1,659 Indiramma house beneficiaries get papers
Warangal: The previous (BRS) government, which promised double-bedroom houses to the shelterless, failed, but the Congress is fulfilling the Indiramma Houses dream of the poor, Minister for Environment, Forests and Endowments Konda Surekha said. Distributing Indiramma House sanction proceedings to the beneficiaries on Monday, she said that the Congress Government had sanctioned 3,500 houses to each constituency, providing Rs 5 lakh in monetary assistance. In all, 20 lakh houses will be constructed for the poor.
Konda Surekha said that she distributed Indiramma Houses sanction proceedings to 1,659 beneficiaries in the Warangal East constituency. The other beneficiaries would get sanction proceedings after verification. She urged the beneficiaries to complete their houses as early as possible.
Greater Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudharani stated that all eligible beneficiaries would receive Indiramma houses, phase-wise. She hailed the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, for introducing several welfare and developmental programmes, especially for women. Warragal district collector Satya Sharada said that they have maintained utmost transparency in implementing the Indiramma housing scheme. The Rs 5 lakh would be credited to the accounts of beneficiaries in three phases. Sand will be supplied free of cost to the beneficiaries, she said.
Former MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao said that efforts are on to sanction Indiramma houses to all the eligible in the Warangal East constituency. Those living in slums would get land pattas.
GWMC Commissioner Chahat Bajpai urged the Indiramma beneficiaries to ground their units within 10 days.

HC stays state relief for Group-C & D jobless school staff
Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday stayed till Sept 26 the state's interim relief for Group C and Group D employees of state-run schools who lost their jobs following a Supreme Court order on April 3. Another section of candidates, who were wait-listed, moved the HC praying for a stay on the state scheme as it "frustrated" the SC order. Justice Amrita Sinha held that people whose jobs were terminated by the SC order could not be provided such a support after the apex court had decided the issue of illegal appointments conclusively and opined that the appointments were a result of "fraud". Getting refund of the money already disbursed to the beneficiaries would be a problem if the state scheme was found to be in violation of law after the final hearing, she reasoned. The court also took note of the fact that the state welfare scheme was announced for a particular group who would not be doing any work for the state. "Paying persons gratuitously, who are not serving the state but are either sitting at home or are engaged elsewhere, does not appeal to the court," Justice Sinha held, adding that the state had applied a "pick and choose" method for determining the beneficiaries of the welfare scheme. "There are two sets of candidates. One set comprises appointed candidates whose jobs were terminated and the other set comprises the wait-listed candidates. Both sets are jobless now," Justice Sinha said, holding that the state scheme for a particular group "intended to provide succour to the tainted terminated candidates". Justice Sinha acknowledged the state's legislative competence to formulate a welfare scheme but held that such a scheme should be applied equally. The court did not buy the state's argument that the petitioners should not have approached the HC when a review petition by the state was pending before the SC. It recalled that the state had proceeded to publish the scheme when its own review petition was pending before the apex court. Justice Sinha directed the petitioners to file affidavits within four weeks and the state to file an affidavit in reply within a fortnight after that before the petition would come up for hearing next.

Patole & Patel slug it out as sparks fly over graft
Nagpur: The ongoing slugfest between former Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole and former Union civil aviation minister Praful Patel reached a flashpoint on Friday after the former accused Patel of being responsible for irregularities during his 2011–12 tenure in the UPA govt. Patole's reply came days after Patel termed him as "chillar (petty)" leader, claiming he was being sidelined in Congress after stepping down as MPCC president. Their rivalry began after Patole caused a major upset by defeating Patel, a heavyweight candidate in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, Patole was a Congress MLA from Sakoli when Patel was aviation minister and both were in the same govt. Citing objections raised by the Accountant General at the time, Patole claimed Patel cleared questionable civil aviation deals without consequence. "Despite audit red flags, no action was taken. Now, those individuals enjoy protection under the BJP-led Centre. Talking to reporters, Patole also accused Election Commission of India (ECI) of colluding with the Centre to erase electoral accountability. He condemned a May 30 circular by the ECI instructing state CEOs to destroy all polling-related CCTV footage and documents within 45 days of polling. "This is the first time in independent India that critical poll evidence is being legally destroyed. Citizens would access these materials to challenge outcomes. That right is gone now," he said. He cited a December 2024 ruling by the Punjab and Haryana High Court that mandated preserving such records and accused the Centre of acting in haste. "Within 48 hours of the ECI's letter to the govt, Rule 93 of the Conduct of Election Rules was amended. This cannot be coincidental, it proves collusion," Patole said. After TCS, AP govt allots land to Cognizant in Vizag
Vijayawada: Continuing its aggressive incentive policy stand, Andhra Pradesh govt has decided to allot land to another IT major, Cognizant Technology Solutions , at 99 paisa per acre in Visakhapatnam. The 21.31 acres will be allotted at Kapuluppada area in the city. The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), in its recent meeting, approved the proposal of Cognizant to invest Rs 1,583 crore in its new ITES/IT campus. The state govt earlier allotted about 21 acres to another IT services major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), at 99 paisa per acre. The new campus of TCS is likely to be launched by the end of July. TCS has promised to provide 12,000 jobs. IT minister Nara Lokesh earlier announced that the govt is ready to give land to top IT companies at the same price as that of TCS if they come up with a promise of creating employment opportunities for local youth. "The state govt is committed to turn Visakhapatnam into the IT capital of Andhra Pradesh and a new investment destination for companies. To kick off the investment cycle rolling, a trigger is needed, and TCS will be that moment," Lokesh said earlier, justifying the allotment of land at almost free of cost to TCS. The discussions with Cognizant were initiated during the World Economic Forum summit in Davos. According to sources, Cognizant is planning its investment in three phases. The company has set a target of March 2029 for commencement of commercial operations. The project will be 100% self-funded. Together, TCS and Cognizant will bring 20,000 IT jobs to Visakhapatnam. Apart from direct employment, every job in the IT sector is expected to create indirect employment for four people. Besides TCS and Cognizant, Google is also planning to set shop in Visakhapatnam, which, according to sources, will be another major turning point in creating a whole ecosystem in new and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and data centres.
