Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 26 (ANI): Thousands of devotees offered prayers at Kamakhya Devi temple in Assam's Guwahati on Monday morning on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
Somvati Amavasya holds a special significance in Hinduism, wherein devotees perform bathing, charity, worship, and rituals for their ancestors.
Neeraj Pathak, who hails from Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, expressed his happiness at visiting the Kamakhya Devi temple on Somvati Amavasya. 'I feel very good. I am from Bhopal and it was a good Darshan.'
Another devotee, Neelam Pathak, said, 'I liked it very much; it was very relaxed.'
Somvati Amavasya is dedicated to worshipping ancestors or forefathers, and hence, people are advised to use it to get rid of 'Pitru Dosha'.
An Amavasya falling on Mondays has a special significance and hence is being celebrated as Somvati Amavasya to honour ancestors.
Thousands of devotees converged in Haridwar early Monday morning to take a holy dip in the river Ganga on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
Pilgrims from various parts of the country gathered at the ghats to perform these sacred practices, driven by the belief that such acts bring blessings, prosperity, and divine grace.
Ashwini Kumar, who had come from Delhi to take a holy dip in the river Ganga, said, 'We keep coming here, and at least when we do, we take a bath two or three times. It feels very good; it feels very religious, and there is some kind of atmosphere.'
Umesh Kaushik, who hails from Haryana, was visiting Haridwar with his friends. 'We have come here to bathe in the Ganga on Somvati Amavasya, and this is a very good, auspicious Nakshatra. Which we have had the opportunity to bathe in. By bathing in the Ganges. This is a very auspicious moment for us that we have come to bathe in the Ganges today.' (ANI)

The affected passengers were either accommodated on alternate flights or offered a full refund," according to the ANI sources. This comes only a few days after an IndiGo flight from Guwahati to Chennai was forced to divert to Bengaluru after the pilot issued a 'fuel mayday' call due to insufficient fuel in the plane. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday. According to ANI sources, the diversion was necessary as Chennai airport was facing heavy air traffic. 'The diversion occurred because of congestion at Chennai airport, which prevented the aircraft from landing there in time. Passengers were on board during the emergency reroute," they said. The aircraft landed safely at Bengaluru airport at 8:15 PM, where arrangements were made to ensure passengers' comfort during the unscheduled stop. 'During the refuelling process, passengers were provided refreshments, and their baggage was offloaded. Due to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), the airline had to arrange for a fresh crew," sources added. The flight resumed its journey and subsequently departed for Chennai at 10:24 PM. Odisha CM Majhi conducts review meeting ahead of Rath Yatra, says AI camera, drone camera to be used for surveillance

Puri (Odisha) [India], June 22 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday conducted a review meeting at the Town Hall of Puri Municipality regarding the preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra scheduled to begin on June 27. He stated that the administration is fully prepared to conduct the Rath Yatra smoothly. Majhi said, 'We held a meeting today to ensure efficient preparations for the Rath Yatra. The final review meeting is over. Today was the final meeting on security review. We discussed everything in detail. We are taking various steps for security in view of the incidents that happen every year. We deployed coast guards at sea, called in security forces. We have taken several steps to control traffic. AI camera and drone camera will be used for surveillance, and helicopters will also be used if required.' During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of making the Rath Yatra completely incident-free. He instructed the administration to ensure that all operations -- police deployment, traffic control, fire safety measures, etc. -- are properly managed so that devotees can participate in the Yatra in an orderly and disciplined manner. Considering the recent outbreak of diarrhoea in some districts in the State, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for the Health Department and other related departments to remain vigilant until the end of the Sunabesha ritual. 'It is crucial to ensure that no contaminated food or water is sold anywhere, and that safe drinking water and hygienic food are available at all locations,' he said. The CM also expressed the need for the rituals of Mahaprabhu to proceed in a timely and disciplined manner, and hoped for full cooperation from the Sevayats (temple servitors). He remarked that the world-famous Rath Yatra is the most glorious symbol of the state's culture, with deep emotional connections for millions of people. Hence, its smooth conduct is not merely a government responsibility, but a sacred duty. He advised all officials, employees, and representatives of various non-governmental organisations to coordinate and ensure its successful management. Preparations are underway in full swing for the Jagannath Rath Yatra, scheduled to begin on June 27, with the Return Car Festival, or 'Bahuda Jatra', set to take place on July 5. (ANI)

Air India Birmingham-New Delhi flight diverted to Riyadh after bomb threat; lands safely

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Air India flight AI-114 from Birmingham to New Delhi received a bomb threat on Saturday, after which it was diverted to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely, Air India said on Sunday. A spokesperson for the airline said the plane was thoroughly inspected and all the checks have been completed. 'Flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 received a bomb threat and was consequently diverted to Riyadh, where it landed safely and completed security checks,' Air India spokesperson said. Earlier, an Air India Express flight from Delhi to Patna was diverted to Varanasi due to adverse weather conditions. An airline spokesperson said that Air India Express flight IX1014 from Delhi (DEL) to Patna (PAT) on 21 June 2025 was diverted to Varanasi (VNS). 'Due to adverse weather conditions, one of our flights to Patna was diverted briefly to Varanasi. When the weather improved, the flight resumed and landed in Patna. We regret the delay caused by circumstances beyond our control,' the spokesperson said. On Friday, Air India cancelled several international and domestic flights due to increased aircraft checks, bad weather, and airspace restrictions. Affected flights include services between Dubai, Chennai, Delhi, Melbourne, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. According to an Air India's statement, 'Air India's international flights AI906 from Dubai to Chennai; AI308 from Delhi to Melbourne; AI309 from Melbourne to Delhi; AI2204 from Dubai to Hyderabad and domestic flights AI874 from Pune to Delhi; AI456 from Ahmedabad to Delhi; AI-2872 from Hyderabad to Mumbai and AI571 from Chennai to Mumbai have been cancelled due to enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.' The airline has offered full refunds or free rescheduling and is helping passengers with alternate travel plans. 'We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Our colleagues on ground are making alternative arrangements for them to fly to their respective destinations at the earliest. Full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling has been offered to passengers,' it said. (ANI)
