'Youm-e-Takbeer' hailed as golden chapter in history

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of the country and the Ummah on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, calling it a day of pride, power and unwavering national resolve.
In a message she said, "Youm-e-Takbeer is not just a date on the calendar, it is a powerful reminder of Pakistan's historic decision to become a nuclear power, a decision that continues to inspire pride and confidence in the nation."
She said 27 years had passed, yet the people of Pakistan continue to hold their heads high and they will continue to do so. "This is the day when Pakistan's leadership, under prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, chose national interest and public aspiration over global pressure."
The CM said, "Pakistan's nuclear capability is not only a strategic asset for the country but a symbol of strength and pride for the entire Muslim world. "By the grace of Almighty Allah, Pakistan earned the historic distinction of becoming the first Muslim nuclear power," she said.
The CM emphasised that "the enemy no longer dares to cast an evil eye on our land, because of the bold and visionary decision taken on May 28, 1998.
The foundation for the victory on May 10 was laid on May 28. Our nuclear programme remains a key pillar of Pakistan's defence strategy."
CM Maryam Nawaz praised the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, saying that the nation remains indebted to him for his brave and historic decision.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also extended warm congratulations to the people of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, describing it as a golden chapter in the nation's defence history.
In a statement, Speaker Khan said, "Youm-e-Takbeer is not merely a date on the calendar—it is a day that reaffirms our unwavering commitment to national sovereignty, pride, and defence."
Recalling the events of May 28, 1998, Khan said the successful nuclear tests conducted on that day sent a decisive message to Pakistan's adversaries.

Conversion of Hindu minors triggers community uproar

The conversion of three Hindu sisters and their male cousin - two of them minors — to Islam in Sindh's Sanghar district sparked a backlash from the local Hindu community on Wednesday. Acting on urgent appeals from the parents of 13-year-old Hunain Kumar, 16-year-old Jiya, 19-year-old Disha, and 22-year-old Diya — as well as the Hindu Panchayat — police recovered all four on Thursday and arrested the suspect allegedly responsible for the conversions. The three sisters and their cousin had left home without informing their families on Wednesday morning. Later that day, they released video messages stating they had accepted Islam of their own free will, without coercion. They also claimed they feared being harmed by their families for their decision. At a press conference, the mothers of the siblings — visibly distressed and weeping — accused a local computer teacher, Farhan Khaskheli, of brainwashing and abducting the children. "I want my son back. He is only 13 years old and cannot understand religion," said Hunain Kumar's mother, breaking down in tears. She appealed directly to Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to help recover her son. The girls' mother also held Khaskheli responsible for the alleged conversion and abduction. "I have three daughters, and Khaskheli has taken all of them," she said through tears. Rajesh Kumar, head of the Hindu Panchayat, described the incident as not just a family tragedy, but a communal one. "These girls are not just daughters of Hindus — they are daughters of Sindh," he said, while showing their photos and questioning whether they were mature enough to decide to change their religion. Kumar added that the Hindu community had always lived in harmony with their Muslim neighbours and actively participated in Islamic festivals and local customs. He thanked civil society and politicians for their support and announced that the panchayat had held an emergency meeting in Sanghar on Wednesday. Sanghar SSP Ghulam Nabi Keerio visited the panchayat during the meeting and assured the community of swift police action. The FIR was registered on the basis of the parents' complaint.

Illegal weapons, liquor case: Gandapur's non-bailable arrest warrants suspended

ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case related to alleged possession of illegal weapons and liquor. Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hussain Chishti, while hearing the case registered at Bhara Kahu police station, suspended Gandpur's warrants. Gandapur appeared before Mubashir Hassan Chishti along with his legal team, marking his first appearance in the case after issuance of his warrant. During proceedings, Gandpur's counsel Raja Zahoorul Hasan told the court that his client personally appeared before the court. He informed the court that the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had already granted interim bail to the chief minister until July 3. He requested the court to suspend the non-bailable arrest warrants following Gandapur's court appearance. In response, the court asked about the submission of a statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), to which Gandapur assured that the required responses would be submitted after the presentation of the provincial budget. The court approved Gandapur's request and suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants and adjourned the hearing until July 2. It is pertinent to mention here that the court had issued an arrest warrant for Gandapur on September 4, 2024 for not appearing before the court. Gandapur, while talking to the media after appearing before the court, criticised the ongoing legal actions against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and party workers. He stated that numerous cases against the PTI founding chairman and workers are wasting their time and energy. 'These cases are wasting the time and energy of our leadership and workers,' he said, adding that 'once the judiciary is truly independent and all institutions operate within constitutional limits, such challenges will naturally end.' He condemned the recent Israeli attacks on Iran and Palestine and expressed solidarity with both nations. Gandapur also expressed a desire to witness and participate in 'Ghazwa-e-Hind.' To a question about US President Donald Trump and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir's meeting, he said that he had no information and therefore could not comment.
