GE2025: Red Dot United says election results encouraging despite losses, vows to return in 5 years

SINGAPORE: The swing in votes towards the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) this General Election was not a surprise, but the results were encouraging for Red Dot United (RDU), party secretary-general Ravi Philemon said.
Speaking to reporters in the early hours of Sunday (May 4) near RDU's office in Ubi Crescent, he said the world is in a time of turmoil, and it is reasonable for voters to look for a 'safe harbour' in these times.
'I think in this GE, the people have spoken,' he said.
'The PAP has been the government for the past 60 years, and it is understandable why the people have given the PAP the kind of mandate that they have.'
Mr Philemon congratulated Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, describing the win as a 'heavy responsibility'.
'I hope he keeps the trust of the people. Red Dot United will keep our prime minister on his toes in the next five years, that is for sure,' he said.
While RDU did not get the mandate in any of the constituencies it contested, the results were 'very, very encouraging', he added.
HOW DID RED DOT UNITED DO?
RDU fielded 15 candidates across three Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) and one Single Member Constituency (SMC). Nine of its candidates stood for election for the first time.
The party's Nee Soon team performed best, receiving 26.19 per cent of the vote in the GRC. In Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC, the RDU team finished with 23.34 per cent of the vote.
Its candidates in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC obtained 20.71 per cent of the vote, while Ms Kala Manickam got 19.49 per cent in Jurong Central SMC.

PM Wong to deliver National Day Rally speech on Aug 17

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver his 2025 National Day Rally speech on Aug 17. The rally will be held at Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central in Ang Mo Kio, the Prime Minister's Office said on Thursday (Jun 19). The National Day Rally is seen as the most important political speech of the year, when the prime minister addresses the nation and makes key policy announcements. This year's event will be Mr Wong's second National Day Rally, as well as his first since leading the ruling People's Action Party to victory in this year's General Election. At last year's National Day Rally, Mr Wong unveiled the , under which retrenched workers can receive temporary financial support of up to S$6,000 (US$4,670) over six months. Among the other initiatives announced at last year's National Day Rally were a revamp of the Gifted Education Programme and a review of rules and processes for companies to reduce the regulatory burden on them. WP co-opts 4 rookie MPs into CEC, NCMP Eileen Chong to head youth wing

[SINGAPORE] The Workers' Party has co-opted two of its rookie MPs and its two new Non-Constituency MPs (NCMPs) into its central executive committee – its highest decision-making body. Sengkang GRC newcomer Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik has been appointed deputy organising secretary, while Aljunied GRC rookie Kenneth Tiong has been appointed deputy treasurer, the party said in a statement on Jun 18. NCMP Eileen Chong will be the new president of the party's youth wing, while fellow NCMP Andre Low is now the deputy head of its media team, it added. Chong will take the post from Sengkang MP Jamus Lim. In its statement, the WP expressed its appreciation to Dr Lim for his contributions to the youth wing's development. These appointments followed a CEC meeting on Jun 17, the statement added. There are no other changes in appointments to the other CEC members, who will continue to be led by secretary-general Pritam Singh and chair Sylvia Lim, it said.
