or when the CRA has to contact the taxpayers for more information. Collection action: These complaints claimed the CRA did not consider the taxpayer's personal circumstances when taking collection action, and in some cases the taxpayer claimed that the collection action put them in financial hardship. CCB: Many complainants said that the CRA's review of their eligibility for the CCB put a burden on them. The CRA told them that the information they provided was not sufficient, even if they provided most of what was requested. They claimed that the CRA did not clearly inform them why what they provided was not sufficient and why additional documents were required. The CRA's Service Feedback Program: These complainants said that the CRA's Service Feedback Program did not respond to their complaint within its published service standard. Background information The Office of the Taxpayers' Ombudsperson works independently from the CRA. Canadians can submit complaints to the Office if they feel they are not receiving the appropriate service from the CRA. Our main objective is to improve the service the CRA provides to taxpayers and benefit recipients by reviewing individual service complaints and service issues that affect more than one person or a segment of the population. The Taxpayers' Ombudsperson assists, advises and informs the Minister of Finance and National Revenue about matters relating to services provided by the CRA. The Ombudsperson ensures, in particular, that the CRA respects eight of the service rights outlined in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. Quote "I am especially proud of the work we have done to improve the CRA's services for the most vulnerable. The dual nature of the CRA's work is not well known, aside from its role as tax collector. The second, lesser-known role is to administer benefit and credit programs that can be crucially important to a large segment of the Canadian population. However, when the most vulnerable do not file, they will not receive what they're entitled to, which has a profound effect on not only them, but also our society as a whole." Why Amazon Could Be About To Breakout To $250
Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) has staged an impressive comeback since the dark days of early April. The tech giant is up more than 30% in barely more than two months and, as of Tuesday evening, was trading just under $215. That's only around a 10% move away from February's r ecord highs at the $240 level. For those of us on the sidelines, it's time to get excited because there are multiple signs that another leg higher is coming fast. Between bullish technical momentum, supportive analyst coverage, and a consistent tendency to rally into earnings, there are at least three solid reasons to think shares could be trading at $250 or more before the summer is out. The Technical Setup Is Bullish Since April, Amazon's chart has been showing higher highs and higher lows, a classic sign of a strong uptrend. Each dip has been shallow and swiftly bought up. Momentum is clearly on the bulls' side, and with the broader market in risk-on mode, that trend looks likely to continue. In recent sessions, the $215 level has emerged as a key resistance zone. It's where sellers have stepped in and checked the upward momentum, but they've been unable to reverse the overall trend. With the stock tightening into that level, we're now looking at a textbook breakout setup. A clean push through $215 could trigger a fast move up to retest the all-time highs at $242. But it may not stop there. In a market driven by momentum and narrative, the psychology of a breakout can be just as powerful as any catalyst. A break above all-time highs would confirm the bullish structure, clear the way for new upside targets, and likely trigger a wave of technical buying. If that happens, $250 becomes a very achievable near-term target. Analysts Are Getting Louder The analyst community is doing its part to support the bull case. Already this month, both JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America have reiterated their Overweight ratings and issued fresh price targets. JPMorgan raised its target to $240, while BofA raised its target to $248. Both calls reflect growing confidence that Amazon's underlying business remains robust, especially on the AWS side, and that it's well-positioned to continue outpacing expectations. These new targets align broadly with other analysts' bullish stance throughout the year, but they are far from the most optimistic. The team over at Tigress Financial reiterated their Buy rating last month and boosted their price target to a street-high $305, which implies more than 40% upside from current levels. Amazon Loves to Rally Into Earnings The final reason to be excited about the potential upside in the weeks ahead is Amazon's pattern of running into earnings. With the next report due in late July, this dynamic should help drive an imminent breakout. We saw this in the run-up to the May report when shares rallied sharply in the weeks before the results. The same pattern played out in February and again last November. That kind of consistency makes it a fairly reliable playbook, especially when combined with broader bullish market sentiment. This time around, the conditions are arguably even better. The major indices are once again flirting with fresh all-time highs, investor appetite for mega-cap tech is surging again, and Amazon's fundamentals look stronger than ever. If recent history is any guide, smart investors will start building or adding to positions starting now, ahead of the July report. When a stock with this kind of chart and analyst support also has a history of rallying to earnings (that it then beats), it's hard to stay on the sidelines. Where Should You Invest $1,000 Right Now?
