Real story behind final Conjuring film as family 'shared home with four spirits'
The fourth and final instalment of horror movie The Conjuring is set to hit screens in September, and here's the spooky true story behind the tale...
It's good and bad news for The Conjuring fans, as it's been announced the fourth movie in the saga will be released this September, however, it's the fourth and final.
The Conjuring: Last Rites will feature yet another real life case, investigated by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
A first look trailer was released earlier this week for the final instalment of the film, which is inspired by the real life Smurl Haunting. The final movie is set in 1986, as the pair enter retirement. However, it's not much of a rest for the pair who find themselves brought out of retirement by Janet and Jack Smurl to investigate their house in West Pittston, Pennsylvania.
The real life story started in 1973 when the couple moved into a house with their two daughters. However, things stared to take a turn when strange things started happening. Initially, it was only small things such as tools going missing and reappearing.
However, things started to get worse when a light fixture fell from the ceiling, cutting their daughter Shannon Smurl on the head. Afterwards, things only started to get worse as the couple claimed to hear blood-curdling screams in their abode.
Their dog was also allegedly thrown against the wall, and their daughters pushed down the stairs. Janet also claimed to have been picked up by a presence, while Jack claimed that he was sexually assaulted by a presence.
Ed and Lorraine's website states that they "concluded that the Smurls shared their home with four spirits: a harmless elderly woman, a young and possibly violent girl, a man who suffered and died in the home, and a demon that used the other three spirits to destroy the Smurl family."
In the chilling trailer, which has racked up over 6 million views in the first 24 hours, fans get a glimpse of the creepy dolls, and even Lorraine is scared, as she can be heard shakily saying: "Ed.... something's changed. Something's different," as blood can be seen pouring all over the kitchen floor.
She can then be heard screaming as a voice says: "We've been waiting patiently for you..."
Fans are sad to see the saga come to an end, as one commented beneath the trailer: "Watching it in the theatres is the last thing I can do to bid farewell to this amazing series."
"Nothing lasts forever... but the impact that James Wan, Patrick Wilson, and Vera Farmiga had on the horror genre will live eternally," penned another, as a third wrote: "The final Conjuring. I never thought I'd see the day. What a franchise."

Casualty viewers concerned for fan-favourite as they plea 'look after yourself'
Casualty viewers were left heartbroken as Stevie Nash (played by Elinor Lawless) returned to the ED. In the latest edge-of-your-seat episode of Casualty, viewers witnessed Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) returning to the ED post-cancer treatment. Advised by medical professionals to extend her rest period, a determined Stevie was keen to dive back into work regardless. Yet, when faced with an influx of overdose cases due to tainted drugs, she quickly found herself overwhelmed. While newcomer Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) initially promised his support for her shift, he was promptly swept away by other crises in the department. Audiences took to social media expressing their concern, with many feeling it may have been too premature for Stevie's return. One viewer expressed sympathy, commenting: "Sorry, Stevie. I don't think you're ready at all #Casualty" Meanwhile, another observed: "Stevie being thrown into the deep end on Day 1 #Casualty." A sympathetic comment read: "Poor Stevie rushed off her feet on Day 1" Another fan advised: "Stevie you shouldn't be back so soon actually I'm glad you are but please look after yourself." Echoing this sentiment, one person said: "Stevie really hasn't been supported back to work at all #casualty" While another commented: "Poor Stevie. Much too soon to come back to work." Someone else stated: "My heart breaks for Stevie #casualty" as another offered: "Tonight's episode is stressful." As the episode progressed, we saw Stevie confronting Flynn about his absence during her tumultuous comeback shift, though he assured her he believed in her capabilities and kept a watchful eye on her the entire time, reports Wales Online. As the drama on the show unveiled, it emerged the duo had past connections from their youthful days. Despite hints of a longstanding camaraderie, when Flynn advances romantically towards her, she is visibly unimpressed and promptly puts him in his place. The actress shared her insights on the anticipated reappearance in the series and Stevie's reaction to Flynn's ill-timed kiss. Elinor divulged to What to Watch: "I know, it's like, 'dude, read the room and smell the chlorine!' "Stevie is very much, 'What are you doing? !' She has seen him do this [in the past] to other women but out of pride she never went there. "It's a moment where she takes charge and tells him to back off! It's been great working with Olly to find the key to our characters' friendship." Although Stevie firmly rebuffed Flynn in the moment, viewers are left wondering if this could signal the start of a blossoming romance.

