Oman named guest of honour at 56th Algiers International Fair

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is the guest of honour at the 56th edition of the Algiers International Fair, held at the 'Safex Expo Center' in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria from June 23 to 28.
This participation underscores the strength of fraternal and economic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, as well as the fruitful cooperation between the two countries across various fields.
The Omani delegation is headed by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, with participation from several government and private sector entities. The Omani pavilion at the international fair features over 60 companies and establishments from diverse industrial, commercial and service sectors, including specialised firms in pharmaceuticals, transportation, electrical transformers, real estate, fisheries, tourism, food products, handicrafts, and more.
The participation aims to explore opportunities of trade and investment exchange, as well as discussing potential partnerships and export prospects to the Algerian market and regional and international markets.
Ibtisam bint Ahmed al Faroojiyah, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion, affirmed that Oman's invitation as guest of honour at this event reflects the depth of bilateral and economic relations between the two countries. She noted that Oman views Algeria as a nation with promising opportunities for cooperation in investment, trade and industry.
She stated that this participation seeks to present Oman as a promising investment hub, highlighting available investment opportunities and showcasing its modern infrastructure, incentives and facilitations for investors, making it a strategic platform for accessing regional and global markets.
She added that the Omani pavilion offers visitors and investors an enriching interactive experience while providing a platform to enhance communication between Omani and Algerian companies.
The Algiers International Fair, held annually, attracts thousands of visitors and participants from around the world. Oman's participation will bolster its commercial and investment presence on the international stage, opening new horizons for the Omani private sector to build sustainable partnerships that support economic diversification and regional integration efforts. - ONA

OIA further noted an increase in Omanisation rates, reaching 93% in the Authority itself and 77.7% across affiliated companies, underlining its commitment to empowering national talent in the investment sector. In support of local entrepreneurship, the Authority reported a total expenditure of RO 265.5 million on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in 2024. Key financial milestones The media briefing also showcased several headline financial achievements. OIA's total assets surpassed RO 20 billion, underscoring its growing scale and investment footprint. Furthermore, profits exceeded RO 1.5 billion, reflecting strong returns on investments and prudent financial management. The Authority reaffirmed its role in contributing to the national economy, with its entities channelling RO 800 million into the state budget, helping fund development projects and essential services.

The Gourmand awards are among the most prominent global events celebrating the best books in culinary arts and food culture. The ministry's participation showcased Oman's culinary heritage through its book, produced in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University. At a ceremony attended by culinary experts and industry figures from around the world, Oman won the 'Best Book in the World' award in the Culinary Diplomacy category and 'Best Cookbook in the World' award in the Intangible Cultural Heritage category. Officials said the achievement highlights efforts to document and promote Omani cuisine as an integral part of the nation's cultural and heritage identity. Asma bint Salem al Hajri, Tourism Promotion Expert at the ministry, said the participation reflects ongoing work to enhance the reputation of Omani cuisine regionally and internationally. She noted that traditional Omani food plays a key role in cultural tourism and showcases the depth of Omani civilisation. The ministry's activities at the event included a visual presentation and a tasting session, giving attendees insight into Omani dishes, their ingredients and preparation. The event was a platform to introduce the diversity and authenticity of Omani food to new audiences and make it a part of the sultanate's tourism offering. Fatima bint Ali al Lawati, Assistant Director for Institutional Planning and member of the Food Tourism and Culinary Arts Programme at the ministry, said the double win demonstrates international appreciation for Oman's culinary arts and intangible heritage. She added that the recognition will encourage further efforts to promote Omani food culture through careful documentation and creative marketing.
