Only 8 pc GCCs advanced significantly across innovation, mkt advantage, efficiency: BCG report

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Only 8 per cent of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) have advanced significantly across the three dimensions key to enterprise value — innovation, competitive differentiation and operational efficiency, a new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said.
India, the US, and Mexico emerged as the most balanced GCC ecosystems, with India uniquely combining scale, innovation, and efficiency, it said.
The report called for a step-change in how organisations structure, invest in, and activate their GCCs, not just as support engines, but as core drivers of innovation, AI adoption, and business outcomes.
While GCCs are evolving rapidly in scope and ambition, the majority remain focused on delivery execution, under-utilising their potential to act as capability hubs powering enterprise-wide transformation.
"A new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), 'Rewriting the Global Capability Center Playbook: Scaling Maturity with AI', finds that only 8 per cent of GCCs have advanced significantly across the three dimensions most critical to enterprise value — innovation, competitive differentiation, and operational efficiency," it said.
The report found that tech, media, and telecom firms lead in maturity, driven by higher investment in AI initiatives and depth of innovation
It underlined AI, advanced AI use cases, including GenAI, and AI agents, as critical accelerator of GCC maturity.
While top performers have moved beyond pilots to embed AI across core workflows, most GCCs remain trapped in early-stage experimentation, it said.
"GCCs which treat AI as a bolt-on will never close the gap," Rajiv Gupta, Managing Director and Senior Partner at BCG, said.
The frontrunners have strategically embedded AI into their operating models, at a scale which makes a material difference at the enterprise level. The leaders are not experimenting, they are delivering meaningful outcomes.
Over 90 per cent of top-performing GCCs implement advanced AI use cases versus about 50 per cent of others.
"The risk for others is falling into an autopilot mode," Gupta added.

The company is also exploring opportunities in satellite communications, with its chipsets poised to support evolving requirements as India's satellite and IoT ecosystem grows. As per Counterpoint Research, as of April 2025, MediaTek led India's smartphone chipset market with a 45 per cent share, followed by Qualcomm at 32 per cent. The company established its first R&D centre in India in 2004 and now employs over 1,000 engineers across its Bengaluru and Noida offices. The Taiwanese firm on Friday launched the MediaTek Dimensity 8450, a 5G smartphone chip with eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores and an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU. Jain outlined MediaTek's commitment to further investment in the Indian market and continued expansion of its engineering teams. The company views its Indian R&D centres as extensions of its global operations, enabling it to address multiple technology verticals from within the country. "In the near future, we'll have the number of engineers keep increasing with time because we are coming up with new innovations and the talent pool in India, the engineering strength in India is very, very good for us," he said.

Govt forms committee to submit proposals for e-buses

Vijayawada: State govt has formed a state level steering committee (SLSC) for the submission of proposals to the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) for the procurement of electric buses under the 'PM e-Bus Sewa' scheme. The Centre sanctioned 750 electric buses to Andhra Pradesh under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme. Chief secretary K Vijaynand issued a govt order RT No 310 to this effect, forming the SLBC on Thursday. According to the GO, the SLBC will be headed by the chief secretary as the chairman, with the special chief secretary (energy), principal secretaries of transport, roads and buildings, finance, municipal administration and urban development, and industries & commerce departments, along with the commissioner of the public transport department as the committee members. The ministry of housing & urban affairs (MoHUA) sanctioned 750 e-buses to AP to be operated in 12 locations across 11 cities. Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt Ltd, Pune, along with the discovered GCC prices, is finalised as the agency for the induction of 750 e-buses in the state. The requisition for the procurement of the e-buses should be submitted to MoHUA under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme through the SLSC under the chairmanship of the chief secretary, the GO read.

Ahmedabad plane crash: DGCA asks Air India for details of inspections, audits since 2024, says report

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought flight operations inspectors to provide details of all inspections and audits conducted for Air India since 2024, sources said on Saturday. The details on the findings of the inspections and audits will have to be submitted by Sunday, they said, news agency PTI reported. The DGCA has sought these details for 2024 and 2025 (to date), in an email communication which came a day after the aviation safety regulator issued a show-cause notice to the airline for flight duty time limitations (FDTL) violations, the report citing sources said. The DGCA had also ordered removal of the airline's three senior officials from their respective roles for certain lapses. The data has been sought on planned and unplanned inspections, audit, cockpit/enroute, station facility, ramp and cabin inspection among others, as per the communication, the PTI report added. The directives come after an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, killing over 270 people onboard and on the ground. The DGCA ordered Tata Group-owned Air India to remove three senior officials for lapses in crew scheduling and rostering and issued a show-cause notice to the airline for violating FDTL norms, sources said on Saturday. In its order of June 20, the DGCA noted that the three officials, including a divisional vice-president, were involved in "serious and repeated lapses, including unauthorised and non-compliant crew pairings, violation of mandatory licensing and recency norms and systemic failures in scheduling protocol and oversight". The DGCA directed the airline to initiate proceedings against these three officials without delay, the PTI report said. Air India in a statement said it has acknowledged the regulator's directive and implemented the order. "In the interim, the company's chief operations officer will provide direct oversight to the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC). "Air India is committed to ensuring that there is total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices," the airline said in a statement. ARMS (Air Route Management System) is the software platform used by the airline for various operational and management tasks, including crew rostering and flight planning, among others. A total of 247 victims of the horrific June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash have been identified through DNA tests so far and 232 bodies have been handed over to their families, officials said on Saturday. The authorities have asked the families of eight victims to submit the DNA samples of another relative as the previous ones failed to match, they said. According to the report, police said the matching of DNA samples confirmed that Ahmedabad-based filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala, who was reported missing following the crash, died in the catastrophe. His mortal remains were handed over to his family. Authorities are carrying out DNA tests to establish the identity of the victims as many bodies were charred beyond recognition as the aircraft burst into flames or damaged on impact.
