25-kg weed, diamonds worth ₹1.6 crore seized from smugglers at CSMI Airport

Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) on Wednesday seized 24.96 kilograms of hydroponic weed and arrested three persons from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The substance was allegedly being smuggled into India from Thailand. In a separate case, the AIU seized Saudi Riyals and diamonds totalling ₹1.71 crore from a passenger departing to Dubai and arrested him. The four arrested are in judicial custody.
The AIU, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a couple arriving from Bangkok and seized 24.96 kilograms of hydroponic weed worth ₹24.66 crore from their luggage. The couple revealed the identity of a dealer who was waiting outside the airport to collect the consignment. Subsequently, the dealer was arrested. During interrogation, he revealed that he was a resident of Bhayender and that he was merely working on instructions. The three accused, booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, are remanded in judicial custody. The accused are allegedly a part of an international drug trafficking syndicate. The police said they are investigating the case.
In the second case, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted a passenger departing for Dubai on Tuesday and seized 50,000 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to ₹11.14 lakh, 406.90 grams of lab-grown diamonds worth ₹47.22 lakh, and 245.3 grams of natural diamonds worth ₹1.24 crore. The seized material is worth a total of ₹1.71 crore. Subsequently, the passenger was arrested.

New Delhi: In a significant action against terrorism and anti-national elements, Handwara Police under Police District Handwara today attached immovable properties belonging to two individuals from Monbal, Handwara, who stand accused in a long-pending terrorism case. The attachment has been executed in connection with FIR No. 198/2003 registered at Police Station Handwara under stringent provisions of law including Sections 13 & 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Sections 2/3 & 3/4 of the Explosives Substances Act, and Sections 120B, 121A, 302, 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). The property attachment has been carried out in accordance with a court order dated 20-06-2025, under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which empowers authorities to attach the properties of proclaimed offenders. The accused individuals whose properties have been attached are: 1. Mohd Shafi Bara, son of Sawariya Bara, resident of Monbal, Handwara. 2. Gh. Mustafa, son of Alif Ud Din, resident of Monbal, Handwara. Both individuals had exfiltrated to Pakistan and have since been actively involved in promoting terrorism, coordinating terror-related activities from across the border, and orchestrating multiple terror incidents in the region. Handwara Police remains committed to taking strict and sustained action against individuals and groups involved in anti-national and terrorist activities. Further legal proceedings in the matter are underway.

The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights ( WBCPCR ) has issued a show-cause notice to BJP leader Amit Malviya for allegedly revealing the identity of a minor girl whose body was recovered from her residence in Canning, South 24 Parganas district, an official said. Malviya, who is the in-charge of BJP's national information and technology wing and co-in-charge of the party's West Bengal unit, had recently posted on his X handle that the girl was "gangraped and murdered." "The WBCPCR has taken suo motu cognisance of the post by Malviya wherein the identity of a deceased minor girl was disclosed, thereby violating Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of the Children) Act, 2015. The Commission has issued a show-cause notice to Shri Amit Malviya in this matter and asked for a reply within three days," WBCPCR chairperson Tulika Das wrote.
