Anti-Maoist operations should not be politicised, must be conducted in transparent manner: Congress

Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday said that the ongoing security operations against Maoists should not be politicised and must be carried out in a transparent manner, PTI reported. Pilot, who is in charge of the party's Chhattisgarh unit, made the comment in the state while responding to recent remarks by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. On Sunday, the home minister had announced that the operations would continue throughout monsoon. Operations are usually suspended during the season as rainfall and floods hamper combat inside dense forests, The Hindu reported. On Monday, Pilot said that whatever action is taken against Maoists should be 'effective, transparent and should not have any political colour'. 'It is a matter of internal security,' the Rajasthan MLA added. 'Strict steps should be taken after a lot of deliberation,' he said. 'Action should be…accountable…should be done on the ground and not by giving speeches again and again.' The Union government has repeatedly vowed to end Maoism by March 31, 2026. According to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, more than 400 suspected Maoists were killed in the Bastar region in 2024-'25. The police have stated that 186 suspected Maoists have been killed in gunfights with security personnel in the Bastar range in 2025. In 2024, 217 suspected Maoists were killed by security forces across Chhattisgarh. Malini Subramaniam has reported for Scroll that while many of those killed in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region in 2024 were declared by the police to be reward-carrying Maoists, several families dispute the claim. The families claim that the persons killed were civilians.

House Owner Who Sheltered Sonam After Murder Now Suspected Of Hiding Evidence

Last Updated: James, during questioning, revealed that Tomar had asked him to remove Sonam's bag from the flat after Sonam surrendered. The house owner, Tomar, is currently missing. As the investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi continues, with his wife Sonam currently in judicial custody, the Meghalaya SIT team now suspects the involvement of the owner of the Indore flat where Sonam and her aides hid after the crime. Lokendra Tomar, the owner of an infrastructure company, is accused of taking a bag belonging to Sonam from a house in the Hirabagh area of Indore. According to a report by NDTV, the bag contained a country-made pistol, Sonam's mobile phone, jewellery belonging to Raja, and Rs 5 lakh in cash. Tomar's name surfaced during the interrogation of Silome James, a property dealer who had rented the Indore flat to the murder accused. James, during questioning, revealed that Tomar had asked him to remove Sonam's bag from the flat after Sonam surrendered. The house owner, Tomar, is currently missing, as per NDTV report. Earlier on Saturday, police arrested James and a security guard in connection with the case. James was booked for concealing a jewellery box hidden in the flat, which allegedly belonged to Sonam. East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem had earlier confirmed that James was the lessee of the building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore, where Sonam had stayed and stored valuables. The jewellery box, later burnt by James, is believed to hold key evidence linked to the murder, according to PTI sources. An SIT member revealed that Sonam's boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, had also kept a firearm, jewellery, and a laptop in the flat, which was rented by murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan. The flat was leased by James on May 30 for Rs 17,000 per month. A forensic team found no trace of the pistol, laptop, or jewellery at the site where the box was allegedly burned. Sonam stayed at the flat for several days after returning from Meghalaya, before surrendering to the police in Uttar Pradesh on June 8. First Published: June 23, 2025, 16:30 IST

Airtel's AI-Powered fraud detection system safeguards 3.1 million users in Odisha : Singh

Bhubaneswar, June 23 (UNI) As part of its nationwide rollout, Airtel's AI-powered fraud detection system has successfully protected over 3.1 million users in Odisha within just 40 days of its launch, R Balaji Singh, COO – Odisha, Bharti Airtel said here on Monday. The initiative, Singh said has made significant progress in safeguarding customers in the state from the growing menace of online fraud. He explained that the advanced fraud detection system, which is automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband users, scans and filters malicious links shared across SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, email, and various web browsers. Leveraging real-time threat intelligence, the system examines over 1 billion URLs daily and blocks access to harmful websites in less than 100 milliseconds. For example, if a Bhubaneswar resident receives a suspicious message like 'Your package is delayed. Track it here: and click on the link, Airtel's system immediately scans the URL. If it is flagged as suspicious, access is blocked, and the user is redirected to a warning message: 'Blocked! Airtel found this site dangerous!' This real-time interception helps prevent users from falling victim to various types of online fraud. Commenting on the initiative, Singh said, 'In an era where digital threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and widespread, the need for a secure and reliable mobile network is more critical than ever. "With this AI-powered solution, we are proud to be the first and only network to integrate fraud protection directly into our infrastructure.' He added, 'We believe this system offers a comprehensive defense against cyber threats, empowering our customers in Odisha to navigate the digital world with greater confidence.' Singh met Shefeen Ahamed K, IG, CID Crime Branch & State Cyber Crime Nodal Officer, to discuss joint efforts on enhancing cyber safety in Odisha. UNI DP BM
