MG Windsor EV has earned quite a positive response from the consumers since its launch in India. Currently available with a 38 kWh battery pack, the MG Windsor EV is now ready to receive a bigger battery pack, a 50.6 kWh unit, which will promise a longer range on a full charge for the electric car compared to the current model. The long range version of the Windsor EV is likely to launch in India sometime next month and will start reaching MG soon after that.
The updated iteration of the MG Windsor EV will come without any change to the dimensional figures of the electric car. However, it could come with new design alloy wheels. The only major upgrade to the EV will be the bigger battery pack. Powering the long range version of the MG Windsor EV will be a 50.6 kWh battery pack, which will deliver a range of 460 kilometre on a full charge, which is same as the MG ZS EV.

However, it is not clear if it will come carrying the same PMS motor as the current model or not. The front wheel drive motor onboard the Upcoming MG Windsor EV long range model would come churning out 131.3 bhp peak power and 200 Nm of maximum torque. It will enable the electric vehicle to run at a top speed of 175 kmph. The existing Windsor EV comes with the exact same numbers. The EV currently comes promising 20-100 per cent charge in seven hours, while using a DC fast charger, it can be topped up from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
The upcoming long range version of the MG Windsor EV would come commanding a premium of ₹ 4 lakh over the existing model's top trim. In that case, the upcoming long version of Windsor EV would come directly challenging the Tata Curvv.ev and the Mahindra BE6.

Uno Minda gains as board approves Rs 210-cr aluminium die casting plant in Maharashtra

Uno Minda added 2.23% after the company's board has approved the setting up of a greenfield manufacturing facility for aluminium die casting in Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra for Rs 210 crore. This strategic expansion is aimed at meeting the rapidly growing demand for casting components, particularly in electric two- and fourwheelers (e-2Ws and e-4Ws). With the accelerating shift towards electric mobility, aluminium die casting has become a critical enabler for developing lightweight and high-performance vehicle platforms. Electric vehicles (EVs) require significantly more aluminium-based structural and thermal components compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, making advanced die casting capabilities essential for EV powertrain and body applications. Uno Minda's upcoming facility will play a strategic role in supporting its backward integration efforts by supplying key casting components to its planned four-wheeler EV powertrain plant. The new facility will be located in Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, ensuring logistical efficiency and proximity to both the EV powertrain plant and other major OEM customers in the region. The project entails a total planned capital investment of approximately Rs 210 crore, to be executed in a phased manner over the next five years. The investment will be funded through a balanced mix of internal accruals and debt. Phase 1 of the plant is expected to commence commercial operations by Q2 FY27. The investment underscores Uno Mindas long-term commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing, enhancing localisation, and maintaining a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape. The companys consolidated net profit declined 7.5% year-on-year to Rs 266.21 crore in Q4 FY25, even as revenue from operations rose 19.4% to Rs 4,528.32 crore. Uno Minda is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of advanced automotive technology and systems to OEMs. They design and manufacture over 25 categories of components and systems for vehicles across all segments (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two- and three-wheelers) catering to both internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric/hybrid vehicles.

This strategic expansion is aimed at meeting the rapidly growing demand for casting components, particularly in electric two- and four wheelers (e-2Ws and e-4Ws). Aluminium die casting is believed to be essential for creating lightweight, high-performance vehicle platforms. Electric vehicles (EV) need more aluminium-based parts for structure and thermal management than traditional internal combustion vehicles, making advanced die casting crucial for EV powertrains and body components. According to the reports, the upcoming facility will play a vital role in supporting Uno Minda's backward integration strategy by supplying essential casting components to its forthcoming 4W-EV powertrain plant. India finalises ₹5,000 crore incentive scheme for rare earths mineral production

India has firmed up a ₹3,500-5,000 crore scheme to incentivise production of rare earth minerals and derived magnets in the country and could be approved in a fortnight, a top government official said. "The priority is to start domestic-critical mineral production in the shortest time period," the official told ET. The sops under the proposed scheme will be offered through a reverse auction process, the official said. The decision to offer incentives for rare earths comes after an internal ministerial review flagged the need for diversification in the wake of acute dependence on Chinese imports. "Fresh steps are being taken to boost domestic availability of critical minerals," he said, adding that at least five large domestic companies had informally expressed keenness to produce these in consultations with the government. China has a near monopoly of the world's supply of rare earth magnets and has curbs on exports. These critical minerals needed in the manufacture of rare earth magnets are crucial for making cars, electric vehicles (EVs) and the renewable energy infrastructure. Industry, particularly the automobile industry, has flagged the detrimental impact of the Chinese curbs and sought government intervention. Beijing in April made a special export licences mandatory for export of seven rare earth elements and related magnets. India's EV and wind turbine makers are the largest demand centres for rare earth elements, cornering over half the entire 4010 metric tonne domestic demand in 2025. Overall demand is expected to more than double to 8220 metric tonnes by 2030. Besides, the government is also planning an amendment to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act to support the critical mineral mission. Besides regulatory tweaks, the Centre is also expecting commercially viable domestic production of rare earth permanent magnets in small quantities later this year. The ministry of science and technology had sanctioned funding for Midwest Advanced Materials Private Ltd , Hyderabad.
