Harlech Foodservice one of UK's best places to work
Harlech Foodservice, which has a base in Carmarthen, earned a spot on The Sunday Times' 2025 list of the best employers.
The company operates across south west Wales, including Pembrokeshire.
Laura Griffiths, Harlech's key account manager, said: "I started with Harlech in February last year and the company being family-owned was one of the reasons I joined.
"In the time I have been here for example I have had a promotion.
"I came in as a business development manager and then had my promotion in April this year.
"I think that strategy of promoting from within is one of the reasons why Harlech was listed in the Sunday Times as one of the best places to work."
The Sunday Times described Harlech Foodservice as a business that 'cares passionately about the morale of its 245-strong workforce,' noting that 20 per cent of employees were promoted internally last year.
The company also offers staff discounts, a pension scheme, a cycle-to-work programme, a wellbeing scheme and a Christmas hamper.
David Cattrall, managing director, said: "I am chuffed to bits quite honestly.
"We have been driving sales growth in the last couple of years and to make it happen we knew the first thing we had to do was invest in our people, and strengthen our people from top to bottom."
He said the company's family-owned roots remain central to its identity.
Mr Cattrall said: "What we try to maintain as we grow is that small business feeling where everybody knows each other.
"We want people to be able to speak to each other, it's that small family feel that we are trying to maintain.
"We don't want to lose that informality you get in a small business."
He said the company prioritises promoting staff from within.
Mr Cattrall said: "I'm very keen on making sure that new opportunities are offered to people within the company first, so they can grow and prosper."
The Sunday Times recognition comes just months after Harlech was named best UK food wholesaler by The Caterer magazine.
Zoe Thomas, editor of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, said: "The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list is the UK's biggest survey of employee engagement, compiled in partnership with workplace expert WorkL.
"These organisations know that happy employees are the superpower helping them thrive."

Euromillions £208m winner comes forward to claim jackpot
The winner of this week's huge EuroMillions jackpot has come forward to claim the prize. It is the 18th Irish winner and the largest ever Irish win of the Euromillions jackpot The winner of the colossal £208m (€250m) EuroMillions jackpot has stepped forward to claim their staggering prize. The winning ticket was bought in a shop in Co Cork, Ireland, and following an appeal for the ticketholder to come forward, one individual has now claimed the life-altering sum. This marks the 18th Irish win and the biggest ever Irish victory in the EuroMillions jackpot history. The previous Irish EuroMillions jackpot win occurred in February 2022, when a lucky player scooped up €30.9 million with a quick pick ticket from a service station in Ballina, Co Tipperary. Tuesday's draw saw the numbers 13, 22, 23, 44 and 49 emerge victorious, along with lucky stars 3 and 5. Cian Murphy, the chief executive of the Irish National Lottery, had earlier advised the winner to "stay calm" as the "massive" win might be overwhelming. The EuroMillions jackpot is capped at €250 million - equivalent to £208 million. This particular jackpot hit its cap on Friday June 6 after multiple rollovers. The EuroMillions prize fund is limited to €250m (or £208m), giving players five draws to win the life-changing amount, reports the Mirror. Despite the single fortunate winner, other players are being reminded to check their tickets for potential smaller wins. The new multimillionaire now finds themselves wealthier than footballer Harry Kane and pop sensation Dua Lipa, who have net worths of £115 million and £110 million respectively, and could rub shoulders with individuals featured in The Sunday Times Rich List 2025. "The EuroMillions jackpot of 250 million euro has been won in Ireland," announced the Irish operator on X on draw night. More than 92,000 players across Ireland scooped prizes in both EuroMillions and Plus games during this recent draw. The €250 million (£208 million) jackpot has made one Munster resident's dreams a reality. Speaking to RTE Radio, National Lottery spokesperson Emma Moaghan revealed: "Someone in Ireland is a quarter of a billion euro richer this morning." Whether the new multimillionaire will remain under wraps or step into the spotlight is yet to be determined. Moaghan confirmed that the "eye-watering" prize-winning ticket was procured from a shop rather than through an online purchase or a mobile application. She advised: "If at all possible stay calm, I know that might be easier said than done. Have a cup of tea and let it sink in." This monumental win equals the record set by an Austrian player back in March who bagged the first-ever €250 million EuroMillions jackpot. Since jackpots are currently capped at this figure, the record is expected to stand for the foreseeable future. Munster lottery participants are urged to double-check their tickets. Cian Murphy, CEO of the Irish National Lottery, expressed excitement about the historic win: "We are absolutely thrilled