After more than two decades of standing on NFL sidelines and telling the game's stories with grace, Laura Okmin has decided to take her final bow at FOX Sports. A seasoned voice in sports broadcasting, Okmin leaves behind a remarkable legacy after 23 impactful years with the network—making her the third-longest-tenured sideline reporter in NFL history.
Laura Okmin bids farewell to FOX Sports after 23 years
Laura Okmin's journey at FOX began in 2002, but her career had already been shaped by prior roles with CNN, TNT Sports, and SportsChannel in Chicago. Over the years, Okmin built a résumé that most sports journalists only dream of, having covered more than 20 Super Bowls, the Olympics, NBA Finals, World Series, and Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, what set her apart was not just the sheer volume of her experience—but the heart with which she reported each story.
In a heartfelt conversation with Front Office Sports, Okmin revealed that her departure wasn't a forced decision but rather an intentional one, guided by inner clarity. 'They sent me the contract. I printed it out. I sat there. It was just my voice saying, 'It's time; this is it,'' she shared. The moment she broke the news to FOX executive Jacob Ullman—who is also a longtime friend—was emotional. 'I'm happy to say he was very surprised.

I would have been very disappointed if there was any other reaction. It was a really nice call, because I got to have it with my boss and my friend.'
While she's walking away from FOX, she's far from done. Okmin will continue to lend her voice to NFL playoff games and the Super Bowl through Westwood One Radio. But what truly excites her now is the opportunity to grow her passion project—GALvanize, a platform she founded to uplift and mentor young women aspiring to break into the sports industry.
GALvanize isn't just a training program—it's a movement that stems from Okmin's own experiences in a male-dominated industry. Her mission is simple yet profound: to provide young women with something she never had—a support system. Through workshops, seminars, and boot camps, GALvanize aims to equip participants with confidence, storytelling skills, and above all, empowerment. 'Training and mentoring young women entering the sports world on – and more importantly – OFF camera,' is how her website captures the essence of the program.
Reflecting on her long career, Okmin was candid about the challenges of constantly proving her worth. 'Honestly, it's a tough job having to justify your job for 20 years... There's a wonderfulness that comes with it. But also a lot of other ----.' That honesty is what endeared her to so many fans and colleagues.
As FOX Sports sees a reshuffle in its sideline lineup—with Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson also expected to exit—Okmin's absence will certainly be felt. But in stepping away from the camera, she's stepping into a purpose that may impact the next generation even more profoundly.

Indian Hockey Players To Get A Monthly Stipend From Sports Ministry

Last Updated: Indian hockey players selected for national camps will receive a Rs 25,000 monthly allowance. The decision, costing Rs 20 lakh per month, was approved by the sports ministry. For the first time, Indian hockey players selected for the men's and women's national camps will receive a Rs 25,000 monthly out-of-pocket allowance, a decision sanctioned by the sports ministry after consistent requests from the sport's governing body. Eighty players (40 men and 40 women) are set to benefit from this allowance, which is extended to athletes in the developmental group of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. The decision was made during the Mission Olympic Cell's monthly meeting on Thursday. This allowance will cost the government Rs 20 lakh per month, while core group athletes receive Rs 50,000 per month. 'The allowance was being requested by Hockey India for some time, and we have decided to accept the demand. The players have performed reasonably well, and it is on merit," Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed reporters in an informal interaction. Hockey India will need to submit a list of players every month to facilitate the disbursement of funds. 'The list will consider form and fitness, and names might change depending on these factors," a sports ministry source explained. Currently, hockey players earn salaries from their respective departments and organisations, although a proposal for a graded contract system by Hockey India has been under consideration for the past few years. Their additional source of income comes from prize money for strong international performances in events like the Olympics and the Asian Games. The men's team has secured two consecutive bronze medals in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the subsequent Paris Games last year. The women's team finished fourth in Tokyo but did not qualify for the Paris event. Both teams are currently competing in the FIH Pro League's European leg, where the results have not been particularly encouraging so far. The MOC also approved financial proposals amounting to Rs 4.28 crore during the meeting. A significant portion of the funds — Rs 1.38 crore — will be allocated to tennis players such as Saketh Myneni, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, and three women players. 'Several proposals for assistance from para-athletes were also approved. Additionally, a few additions were made to the TOPS developmental group. The core group remains unchanged for now," a Sports Authority of India (SAI) official stated. The ministry has also decided to enhance its talent identification process with an app that will allow talented youngsters to upload their performances for evaluation by regional talent identification panels of the SAI. 'If found promising at first glance, the youngster will be invited to Khelo India Regional Centres where their potential will be assessed. This will broaden our talent identification mechanism, which is currently limited to age group competitions," Mandaviya said. 'It will ensure that we can reach the remotest corners of the country to find promising athletes. This is all part of the National Sports Repository System," he added. With PTI inputs.