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is back at work in tomorrow's episode of Casualty, but it soon becomes clear adapting after her cancer journey is going to be tough. She is supported by friend Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) as she gets settled back into life at the ED, but Stevie ends up breaking down after a difficult shift, admitting that she doesn't know who she is anymore. As the week continues, Flynn cheers Stevie up by going swimming with her. They race in the pool and it makes Stevie smile, but Flynn then royally puts his foot in it by trying to kiss his mate. On her first morning back in the ED, Stevie walks into chaos as overdose patients flood the department. Flynn welcomes Stevie back and they jump into the deep end together in Resus. The countless OD patients keep them so busy, Flynn has to leave Stevie on her own. When Flynn returns, he spots Stevie's hands trembling. As far as Stevie is concerned, she didn't fight cancer – she just survived it. Stevie admits that she's scared all of the time, and doesn't know who she is anymore. The next day, Stevie and Flynn find Dylan Keogh (William Beck) standing among the body bags of the patients from the last 24 hours. Stevie and Flynn spend the day together again and then enjoy a few hours of swimming. Stevie smiles while being with Flynn, due to the fact it's the first day she hasn't woken up with pain in her hands. They enjoy a genuine moment, but Flynn ruins it by trying to kiss Stevie. Sheeran's budgie smugglers sell at charity auction alongside custom guitar
Singer Ed Sheeran's red pants with butterflies on them fetched £55 while the custom painted Martin LX1E acoustic guitar brought in the highest bid, selling for £4,250 A charity auction featuring Ed Sheeran's personal items has raised £15,400 for St Elizabeth Hospice in Suffolk. The items, donated by Ed, included a custom-painted acoustic guitar that sold for £4,250, as well as a pair of colourful budgie smugglers with butterflies that fetched £55. Ed, the renowned singer-songwriter, contributed around 200 lots to the auction, which was hosted by Bishop & Miller. The items up for grabs included trainers, jackets, t-shirts, artwork, and even a dressing gown. Among the notable sales were a Batman Christmas jumper that went for £131, a Dolce & Gabbana hoodie that sold for £220, and a pair of Air Jordan trainers that brought in £165. The auction took place on June 15 at Bishop & Miller Auctioneers in Stowmarket, Suffolk. St Elizabeth Hospice's Clare Chater expressed her gratitude to Ed Sheeran, saying: "We are incredibly grateful to Ed for generously donating such a fantastic collection of items for the auction." Oliver Miller of Bishop & Miller Auctioneers added: "Once again Ed has been very generous to the hospice." While Ed's fame has had it's benefits, he recently opened up about the one thing he mourns about family life. In a recent appearance on Louis Theroux's podcast, Ed shared how the attention due to his fame has meant that he has struggled to do some of the most ordinary family activities. He told the documentary maker: "I'm very, very private about my children's image. And for me, I can't take them to zoos or parks or anything really without someone trying to film them. "And I don't want my kids' image out there on a stranger's phone or device." Adding that he made this decision to protect his children, he admitted that he "mourns" not being able to enjoy the simple luxury of spending time in public with them: "Those are the times — the normal parts of life — that I kind of mourn for, and sort of wish I could push my kid on a swing in a public park and it not be weird." Ed first met his wife, Cherry Seaborn, when they were at school in Suffolk but it wasn't until years later after getting back in touch that they got together. After their friendship was rekindled in 2015 thanks to a mutual friend, they soon started dating before eventually going on to tie the knot in 2019.