to see this incredible and record win for an Irish EuroMillions player." Lottery players are being urged to double-check their tickets and if they've hit the jackpot, to sign the back of their ticket, keep it secure, and get in touch with National Lottery HQ for further assistance. "We are advising our players to check their tickets and if they are the winner, sign the back of the ticket, keep it safe, and contact National Lottery HQ and we will guide you through the claims process," officials noted. The UK's Millionaire Maker Selection victor for Tuesday night's draw was confirmed as XPCD66044. Marking a record for a British ticket holder, one lucky individual scooped an astounding £195.7 million on July 19 2022, remaining anonymous. In light of the enormous €250 million jackpot prize, accredited financial planner Eoin McGee has cautioned the winning ticket holder to proceed with caution regarding their windfall. McGee offered his guidance to the Irish Mirror: "My advice is do absolutely nothing, except sign the back of the ticket. Ring the Lotto and confirm you have the winning ticket, but then sit back and tell nobody apart from your inner circle. "Don't make any big decisions now. This is life-changing. I tell Lotto winners to remember that the things which made you happy before this win are the same things that are going to make you happy afterwards. "Life will be different, but if you do not manage this properly, it can ruin you. This €250m can ruin you. Be careful about your decisions and any promises you're making. "Even be careful about telling your children how much they're going to get. Make no promises. It is a time of celebration and joy and being happy about it, but in the first six months, do not spend more than €10,000 on any one item."

World's richest footballer is worth £20billion – 40 times more than David and Victoria Beckham
World's richest footballer is worth £20billion – 40 times more than David and Victoria Beckham David Beckham was recently knighted for his services to football and charity, with the former England captain and his wife Victoria boasting an estimated net worth of £500million David Beckham and his wife Victoria have amassed a combined fortune of roughly £500million (Image: Getty Images ) Sir David Beckham's long-awaited Knighthood has further solidified his standing as a beloved national figure, recognised for his services to charity and to sport. The 50-year-old, together with his wife Victoria, has constructed an empire that reaches well beyond football, with their combined wealth estimated at £500million, according to The Sunday Times Rich List. However, this figure is dwarfed by the astonishing fortune of Faiq Bolkiah, the world's wealthiest footballer, whose net worth is reported to be around £20billion - approximately 40 times that of the Beckhams. Bolkiah, a 27-year-old winger who was once part of Chelsea's academy, is a member of the Brunei Royal family. His vast wealth primarily stems from his familial ties as the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah. Unlike Beckham, whose wealth originates from a distinguished career with Manchester United, Real Madrid and numerous profitable endorsements, Bolkiah's fortune is largely inherited. The Brunei Royal family's extensive assets include oil and gas reserves, luxury properties, and investments that surpass the earnings of even the most successful athletes. Article continues below While Bolkiah's football career has brought him modest earnings, his Royal status situates him in a financial league all his own. In contrast, the Beckhams have carefully amassed their wealth through football, fashion, and media endeavours, reports the Mirror. Beckham's illustrious career, which boasts 115 caps for England and numerous league titles, set the stage. His ventures post-retirement, including co-ownership of Inter Miami and securing lucrative sponsorships with brands such as Adidas and Haig Club, have significantly amplified their wealth. Bolkiah is the world's wealthiest football player (Image: Getty Images ) Victoria's fashion empire, especially her namesake label, has contributed further millions to their fortune. The couple's business savvy is evident in their £70m in company assets and £40m in dividends over recent years. However, Bolkiah operates on a different level. His wealth affords him a lifestyle that includes private jets and supercars, making the Beckhams' collection of Bentleys and Range Rovers appear modest in comparison. While Beckham and his wife Victoria's property portfolio, encompassing a Notting Hill townhouse, a Cotswolds mansion and a Miami penthouse, is impressive, Bolkiah's access to grand residences across Brunei and beyond is unmatched. Article continues below Despite his immense wealth, Bolkiah maintains a relatively low profile in football, concentrating on his career in Thailand and with the Brunei national team rather than pursuing global fame. He currently plays for Ratchaburi, having transferred from fellow Thai League 1 club Chonburi in 2023. Before this, he was signed to Portuguese club Maritimo, but never made a senior appearance for the team. Bolkiah spent most of his youth career in England, initially with Southampton, then Chelsea and later Leicester. However, he was unable to secure a professional contract despite being an international footballer (he's earned six caps for Brunei) since 2016.