But there is one other topic worth discussing—his hair. Yes, since entering the NFL in 2020, Joe Burrow has certainly changed the game as well as his hairstyle a number of times. And some of them? Totally unexpected. From classic cuts to bleached looks, Joe Burrow has given fans something new almost every year. But what were the wildest ones? Let's go back and look at every hairstyle Joe Burrow has rocked with the Cincinnati Bengals—some may surprise you. Joe Burrow's hair transformations since 2020 from classic cut to bleach blonde Joe Burrow was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals as the No. 1 overall pick in April 2020 and had a fresh classic haircut. This is the same haircut he sported while winning a national title at LSU in January 2020. After this clean look, fans were able to see Joe Burrow until the end of the 2021 season, including Joe Burrow opting for this classic look in Super Bowl LVI (February 2022) in Los Angeles. Then came a small change—Joe Burrow kept the same cut but grew it out a bit. By the 2023 offseason, fans noticed longer, shaggier hair. That summer, Burrow posted an Instagram Story wearing a headband and called himself 'The Dark Knight', comparing himself to Batman. But the wildest change came in July 2024, just before training camp. Joe Burrow showed up with a fully bleached buzz cut. He looked like rapper Eminem, and people couldn't stop talking about it. Joe Burrow said, 'Me and B.J. [Hill] decided to do it together, so here we are.' Joe Burrow's 2024 frosted tips haircut had fans talking after a bad start By September 2024, when the regular season began, Joe Burrow had moved on from the Eminem look. He showed up with frosted tips, giving major 90s boy band vibes. But after the Cincinnati Bengals lost their first three games, fans blamed the hair. On X (Twitter), one user joked, 'Joe needs to cut those tips—bad luck.' Soon after, he went back to his normal look. So now fans are left wondering—what will Joe Burrow try next? Why drafting Josh Allen too early in Fantasy Football 2025 could hurt overall value

Josh Allen's fantasy value demands a closer look (Image via: Getty Images) The 2025 NFL season is approaching fast, and fantasy football drafts are already underway. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is fresh off an MVP season and continues to be a hot name on draft boards. But while Allen's real-world talent is unquestioned, fantasy experts caution managers not to reach for him too early this year. Josh Allen is an elite QB but is he a must-draft in Round 2? There's no denying Josh Allen's value on the field. He's a dual-threat quarterback with elite arm strength, red-zone efficiency, and the ability to turn broken plays into big gains. In real football, he's a dream. But in fantasy football, numbers tell a different story and experts say it's time to hit the brakes. According to Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport, there's reason to pause before making Allen an early fantasy selection. Despite Allen's MVP campaign, he didn't even reach 4,000 passing yards in 2024—the first time since 2019. His fantasy value was salvaged by over 500 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, allowing him to finish fourth among quarterbacks in fantasy scoring. Currently, Allen is being drafted in the middle of Round 2 in many 2025 fantasy drafts. That's a critical zone typically dominated by elite running backs or wide receivers—positions that lack the depth found at quarterback. Using such high draft capital on a quarterback, even one as dynamic as Allen, often means missing out on game-changing talent at more scarce positions. Fantasy football success hinges on value and depth. While Allen is capable of putting up monster weeks, quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, or a fully healthy Joe Burrow offer similar upside at a significantly lower draft cost. Waiting for one of those options allows for a stronger overall roster and minimizes risk if a player underperforms or misses time. Also Read: Brittany Mahomes drops fiery reaction to Patrick Mahomes' offseason move with KC Current The fantasy football landscape continues to evolve, but one rule stays constant—championships are won with smart decisions, not flashy names. Josh Allen remains one of the NFL's most thrilling and consistent quarterbacks, but the fantasy game requires careful calculation. Drafting him too early could result in an unbalanced roster and missed chances at long-term success. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here
