T-Mobile US boss set to leave post early, Handelsblatt newspaper reports
FRANKFURT :The head of T-Mobile U.S., the fast-growing and profitable subsidiary of Germany's Deutsche Telekom, is due to step aside before the end of his current contract, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported on Monday.
Deutsche Telekom did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report.
Handelsblatt reported Mike Sievert, who has headed the mobile operator since 2020, wanted to take a break and that Chief Operating Officer Srini Gopalan, until recently head of Deutsche Telekom's Germany business, was a leading candidate to succeed him.
The chief executive would step down this year or next, the newspaper added.
Previously facing troubles, T-Mobile has become a revenue and profit driver in recent years. Thanks to strong figures from the U.S. mobile operator, Deutsche Telekom has raised its earnings targets several times.
T-Mobile U.S. customer growth fell short of expectations at the beginning of the year due to an intensified price war. The subsidiary nonetheless aims to win 5.5 to 6 million new users by 2025.
Sievert, who joined T-Mobile as marketing head in 2012, had been due to remain in post until 2028.

Liverpool have signed Germany's Florian Wirtz from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, the Premier League champions said on Friday, as they smashed their transfer record to seal a deal for the attacking midfielder. Wirtz was instrumental at Leverkusen, leading them to an undefeated domestic league and Cup double in the 2023-24 season while they went two league seasons without an away defeat. The German bagged 57 goals and provided 65 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen, having joined the club from Cologne in 2020. He scored 16 goals, with 15 assists, in 45 matches last season as Leverkusen finished second to Bayern. Capped 31 times by his country since his debut in 2021, Wirtz is the only player to register 10 or more goals and assists in the last two Bundesliga seasons. MIDFIELD OPTIONS While his arrival will add to Liverpool manager Arne Slot's midfield options, alongside Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones, Wirtz's versatility means he can also play on the left wing or as a false nine. His signing is a statement of intent from Liverpool as they look to build on their success under Slot, the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League and the sixth coach to win the title in their first season. "I would like to win everything every year! First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work," Wirtz added. "In the end, we want to be successful. Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious." He becomes Liverpool's second addition of the transfer window after they signed Dutch right back Jeremie Frimpong, also from Leverkusen. Dassault Aviation gets French government support for its VORTEX spaceplane demonstrator
PARIS :Dassault Aviation and the French government signed on Friday an agreement whereby France's armed forces ministry would support the development of Dassault Aviation's VORTEX spaceplane demonstrator. The agreement was signed at the Paris Airshow between French armed forces minister Sebastien Lecornu and Dassault Aviation CEO and Chairman Eric Trappier. The government support for the Dassault Aviation VORTEX project comes as President Emmanuel Macron on Friday threw France's backing behind plans for a European satellite manufacturing champion. At the Paris Airshow, Macron also called for accelerated deployment of Starlink-type satellites as he declared space the new theatre for world power competition. "At the crossroads of aviation and space technologies, the VORTEX will undoubtedly pave the way for a new generation of space aeronautics, consolidating France's strategic position as a leading space power," said Eric Trappier in a statement.

Meta partners with sports eyewear brand Oakley to launch AI-powered glasses
Meta said on Friday it has teamed up with Oakley to release AI-powered smart glasses, expanding its push into wearable tech after the success of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The social media company is expanding its partnership with Oakley and Ray-Ban-parent EssilorLuxottica amid growing consumer interest in AI-powered wearable devices. Meta has sold millions of Ray-Ban Meta glasses since their launch and said its "Oakley Meta HSTN" will feature a hands-free high-resolution camera, open-ear speakers, water resistance and Meta AI capabilities. The limited-edition product will be available for preorder starting July 11 at $499, with additional products starting at $399 launching later this summer. Meta said the product line would roll out in North America, Australia and several European countries, with plans to expand to Mexico, India and the United Arab Emirates by the year-end. The Oakley Meta HSTN will debut this month at several major sporting events including Fanatics Fest and UFC International Fight Week. Smaller rival Snap said earlier this month it would launch its smart glasses, called Specs, for consumers next year. Companies such as Google are also exploring similar investments.
