Kuwait's government intensifies efforts to speed up housing development

KUWAIT: Minister of State for Municipal and Housing Affairs, Abdullatif Al-Meshari, Minister of Public Works Dr Noura Al-Mushaan, and Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Dr Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem discussed the recommendations of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, regarding the provision of services related to housing projects. This came in a statement by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to KUNA following a meeting held by the Coordinating Committee to Follow Up on the Provision of Services Related to Housing Projects on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Minister Al-Mishari, with the attendance of the Ministers of Public Works and Electricity as well as senior officials from relevant government agencies.
The statement said the committee reviewed the Prime Minister's recommendations and instructed those concerned to accelerate the removal of obstacles. The committee also reviewed the progress achieved in housing welfare projects and the commitment to their specified timelines. The ministers emphasized their keenness to monitor the implementation of housing welfare projects in line with the directives of the political leadership, ensuring suitable housing for citizens, developing infrastructure, and achieving the highest standards of quality in work. They praised the cooperation among concerned authorities regarding remarks on some obstacles within their jurisdiction in the housing welfare projects, which contributes to formulating a strategy to overcome these challenges.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah had chaired Monday, a meeting of the Coordinating Committee to Follow Up on the Provision of Services Related to Housing Projects. He directed the removal of obstacles facing current projects and called for joint work among relevant entities to eliminate what hinders speeding up the pace of work in these projects. The committee's work aims to accelerate the pace of work, ensure implementation according to the set timeline, and resolve any issues that may arise during the progress of the projects. — KUNA

Kuwait marks 64th Independence Day
State has made many accomplishments at many levels over the past six decades KUWAIT: Kuwait on Thursday celebrated its 64th independence anniversary, a joyous occasion that marked a new chapter in the northern Gulf state, which took its first steps in the journey of development. The late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed the Declaration of Independence with the British Chief Political Resident in the Arabian Gulf Sir George Middleton, ending the protectorate agreement and paving the way for a journey of development. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem said: 'On this day of our beloved nation ... On this day we move from one stage to another stage of history, and we fold a page from the past ... and open a new page through this agreement through which Kuwait earned its complete independence and full sovereignty.' Three years after the declaration, a decree was signed on May 18, 1964 merging the national day with the day in which Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem assumed office, making it February 25. Celebrations have been held on that day since 1965. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem took carefully measured steps for this day since assuming office in 1950, securing independence and paving the way for adopting a constitution. He signed a decree on August 26, 1961 to hold elections of the Constituent Assembly, mandated with writing the constitution. The 183-article constitution was completed in nine months, and it laid the foundations for a sturdy democratic regime, putting the Kuwaiti people on a path of progress and prosperity. On Sept 7, 1961, an Amiri decree was signed specifying the shape and colors of the Kuwaiti flag, the very first flag to be flown following independence. Kuwait has made many accomplishments at many levels over the past 64 years, meeting the aspirations of citizens, playing a major role in regional and international issues, and becoming a global humanitarian center. Kuwait became member of the Arab League on July 20, 1961. The UN Security Council began considering on Nov 30, 1961 Kuwait's application to join the United Nations, and on May 14, 1963, the application was approved and Kuwait became the UN's 111th member. The 15-year reign of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem, who was dubbed the 'Father of Independence' and 'Father of the Constitution', was peppered with achievements. At that time, Kuwait accomplished 43 laws and legislation, including the nationality law, monetary law, passports law and the organization of government departments. New departments were established to cope with the development of the nation, like public works, health, publication, knowledge, municipality, post and telephone, electricity and water, social affairs, awqaf and radio and television. Kuwait remains on a steady path of preventative diplomacy, crisis mediation and efforts contributing to solving outstanding regional and international issues. — KUNA

Kuwaitis evacuated from Iran begin arriving home
KUWAIT: The first group of Kuwaiti citizens evacuated from Iran arrived safely in Kuwait early Saturday morning, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues its full-scale emergency plan to secure the return of nationals stranded in the neighboring country. The flight, operated directly by Kuwait Airways, landed at Terminal 4 of Kuwait International Airport just after midnight, carrying 334 Kuwaiti men and women. The passengers had been transported overland to the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, where they boarded the evacuation flight. Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah received the returnees at the airport. The evacuation is part of Kuwait's proactive strategy to protect its people in light of the escalating conflict between Iran and the Zionist entity, who have traded missiles for nine days. No injuries have been reported among Kuwaiti nationals in Iran since the start of Zionist airstrikes last week, which have killed at least 430 people according to Iranian authorities. 'We thank the governments of Iran and Turkmenistan for facilitating the safe transfer of our citizens," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. ‘Secured schools' to serve as an alternative place for Husseiniyas
KUWAIT CITY, June 21, (Agencies): First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusef Saud Al-Sabah revealed on Thursday that 'secured schools' with the highest safety standards would serve as alternative locations for religious rituals. Al-Yusuf's remarks came during his meeting with officials and representatives of Husseiniyas and places of worship, according to a ministry statement. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf stressed the political leadership's keenness to secure this year's rituals and ensure the safety of Husseiniya goers, while taking into consideration regional conditions and circumstances. He also pointed out the importance of 'adhering to the instructions and regulations governing the event,' emphasising the need to harness all logistical capabilities and necessary security measures in this regard. Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Hamad Ahmad Al-Muneeficonfirmed, during his meeting with officials and representatives of Husseiniyas and other places of worship, that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef has issued instructions to facilitate all procedures related to securing these sites, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Major General Al-Muneefi welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of adhering to Decree-Law No. 73/2025, which amends certain provisions of Law No. 26/1961 concerning the national flag of the State of Kuwait. Article 1 of the decree prohibits the raising of flags and slogans that symbolise religious, social, tribal groups, or sects. During the meeting, Major General Al-Muneefi affirmed the importance of adhering to security regulations and instructions governing religious rituals. He highlighted the ban on setting up tents, blocking streets, using loudspeakers outside Husseiniyas, and organising marches.
