2027 Motocross of Nations to be hosted in the Netherlands
The TT Circuit Assen in the Drenthe region of the Netherlands will host the 80th edition of the Motocross of Nations (MXoN), marking the 10th time the event has been held on Dutch soil, according to an announcement made by Infront Moto, the promoter of the international race. The first race of the iconic series was raced at Wassenaar in 1947, with Great Britain victorious.
'We are proud to bring the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations back to Assen in 2027,' said David Luongo, CEO of Infront Moto. 'The previous edition at this legendary venue left a lasting impression on fans and teams alike, and the Netherlands has always played a key role in the history of our sport.
'Hosting the 80th edition of this iconic event at such an iconic circuit is the perfect combination.'
Assen most recently hosted the MXoN when the home team of Jeffrey Herlings, Calvin Vlaanderen, and Glenn Coldenhoff won the event on a muddy track in 2019. The United States team finished sixth that year.
The circuit will be built on top of the tarmac of the circuit's final corners and pit lane complex, with the local area's sand being an integral part of the design.
'It's truly exciting to see the continued evolution and professionalization of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations,' said Antonio Alia, FIM / CMS Director. 'Returning to the Netherlands in 2027 brings back memories of an unforgettable edition in Assen, where, despite difficult weather, the organization, facilities, and teamwork demonstrated what's possible when everyone works together at the highest level. With the support of the KNMV [the local organizer] and the experienced team behind the 2019 success, we're confident that 2027 will not only meet expectations but help set new standards for the future of this great event.'

Liverpool agree deal for Bournemouth's Kerkez: reports
Liverpool have agreed to sign Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in a deal worth a reported £40 million ($54 million), according to reports on Friday. Kerkez is due to travel to Merseyside for a medical before completing his move to the Premier League champions. Advertisement The 21-year-old caught Liverpool's eye last season with his fine form for Bournemouth, including two goals and five assists in 38 Premier League appearances. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes brought Kerkez to Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar during his time at the Vitality Stadium. Serbia-born Kerkez began his career at Hungarian outfit Gyor before moving to AC Milan, where he failed to make an appearance for the Serie A club. He joined Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2022, arriving in the Premier League with Bournemouth a year later. Kerkez's impending arrival at Anfield raises questions about the future of Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson, who has been linked with Atletico Madrid. Advertisement Kerkez will become Liverpool's latest signing in a busy summer transfer window for boss Arne Slot. The Reds have already secured the signature of Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has joined Real Madrid. Liverpool are also on the verge of signing Leverkusen's Germany playmaker Florian Wirtz after reportedly agreeing a fee that could rise to a British record £116 million. Wirtz is believed to have undergone a medical with Liverpool on Friday ahead of the official confirmation of his transfer. smg/nr

Dutch soccer player Quincy Promes extradited from Dubai to face prison in cocaine smuggling case
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Dutch soccer player Quincy Promes was being extradited Friday from Dubai to the Netherlands, where he faces a prison sentence for involvement in cocaine smuggling, the prosecutor's office told The Associated Press. The Dutch public prosecution service confirmed to the AP that Promes was en route to the Netherlands, in Dutch custody. Advertisement Promes, who scored seven goals in 50 international matches for the Netherlands before legal issues derailed his international career, was convicted last year of complicity in cocaine smuggling and sentenced in his absence to six years in prison. Amsterdam District Court ruled that Promes was involved in the import and export of hundreds of kilograms (pounds) of cocaine in 2020. His lawyers told judges he denied the allegations. In 2023, Promes was found guilty of stabbing his cousin in the leg and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Both of Promes' convictions are currently under appeal. Promes, a 33-year-old former player for Ajax and Sevilla, had been playing for Spartak Moscow and living in Russia from 2021 until last year, when he was reportedly arrested in Dubai around the time that Spartak was there for friendly games. More recently, he had been playing with United FC, a second-tier club in Dubai. ___ AP soccer: Molly Quell, The Associated Press
